Apparatus for forming and controlling high-velocity air curtains in a room such as an auto-body painting booth, which room is also provided with ventilating air flowing inwardly through perforations in a ceiling in response to pressure developed by a fan in a chamber above the ceiling. Rather than using a permanent custom-designed arrangement of nozzles separately supplied with pressurized air through special ducts to form the air curtains, the curtains are formed and controlled by air guiding means located on the room side of the ceiling and open to the ceiling perforations, so configured that the flow through the perforations is converted to one or more air curtains of desired velocity and direction. Quick-disconnect fastening means insertable into the perforations through a flange on the air guiding means enables installation, removal or shifting of theair guiding means, as desired for different purposes. The air guiding means may be a duct of generally rectangular cross section open on one side to the ceiling perforations, with restricted openings on another side serving as nozzles, and adjustable plates may be provided in the duct to permit adjustment of air-current flow.

The invention relates to ventilation and can be used for ventilation of booths for painting products as well as for creating air curtains in separate zones of various industrial halls and workshops.

The flow regulator is designed as a plate 9 mounted opposite the perforated openings with the possibility of movement. The plates 9 are hinged on the screen 6 and are equipped with a screw drive 10. The plates 9 are installed in screens 6 parallel to the perforation panel 2. -

The air flow under the action of the fan 5 is injected into the high pressure cavity 6, the air flow through the perforated panel 2 evenly flows into the room, and through the guide screens 6 with the increased speed it ends with separate streams in the form of an air curtain, dividing the room 1 into several oases. With the help of making the exhaust nozzles 7 with the possibility of changing the angle of inclination, as well as with the help of plates 6 installed with the possibility of movement, both the direction of flow of air flowing out of the screens and the change of air flow are changed.
Moving the guide screens 6 along the surface of the perforated panel 2 and fixing them in a predetermined position with quick-release fastening means 8 provides for changing the area of the ventilated zones of the room 1.
