A contact system for production of sulphuric acid of a high yield, especially of pyrite or roaster gases by means of the contact method in a system of single- or double-stage conversion consists of a number of separate contact units, each of them including one layer of a catalyst and a heat exchanger. A layer of a catalyst is in the form of a vertical cylinder, and in the space enclosed by the said layer a heat exchanger is situated. A contact apparatus is provided with a helical guide of the gas supplied onto a layer of the catalyst.

(54) CONTACT APPARATUS

This invention relates to contact apparatus used in installations for the oxidation of sulfuric anhydride to sulfuric anhydride.
Contact machines for oxidizing sulfur dioxide (SOrt) are known in the art and contain one or several layers of catalyst in a housing and are equipped with heat exchangers for intermediate heat removal or heating of the source gas.
Heat exchangers can be installed both inside the casing and inside the casing, which depends, in particular, on the design of the device and the volume of production J1 J.
Also known contact devices containing in the case of a vertical annular section with a catalyst, 0 inside of which is a heat exchanger 2.
A disadvantage of the known apparatus is the increased consumption of high-alloy steels and not enough 25
good source gas distribution over the catalyst bed.
The purpose of the invention is to intensify heat transfer and reduce the weight of the apparatus.
The goal is achieved by the fact that in the apparatus with an annular catalyst section and a heat exchanger located inside it, a partition is placed between the catalyst layer and the heat exchanger, forming a flue from the catalyst bed to the heat exchanger tubes, and inside the heat exchanger there is a partition in the form of a cylindrical displacer separating the top and downstream channels for inlet and outlet of the cooling gas.

With this, an improvement in the distribution of the initial gases over the catalyst bed is achieved by the fact that the inlet device for gases is located on the body tangentially to the catalyst section and is implemented in the form of a spiral guide device located along the entire perimeter of the body of the contact device. The apparatus consists of a housing 1, which contains a vertical annular section with a catalyst 2 and an annular tubular heat exchanger 3. A partition 4 is placed between the catalyst layer and the heat exchanger 4, forming a flue 5 from the catalyst layer to the heat exchanger tubes 6 3. Inside the heat exchanger a cylindrical propellant separating the top and bottom channels for insertion 8 and a cooling gas outlet. An input device for source gases, made in the form of a spiral guide vane 10, is installed on the body of the apparatus. The apparatus operates as follows. The initial Lases are fed to the spiral guide device 10 (the direction is shown by an arrow) and is distributed around the perimeter of the catalyst annular layer. After contacting the gas with a high content of SOg, it passes through the duct 5 into the tubes of the heat exchanger 3 and is removed from the apparatus through a 1.1 rod. The cooling gas is fed through fitting 12 into the annular space of the heat exchanger formed by partitions 4 and 7. The direction of passage of cooling is defined by partition 7, separated by inlet and outlet channels 54 8 and 9. The cooling gas is removed by fitting 13. Invention 1.
