Valve rotation occurs during the opening movement of the valve, due to the action of balls 12, each of which is retained in a recess 11 formed in a plate 10. The recesses have inclined bottom surfaces and each ball is spring-loaded towards one end of its recess. Downward pressure on the balls causes rotation of plate 10 and with it, the valve stem.
