1527624 Building material J Z VERTH 22 Oct 1975 [5 Nov 1974] 43427/75 Heading C3N A building material in the form of a panel or strand is formed from a mixture comprising finely divided calcined magnesite, a wood filler consisting predominantly of wood chips, inactive diatomaceous earth, and an aqueous solution of magnesium chloride, characterized in that (a) the weight ratio of magnesium oxide to wool filler in said panel or strand is 1 ; 2.96- 1 : 4; (b) the weight ratio of magnesium oxide to magnesium chloride (calculated as anhydrous magnesium chloride) in said mixture is 3 : 1- 4 : 1; (c) the weight ratio of magnesium chloride (calculated as anhydrous magnesium chloride) to wood filler in said mixture is 1 : 9-1 : 12 and (d) the content of inactive diatomaceous earth in said mixture is 2-15% by weight of the wood filler. The mixture may also include an alkali metal silicate, talc, rock filler, or magnesium sulphate. The wood filler particles may have a length of 20 mm. at most. The particles may be oriented essentially parallel to a plane which is normal to the direction of the extrusion of the article and also normal to the plane of the major surfaces of the panel or strand. Alternatively, the wood filler particles are oriented essentially parallel to the plane of the major surfaces of the panel or strand. In one embodiment the building material is composed of a plurality of layers; the outer layers containing a more finely divided wood filler and having a weight ratio of magnesium oxide to mgnesium chloride of 2À8 : 1-3À2 : 1 and the inner layers containing a less finely divided wood filler and having a weight ratio of magnesium oxide to magnesium chloride of 3À8 : 1-4À2 : 1.
