    1530307 Television SONY CORP 2 July 1976 [21 July 1975] 27725/76 Heading H4F Video tape recording and reproducing apparatus for use with composite colour or monochrome video signals, comprises, in addition to rotary magnetic heads 8A, 8B, Fig. 1, for recording video information on tape 9, a fixed magnetic head 36 which is supplied with a mode signal representing whether the recorded video signal is a colour or a monochrome signal. The recording part of the apparatus includes a burst signal level detector 14. A circuit 20 connected to head 36, which consists of a tracking head, supplies a signal representing tracking information and the mode signal to said head. In the reproducing part of the apparatus, the mode signal is reproduced and used to control a colour killer 47, Fig. 2.
