1468739 Making wheel rims; stamping; foundry moulds GEORG FISCHER AG 9 Oct 1974 [16 Oct 1973] 43833/74 Headings B3A B3F and B3Q A method of making an annular rim member for use in a wheel to receive a pneumatic tyre, comprises forming a mould cavity with a radial dimension oversize and/or undersize over an annular portion of the rim periphery, casting an iron-carbon melt into the cavity to form the rim member, removing the member from the cavity, and working the member radially to bring it to the required dimensions by means of plastic deformation. The melt may be of cast iron or cast steel and the former is treated prior to pouring to form a ductile casting whereas a cast steel member is heat treated after solidification to have the necessary ductility. The rim member is cast in a said mould, which preferably includes a hollow annular core (3), an annular pouring basin (5) and feeding duets (7), Fig. 2 (not shown). The core (3) bridges the mould portion (4) and defines the radially outer surface 19 of the rim, Fig. 6, which is shown by chain lines in the as-cast condition and is I-10% oversize. The as-cast rim 10<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 7 is moved step-by-step between shaping operations on previously cast rims along rails 30 of a press until it rests on cross-bars 32 on lifting rods 31, which raise the rim into an open ring of die segments 40 mounted on a movable ring 39. The die segments are raised by the ring and as the ring moves upwardly they are driven inwardly by sloping surfaces 37 in a guide ring 36 to form the ring 10 to its finished dimensions. The die segments are then lowered, thereby opening them and the finished rim is lowered on to the rails 30. Alternatively an undersized rim may be expanded or the rim may be formed with undersized and oversized portions which are expanded and compressed to the required dimensions respectively.

(5A) SPOS05 MANUFACTURING A WHOLE WHEELED CAR RIM
The invention relates to the manufacture of automobile wheels with pneumatic tires, in particular, with tubeless tires, and can be used in the manufacture of a wheel rim or part of it.
Methods are known for manufacturing a one-piece car wheel rim, including filling the mold with alloy 1 and L21.
In the manufacture of the rim by known methods, mechanical treatment of its working surface is necessary. This leads to unequal wall thickness around the rim, and the rim's stiffness, which causes its unevenness and deflection under load.
The purpose of the invention is to improve the quality of the wheel rim.
The goal is achieved by filling the casting mold with a ductile iron-carbon alloy; the wheel rim is formed with the plane of the connector outside its outer surface with a diameter dimension deviating
from nominal by 1.5-2Z in the direction of its decrease and / or increase, and the resulting wheel rim is calibrated to nominal sizes by means of radial plastic cold deformation.
At the same time, the casting mold is filled with cast iron treated with nodular graphite or steel. ,
In addition, the wheel rim is molded in a mold with a closed ring of a closed rod.
FIG. 1 shows a scheme for implementing the method, the preferred option; in fig. 2 is a vertical section along the axis of the wheel rim through a mold for a wheel rim with a wheel bowl; in fig. 3 rio is a half of a disc wheel cast in a mold according to FIG. 2; in fig. Ц - cast wheel rim with a support ring or support board; in fig. 5 shows section A-A in FIG. 3; in fig. 6 is a section BB in FIG. ; in fig. 7-3 - device for radial deformation of a cast wheel rim
25 in three consecutive phases; in fig. 10 is a mold for a portion of an annular wheel rim with a support ring, vertical section; in fig. 11 - part of the annular wheel rim, section. The method according to a preferred embodiment is characterized by the use of a previously prepared cast iron melt treated with nodular graphite. Block A marks the process of making the mold. Preferably, conventional molds are used, for example, sandy and milled sands. Hbiei The cast iron melt used for casting is pretreated in the usual way according to block B, for example, magnesium treatment for crystallization of the block B during crystallization can be selected mainly as nodular graphite and could form in the cca structure cast. In the course of solidification, no castings are performed in the usual foundry operations. According to block G, the plastic deformation is of particular importance, and the cast rims are calibrated by means of radial crimping, or rolling. Operation G ends the basic process of shaping the wheel rim or part of the wheel rim. The treatment of the connecting flange on the wheel bowl and the drilling of the holes for assembly or the final processing of the supporting flanks or flanges remain. A variation of the method is characterized by the choice of material, with steel melt being used instead of a cast iron melt. In this case, pretreatment of the melt disappears - block B. However, as a matter of fact, the solidified castings must be subjected to heat treatment to transfer the primary structure to fine granulated matter (an enisive secondary structure having the viscosity necessary for subsequent cold plastic deformation. The method of this variant is Stages A, B and D are the same with the preferred option. The sand mold contains the lower part 1, the upper part 2 and the predominantly hollow inner core 3 affixed to the section The upper part 90 4 2 has a feeder 5, which passes to the gating system 6. A cavity 7 with a feeder 8 is made in the form. In this case, it is a sandy form for a solid disc wheel with an annular wheel rim 9 and a wheel bowl 10, in which recesses 11 are formed, and a recess 13 is drilled on the flange 12 adjacent to the wheel bowl 10. The holes for the assembly on the flange 