    1400073 Electrostatic printing CANON K K 4 July 1972 [8 July 1971] 31258/72 Heading G2H In an electro-photographic copying apparatus employing liquid development the developing electrode is in the form of a readily removable arc-shaped member 36 which is located below the drum of the apparatus being spaced therefrom at a predetermined distance by rollers disposed at opposite ends of the electrode. The member 36 may be swung into and out of its operative position by cords and pulley wheels, Fig.6, and is fed 'with developer through a slot 170 from a tank, 34 Fig.5, by a pump 194 discharging to pipes 195 2 , 196, 208 and 197. The pipe 208 is transparent and the quality of the developer being applied is controlled by photo-electric cell apparatus associated therewith. A blade cleaner 42 is used to wipe off the toner and developing liquid remaining on the photo-sensitive drum 17 after image transfer. In order to clean the blade edge portion 42, prior to use developer is pumped via pipes 195 2 , 198 and 200 to a discharge outlet 70 to wash the blade edge and thereby remove accumulated dried-out toner material. The operation of the developer apparatus is automatic the necessary float valves and micro-switches being provided for this purpose. The developer container 34 is readily removable.

    The pump drum and the pumping system for supplying the developing fluid into the gap between the developing electrode and the photosensitive drum have a spring-loaded support for accommodating the developing electrode, the developing electrode being spring-loaded relative to the support and having rollers mounted on the lateral edges of the electrode perpendicular to the axis of the photosensitive drum and interacting with the surface of the latter.
    FIG. 1 shows a developing device, a cross section; in fig. 2 is a device for maintaining an even gap.

    SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A liquid developing device comprising a developing liquid reservoir, an arcuate developing electrode mounted with a gap relative to the photosensitive drum and a pumping system for supplying the developing liquid to the gap between the developing electrode and the photosensitive drum, characterized in that, in order to improve quality manifestations, it has a spring-loaded support for accommodating the developing electrode, and the developing electrode is spring-loaded with respect to the support and has rollers, nye electrode on the side edges perpendicular to the axis of the photosensitive drum and interacting with the surface of the latter.
