BOX-LIKE PACKAGING FOR CONTAINING AND TRANSPORTING CUT FLOWERS
The present invention relates to the field of packaging, and in particular relates to a box-like packaging or sheet material, such as specific, but not exhaustively, corrugated cardboard for containing and transporting cut flowers.
As is known, the field of packaging in general, and packaging in particular, has the most varied solutions aiming to obtain, with simplicity to manufacture and use, advantages in terms of the secure containment and transport of the product.
With regard to boxes for cut flowers, especially those with long stems such as roses or gerbera daisies, they are currently made in two separate elements such as a container and a cover, which is fitted on the container to close the box. Each of the two elements is assembled starting from a flat blank by means of gluing or stapling. The use of glue or stapling firstly implies a difficulty for the operator who is to assemble the box and secondly, represents a critical element because if the assembly is not properly performed, during the transport the box may be open and therefore the contents deteriorate.
Again, considering the cover is simply fitted on the container, it is not unusual for the box to open, especially with transport and stacking.
It is therefore the object of the present invention to resolve the above-described problems by providing a box-like packaging which allows the secure containment of cut flowers and at the same time is affordable and easy to make.
According to the present invention, such an object is achieved by a flat blank and by the box-like packaging formed according to the first and eighth of the appended claims.
The invention now will be disclosed with the description below or with an explanation, made by way or with a non-limiting example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
- figure 1 shows a flat blank or sheet of material, such as preferably, but not exhaustively, corrugated cardboard;
- figure 2 is a perspective view of a step or bending the blank in figure 1 to obtain a box-like packaging;
- figure 3 shows a perspective view of a box-like packaging obtained by successive bends starting from the blank in figure 1; and
- figure 4 is an enlargement of figure 3, in which there are interlocking means or a cover with a container or the box-like packaging.
A box-like packaging is obtained from a flat blank or sheet of material, such as preferably, but not exhaustively, corrugated cardboard, by successive bends, as shown in the drawings; the substantially rectangular blank extends along a development axis X and comprises a first portion or main portion 1 and a second portion or secondary portion 2, the major sides of which are parallel to the axis X. The second portion 2 projects from a major side of the first in a bendable manner, that is a continuous bending line A is defined on such a major side. As will be apparent below, the main portion 1 defines a container element or the box-like packaging, while the secondary portion 2 defines a cover. The cover is therefore integral with the container element and foldable thereover in order to obtain the closing of the box along the continuous bending line A.
With regard in detail to the main portion, it comprises three rectangular-shaped major flaps with a main development according to the axis X, which are mutually continuous and bendable between horizontal inner bending lines B. The inner bending lines B are made from a segmented stretch, that's from a crenellated profile, with alternating straight stretches notched with a cutting substantially C-shaped protrusions crenellation, which therefore obtains the alternation of cuts and protrusions, allows the easier bending of the line.
Returning to the flaps, they comprise a bottom flap 10 which once the packaging is assembled, defines a bottom thereof. Located at the sides of the bottom flap 10 are a first and a second side flap 11a, lib which once the packaging
B 'from protrude.
which
Such line
B '' is mounted, define the sides of the container. Such side flaps have holes 3, preferably at the same distance, to allow the correct aeration or the cut flowers once they are contained in the packaging. The continuous bending line A is identified between the first side flap 11a and the secondary portion 2.
The main portion 1 then comprises a further flap 12 which extends from the major free edge of the second side flap lib, in a contiguous and bendable manner with respect thereto, along a further horizontal bending line C. Also, such further horizontal bending line has a crenellated profile alternating with protrusions C '' and straight cutting lines C '' in a similar manner as the inner bending lines B; moreover, at least one Cl of the protrusions protrudes more with respect to the others and is adapted to define, once the packaging is assembled, first interlocking means between the container element and cover. In the example shown in the drawings, such interlocking means include two protrusions Cl that protrude more.
The main portion 1 is completed by six minor flaps which extend three by side from the major flaps in a bendable manner along vertical bending lines D, that is perpendicular to the main development axis X. The flaps are separated by cutting lines H parallel to the axis X and placed continuously with the inner bending lines B. Again, the flaps define, by bending, minor side walls of the box-like packaging.
In detail, with reference to only three flaps, considering that the others are symmetrical, there is identified a central flap 13 which projects from the minor edge of the bottom flap 10, on which there is identified the bending line D, and two side flaps 14a and 14b which project respectively from the minor edges or each side flap 11a, lib.
There is obtained, on the bending line between bottom flap 10 and central flap 13, a notch Dl in which there are interlocking means projecting from the cutting lines H and supported by the side flaps 14a, 14b. In detail, such interlocking means include protrusions 140 which extend from the cutting lines towards the central flap. Therefore, by bending the side flaps over the central one, the protrusions are inserted into the notch DI, thus sturdily blocking the assembly.
With regard now to the secondary portion 2, it comprises a main flap 20, which is bendable along the bending line A. The main flap has similar sizes to the bottom flap 10 because once the packaging is obtained and the cover is fitted in position on the container, such two flaps are opposite and parallel.
Flaps 22 bendably extend from the short sides or the main flap 20; the bendable flaps are foldable over the main flap along respective bending lines E on which notches 22b are obtained.
Each flap also provides an inner bending line G parallel to the bending line E, the flap is divided by the inner bending line G into two portions which are foldable over each other.
Protrusions 22a for the insertion into the cuts 22b extend from the opposite side with respect to the bending line E. This interlocking allows the stable assembly or the sides of the cover. Again, a minor flap 21 bendable along a bending line F extends from the long side of the main flap 20. There is obtained on such a bending line, or the crenellated type such as the one described above, at least one cut Fl which defines second interlocking means once the packaging is assembled. Such cut is in such position and has such adequate sizes so as to engage at least one protrusion Cl described above. Such constant engagement allows the sturdy locking or the cover on the container. In the example shown in the drawings, there are two cuts Fl, as there are protrusions Cl.
There are extending, from the minor edges of the minor flap, flaps 23 which, engaging with the bendable flaps 22, define the perimeter sides of the cover.
With regard to the box-like packaging, this therefore comprises a container element 100 and a cover of 200, which are mutually connected along the bending line A that defines a first major upper edge of the container, the rotation of the cover with respect to such bending line obtains the fitting on the container; moreover the container element comprises, on a second major upper edge C of the container, first engagement means Cl which engage with the respective second engagement means Fl or the cover to obtain the sturdy connection between the latter and the container.
As already mentioned, the container element comprises a bottom 110 and two sides 110 defined respectively by the bottom flap 10 and by the side flaps 11a, lib. The engagement means Cl include protrusions which project from the side of the side sides to the connection edge with the cover, in arrangement substantially parallel to the bottom 110 of the box-like container.
The engagement means Fl instead of materialize with notches obtained on a free edge of the cover materialized by the bending line F of the blank described above; the commitment between the above-mentioned protrusions and the notches available the sturdy connection or the cover on the container.
The box-like packaging according to the invention has several advantages.
The various flaps are all mutually locked by interlocking. Neither glue nor stapler staples are used for forming the box; therefore, making the box is decidedly easier and faster with respect to known boxes.
Again, also the connection between cover and container is obtained by bending the first over the second and then the sturdy locking is improved by the above notches. Therefore, the closing of the box is quick and easy.
The box according to the invention also obtains the results of being affordably advantageous in terms of manufacturing because it is obtained from a single flat sheet of cardboard; material processing wastes are highly contained.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment described above, rather includes any further variant.