12 are drilled out. In the same way, the shape of the annular wheel rim according to FIG. 4 and 6, in which the part of the rim is identical with the parts of the rim according to FIG. 3 and 5, however, there are several support beads 15 for the assembly. Instead of them, a through support ring 16 may be provided, as shown by dotted lines in FIG. 4 and 6. When forming the wheel rims 9, it is necessary that the outer surface 17 of FIG. 2, 5, 6 was made in the form of a solid ring-shaped surface in order to prevent the formation of gulfs located in the transverse direction (barbs and seams). This is ensured by fitting a one-piece, closed internal rod 3. At the same time, defects can be formed on the edges 18 of the wheel rim 9, outside the substrate for a motor vehicle, and circumferential gulfs are easily removed, for example by cutting. The wheel rim 9 during subsequent plastic deformation can also be performed with Adial allowance with regard to the usual shrinkage during solidification and the allowance for processing .In order to clarify this allowance in Figures 5 and 6, the contours of the wheel rim 9 in the solidified state are shown in dotted lines, and the contours of the finished wheel rim 9, radially plastically deposited, shown in solid lines with a corresponding radius (casting position) and R (final size). This allowance can be made on the edge 13 of the wheel rim 9 in a larger size than at its base 19, where the wheel rim 9 passes into the wheel bowl 10, supporting board 15 and and a support ring 16. The allowance should be selected so that when cold working the yield strength of the material would be exceeded. At the same time, n, -iyCK on the edge 18 of the wheel rim 9 should be approximately from 1 to 10, preferably 1.5 to 2%. For example, with a nominal diameter of 571.5 mm, the difference in diameters on the edge 18 of the wheel arch 9 is 10 mm, and at the base is 6 mm. Similar values are also required when using steel. The cold deformation of the wheel bushing molded in the manner described above is explained in FIG. As an example, disc wheels are provided in accordance with FIGS. 3 and 5, however, this equipment can be used for wheel rims in accordance with FIG. and 6. At the same time, it refers to 1 that the rims gradually move one after the other along the solid rail 20 of the processing line. In the section of the forming device between the rails 20, lifting rods 21 are installed, which are raised and lowered by a pneumatic drive or by other means. The rods 21 have horizontal traverses 22 at the upper end, which are lowered into the gaps 23 of the rail 20, and therefore the upper edges of the traverse 22 are connected to the upper edge of the rail 20. At the base 2C, the massive guide wheel 2b is supported by the columns 25, having on its inner side several flat oblique guide planes 27. The stamping segments 28 are located on the lower end of the ring 29, which, in turn, is located on the punches of several hydraulic lifting units 30. In the lower position of the ring 29 and segments 28 (Fig. 7), segments 28 and At the open position of the segments 2B, the rim of the workpiece is lifted by means of lifting rods 21. Then the ring 29 by means of hydraulic lifting units 30 and at the same time the rim of the workpiece is lifted further by means of lifting trousers 21. Segments 28 slide along The upper planes 27 are up and close radially to the rim of the workpiece, Fig. 8 shows their position in which the segments 28 lie directly to the edges of the wheel rim. Since the radial allowance of the cast wheel rim at the base of the rim 19 is less than at its edges 18 (Figs. 5 and 6), the position according to Figs. 8 there is still a certain distance between the base 19 of the wheel rim and the corresponding part of the segments 28. As a result of further movement, the ring 29 and the segments 28 are pressed into position according to fig. 9, whereby the rim of the cold through plastic cold deformation is radially crimped to the finishing size and calibrated. After the wheel rim has received the final profile, by means of the lifting unit 30, the ring 29 with the segments 28 is lowered to the position according to. 7. At the same time, the machined workpiece is lowered onto the rails by means of rods 21. Another embodiment example, which refers to a part of the annular rim, is explained in FIG. 10 and 11. Closed, part of the wheel rim according to FIG. 11, having a horn 31 and a circumscribing support ring 32 with a bottom surface, is assembled with a second ring horn 33 after mounting. The tire rim assembled in this way is designed to be mounted on the hub, 3 wheels by means of clamping parts 35. The casting mold consists of the bottom part 36 and the upper part 37, which are adjacent to each other on the butt plane 38 and close the cavity 39. The feeder 40, the sprue system 41 and the upper feeder k2 are connected to the cavity 39 of the form. Unlike the previously described integral wheel rim of FIG. 3-6) a part of the wheel rim can be formed without an annular inner rod 3. The butt plane 38 of the mold according to FIG. 10 is also chosen in such a way that the outer plane 43 of the wheel rim portion that faces the tire side is formed as an integral annular surface. FIG. 11, the casting profile is shown by a dashed line, and the finished profile of a part of the wheel rim is shown by a solid line. Here it can be seen that the part of the wheel rim cross-section encompassing the horn 31 is made with a radial allowance. To select the value of this allowance (radius difference taking into account the viscosity of the casting material, the same provisions apply as in the previous example. For molding and technical reasons, it is advisable to mold another part C1 of the cross section (left, Fig. 11) with a radial dimension.
