1531376 Imitation liver pet food GENERAL FOODS CORP 3 March 1977 [9 March 1976] 09076/77 Heading A2B Liver-like pet foods are made by heating an aqueous emulsion of fat, blood and reducing sugar to solidify and texture it. The product may be a dry, intermediate or moist pet food. The set product may be ground, re-slurried and again heat-set to a desired shape, or may be ground and optionally mixed with fat for use as a coating on pet food. The emulsion may contain 30-60% water and may be heated at 5-25 psig for 10 mins.-2 hrs; a proteinaceous or non- proteinaceous emulsifier may be included. The product may comprise 25-95 wt. % fat, e.g. poultry fat, tallow, lard or butter oil, 3-15 wt. % blood, at least 2 wt. % sugar, e.g. glucose, fructose, ribose, xylose, galactose or maltose, and may optionally include yeast extract, humectant and preservative.

This invention relates to the production of an artificial food product such as liver.
A known method of preparing a food product involves heating a mixture of protein material carbohydrate and fat in the presence of water 1.

The aim of the invention is to impart odor and structure to the liver.
This is achieved by the fact that blood and a reducing sugar are used for pumping protein and carbohydrate, respectively, and the mixture is heated in an autoclave for 10-120 minutes at a vapor pressure of 0.35-17.5 kg / cm, and taken in the next co-bearing, weight. %: blood 3-15, reducing sugar 3-10, fat 25-90, water 30-60.
