FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to a door provided with lock and latch holes, as well as with a shield which covers these lock and latch holes and is provided with an outer circumference, a view side and a rear side with which the shield is arranged against the door, which shield and door are provided with mounting holes into which or through which protruding means protrude through which the shield is secured to the door. A shield of such a door is often traded in a set of two shields, a shield for one side (inside) of a door and the other shield for the other side (outside) of the door. Through the through holes there are patent bolts (an internal threaded cylinder with a protruding head at the end and an external threaded pin turned therein with also a protruding head at the end) which pull the shields against the door.
State of the art
Such a door is generally known. With wooden doors, the door constantly expands and shrinks slightly due to weather influences. Particularly if the door is provided with through-going fixing holes through which fixing means protrude, this results in slight play between the door and the shields as a result of which the shields are no longer tight against the door and can shift slightly and even more annoyingly start rattling when opening and closing from the door.
In addition, a soft type of wood is often used for wooden (external) doors that is made sustainable by means of chemicals and therefore has the properties of hardwood. Wood naturally contains organic acids. The amount may differ per type of wood. These organic acids are the main cause for the corrosion of metal fasteners in wood.
Tests have shown that non-precious metals and galvanized metals that have direct or indirect contact with woods that contain acid will corrode in humid conditions. That is why it is strongly recommended, where possible, to use stainless steel or anodized aluminum. When stainless steel or anodized aluminum is not possible, the metal parts and / or the wood are provided with a suitable coating to prevent direct contact between wood and metal. Corrosion problems with indirect contact can arise in, for example, non-ventilated rooms where condensation is possible, such as in lock cases. At each installation, pit corrosion or galvanic corrosion must be prevented by using matching hanging, closing or fixing materials.
The chemically impregnated wood is very aggressive towards other materials. The fasteners (screws and cams) are thereby excessively affected. This is partly activated because the moisture (including rain) can crawl through to the rear of the outer shield and cause a chemical reaction between the acid wood and the fasteners (the cams and / or the screw connections).
Summary of the invention
It is an object of the invention to provide a shield of the type described in the preamble, wherein the problems occurring with the known shield do not occur, or at least to a lesser extent. To this end, the shield according to the invention is characterized in that at least one elastic seal is provided between the fixing holes and / or fixing means and the outer circumference of the rear side of the shield, which seal is elastically thickened upon attachment of the shield to the door and forms a seal between the fixing holes and / or fixing means and the environment. By providing an elastic seal between the door and the shield, expansion of the door is absorbed by elastic compression of the seal and shrinkage of the door is absorbed by expansion (returning to its original shape) of the seal.
Furthermore, a corrosion between the door and the shield and around the fastening means prevents the corrosion effect. An additional advantage of the seal is a better friction between the shield and the door and as a result of which the shield is less likely to become loose on the door and through the friction it will remain better to "stick" on the door and thus prevent rattling and movement destruction. .
It is noted that from DE9406584U a closure for a door is known which is provided with sealing rings between the outer shield and the door. However, this door is not made of wood and the seal has a different function (seal between holes in the door and the shield to close off space behind the door from the outside world) than that of the door according to the invention. Furthermore, no patent bolts are present in this known constaction. Because of this and because this door is not made of wood, the problem described above for which the invention offers a solution does not arise.
An embodiment of the shield according to the invention is characterized in that the seal forms a closed circuit around one or more of the fixing holes and / or fixing means.
A further embodiment of the shield according to the invention is characterized in that more seals are present and around each of the mounting holes and / or mounting means one of the seals is present which forms a closed circuit around the mounting hole or mounting means.
The seal is preferably formed by a groove in the rear of the shield and an elastic sealing ring present therein with a thickness greater than the depth of the groove.

Figures 1 and 2 show an embodiment of the shield according to the invention for covering oversized lock and rivet holes in a door in perspective view as seen on the rear side and in longitudinal section, respectively. The shield 1 is provided with a view side 3 and a rear side 5 with which the shield is mounted against a door and furthermore provided with lock and rivet holes 7 and 9 fixing holes and / or fixing lugs 11 for fixing the shield against a door. Seals 12 are present around the mounting cams 11 between these mounting cams and the circumference 6 of the rear side 5 of the shield. The seals 12 are formed by grooves 13 with sealing rings 15 therein. The diameter of the sealing rings cross-section is greater than the depth of the grooves so that the sealing rings protrude above the groove.
The seals shown here may also be present in a counter shield (which is provided with through holes instead of the mounting lugs).
Although in the foregoing the invention has been elucidated with reference to the drawings, it should be noted that the invention is by no means limited to the embodiment shown in the drawings.
