This invention relates to the chemical and pharmaceutical industry and relates to hard gelatin capsules. The purpose of the invention is to increase the strength of capsules containing hygroscopic or air-sprayed compounds. This goal is achieved by introducing into the shell of a hard gelatin capsule a hydrophilic, fibrous compound that swells when water is absorbed — the sodium salt of carboxymethylcellulose. This compound is present in gelatin along with other common ingredients and additives, such as, for example, coloring agents, preservatives, and the like. The fibrous compound is present in powder form and the length of the fibers lies in the range of about 50-300 microns. An example of such a compound is Croscarmellose / USNF / crosslinked form of sodium carboxymethylcellulose, available from, for example, FMC under the trade name AcD: Sol for use as a disintegrant and dissolving agent. This is a fibrous material consisting of fibers with a length of 50-300 µm and having the following properties: a) it swells upon contact with water and c) holds absorbed water. Capsules according to this invention can be prepared by the usual techniques used in the art, a predetermined amount of fibrous compound is added to gelatin before, during and after dissolving the gelatin, for example, in the form of an aqueous suspension, and the molten gelatin bath is stirred until a second is obtained. Capsules made from gelatin containing 1% Croscarmellose do not crack, and those made from gelatin containing 2% Croscarmellose show only weak cracking under these extreme conditions compared to standard capsules, which all become brittle and break down over a time between 10 minutes and 2 hours.

Claims (1) [1] The advantage of the proposed composition of the shell is that protection against cracking of the membranes is provided with smaller amounts of the addition of a hydrophilic compound and no plasticizers are required.
