    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
    The invention relates to a holder for a paint applicator of a paint brush or paint roller comprising two hingedly connected holder parts which, when closed, form a chamber and a passage through which a handle of the paint brush or a bracket of the paint roller can protrude, each holder part forming a wall part of the chamber and a further wall part of the passage.
    A paint applicator is to be understood here to mean a roll of a paint roller or a bundle of fibers of a paint brush held together. The fibers of a paintbrush are held together by a can open on one side. A handle is attached to the closed side of this canister. The roller of the paint roller is rotatable on a curved bracket with a plastic handle.
    State of the art
    Such a holder is known from US 2014/014542 A. In the known holder, one seal has a flat flat shape and the other has a curved U-shape. In the closed position of the holder in the absence of a brush in the holder, the passage is open. Only if the holder is arranged around a brush with the handle of the brush protruding through the opening, the opening is sealed.
    Summary of the invention
    An object of the invention is to provide a holder of the type described in the preamble with which paint applicators are better protected against drying of the application element. To this end, the container according to the invention is characterized in that the seals are present against each other and close the passage airtight. As a result, no air can enter the room from outside with a closed container, so that the paint container is not dried out.
    Because the holder is also closed off by the seals in the unused condition (ie no paint brush or paint roller in the holder), it is ensured that even in the presence of the smallest brushes and smallest paint rollers (with a bracket with a diameter of, for example, 6 mm) the chamber in the holder is closed. In addition, sealing the chamber in unused condition has the advantage that paint that has dripped into the chamber hardens less quickly and therefore the container remains easy to clean.
    A favorable embodiment of the container according to the invention is characterized in that the plastic foam is a light foam with a specific weight of between 50 and 150 kg / m. This material has a favorable elasticity to both completely close off the passage if no stem or bracket protrudes through the passage and to be able to spring in sufficiently in the presence of a stem or bracket.
    A further embodiment of the container according to the invention is characterized in that the seals are made of plastic foam with a closed cell structure. These closed cells ensure that less paint draws into the foam, so that the seals will also have less tendency to harden, which is good for reusability. Furthermore, the closed cells provide a more airtight seal than traditional open foams.
    A favorable embodiment of the container according to the invention is characterized in that each further wall part has the shape of a semi-circular cylinder, and each seal has the shape of a semi-circular disc, which seals are in contact with the curved sides with the facing one another inner sides of the further wall parts and with the straight sides are in contact with each other.
    The seals are preferably glued with the curved sides on the inner sides of the further wall parts.
    A further favorable embodiment of the holder according to the invention is characterized in that the inner sides of the further wall parts facing each other are provided with two spaced apart annular ridges between which the seals are enclosed. As a result, the seals are effectively fixed in the passage axially in the passage and they cannot slide when pressed into each other and thus cannot unintentionally leave the passage.

    The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to an exemplary embodiment of the holder according to the invention shown in the drawings. It shows:

    Detailed description of the drawings
    In the figures, an embodiment of the holder according to the invention is shown in various views. The holder 1 consists of two holder parts 5 and 7 connected to each other via a flexible hinge 3, which parts are locked together when closed, because a flexible hook 6 hooks onto one of the holder parts behind a projecting edge 8 on the other holder part. In the closed condition of the holder, the holder parts 5 and 7 are airtightly connected to each other and form a chamber 9 provided with a passage 11. If the fibers of a paint brush or the roller of a paint holder are present in the chamber, the handle of the stick out the paint brush or the bracket of the paint roller through the passage.
    Each holder part 5, 7 has a wall part 13 that forms half of the chamber wall and a further wall part 15 that forms half of the wall of the passage. A seal 17, 19 of resilient plastic foam is provided against each further wall part of the passage. These seals 17 and 19 are present against each other in the holder in the absence of a paintbrush or roller and close the passage 11 airtight.
    The seals 17 and 19 (with broken lines shown in the figures) are formed by two half moons of a light foam (+/- 90 kg / m3), which consists of closed cells. The half moons are fully supported on the round side 21 by the inside 23 of the further wall part, and are kept in place next to glue by two spaced apart upright ridges 25 on the inside 23.
    The seals 17 and 19 are in the closed position of the container and in the absence of a paintbrush or roller with the straight sides 27 in contact with each other and seal the space within the container from the outside world. When the container is closed with a paint brush or paint roller in it, the seals 17 and 19 will be pressed in and mold to the shape of the paint brush or bracket of the paint roller and thereby close the chamber 9.
    Although in the foregoing the invention has been elucidated with reference to the drawings, it should be noted that the invention is by no means limited to the embodiment shown in the drawings. The invention also extends to all embodiments deviating from the embodiment shown in the drawings within the scope defined by the claims.

    A holder (1) for a paint applicator of a paint brush or paint roller comprising two hingedly connected holder parts (5, 7) which are air-tightly connected to each other in closed state and form a chamber (9) provided with a passage (11) via which can insert a handle of the paint brush or a bracket of the paint roller, wherein each holder part forms a wall part (13) of the chamber and a further wall part (15) of the passage, and wherein against each further wall part of the passage a seal (17, 19) of resilient plastic foam is present, characterized in that the seals (17, 19) are present against each other and seal the passage (11) airtightly.
