Device for fixing a table top
The present invention relates to a device for fixing a table top, of the type comprising:
- a structure for fixing to the side wall,
- a support structure for the table top, defining a support surface extending in a substantially horizontal plane, the support structure comprising:
- at least one cross member extending in a transverse direction,
- at least two longitudinal members each extending between a junction end to said cross member and an end for fixing to said fixing structure in a longitudinal direction substantially orthogonal to the transverse direction, said cross member being connected to each of said longitudinal members.
Devices of the aforementioned type are known. Such a device is used in particular to fix a table top to a side wall of a railway vehicle. A table top thus fixed provides a relatively stable horizontal surface, and can then be used by passengers as a support, especially for books, computers or food.
Such a device is not entirely satisfactory. Indeed, when an unforeseen event occurs which requires an abrupt deceleration of the vehicle, passengers are sometimes not prepared for it, and can collide with the table tops. At worst, strong collisions between passengers and table tops can occur and cause serious injury to passengers.
An object of the invention is to provide a table fixing device and a table which do not have these drawbacks, in particular which limit the risk of injury to passengers in the event of a collision.
To this end, the subject of the invention is a device of the aforementioned type, in which the support structure comprises folding initiation zones configured to deform plastically when a force greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold force is applied to said support structure in the transverse direction, the folding initiation zones authorizing a pivoting of each of said longitudinal members relative to said crosspiece around a pivot axis orthogonal to said transverse and longitudinal directions when an effort greater than or equal to said predetermined threshold effort is applied to said support structure in the transverse direction.
In particular embodiments of the invention, the device also has one or more of the following characteristics, taken in isolation or according to any technically possible combination (s):
- the folding initiation zones comprise two first folding initiation zones, each formed in the vicinity of a junction end between a respective spar and said cross member, and two second folding initiation zones, said first and second folding initiation zones defining a substantially rectangular profile in the absence of force exerted on said support structure, each second folding initiation zone being formed on a respective spar.

A subject of the invention is also a table for a vehicle, said table comprising a fixing device according to the invention and a table top, the table top resting on the support surface, an initial clearance occurring between the angle iron and the table in the absence of force exerted on said support structure, said clearance being able to decrease substantially to zero after the plastic deformation of at least one folding initiation zone, the width of the initial clearance advantageously being between 10 and 20 millimeters.
The table may also include a member for fixing the cross member to the lower surface of the table top, the fixing element being situated substantially at the center of the width of the table top, the fixing element being of the square type.

The table 10 is typically mounted on a side wall 12 of a rail vehicle. The table 10 comprises a substantially horizontal plate 14, a fixing device 16, and a fixing element 18.
The table top 14 extends longitudinally between a first end edge 20 facing the side wall 12, and a second end edge 22 opposite the first end edge 20.
The second end edge 22 is for example facing a corridor of a railway vehicle.
In what follows, we will designate by "longitudinal (e)" a direction or a plane intended to extend, in use, orthogonally to the side wall of the railway vehicle, and by "transverse (e) a direction or a plane intended to extend, in use, parallel to the side wall of the railway vehicle and in a horizontal plane.
The plate 14 also has a lower surface 24 intended to be in contact with the upper face of the fixing device 16 and with the upper surface of the fixing element 18, and an upper surface 26 opposite the lower surface 24, suitable for bear objects.
The fixing device 16 comprises a support structure 28 of the plate 14, a fixing structure 30 to the side wall 12, and a lateral angle iron 32 facing the first end 20 of the plate 14.
Advantageously, the fixing device 16 consists of a single piece. It consists for example of a cut and folded sheet.
The support structure 28 defines a support surface, extending in a substantially horizontal plane, in use. Advantageously, the support surface extends in a plane parallel to the lower surface 24 of the plate 14.
The table top 14 rests on the support surface.
The support structure 28 and the fixing structure 30 are advantageously made of metallic material, for example steel or aluminum. In one configuration, the support structure 28 and the fixing structure 30 are made of the same material. In another configuration, they are made of different materials.
The support structure 28 comprises at least one cross member 34 extending in a transverse direction.
The support structure 28 further comprises at least two longitudinal members 36 extending in a longitudinal direction.
The support structure 28 also comprises folding initiation zones 38.
The cross member 34 is connected to each of the side members 36.
In particular, the two longitudinal members 36 each extend longitudinally between a junction end 40 to the cross member 34 and an attachment end 42 to the attachment structure 30.
Thus, the cross member 34 is connected to the junction end 40 of each of the side members 36.
The folding initiation zones 38 are configured to deform plastically when a force greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold force is applied to the support structure 28 in the transverse direction. Advantageously, the folding initiation zones 38 allow pivoting of each of the longitudinal members 36 relative to the cross-member 34 around a pivot axis A - A 'respective orthogonal to the transverse and longitudinal directions when a force greater than or equal to said force predetermined threshold force is applied to the support structure 28 in the transverse direction.
Advantageously, the folding initiation zones 38 comprise two first folding initiation zones 38a, and two second folding initiation zones 38b.
The first folding initiation zones 38a are each formed in the vicinity of the junction end 40 between a respective beam 36 and the cross member 34.
The second folding initiation zones 38b are formed on a respective spar 36.
As illustrated in FIG. 3, the first and second folding initiation zones 38a, b define a substantially rectangular profile in the absence of force exerted on the support structure 28.
Each beam 36 comprises a movable portion 44 and a fixed portion 46.
The movable portion 44 extends from the second folding initiation zone 38b to the junction end 40. The fixed portion 46 extends from the second folding initiation zone 38b to the end mounting 42.
The second folding initiation zones 38b allow the movable portion 44 of each of the side members 36 to pivot relative to the fixed portion 46 about a respective pivot axis A - A 'orthogonal to the transverse and longitudinal directions when a force greater than or equal to said predetermined threshold force is applied to the support structure 28 in the transverse direction.
After the plastic deformation of the folding initiation zones 38, the first and second folding zones 38a, b define a profile in the form of a parallelogram (not a rectangle). Thus, the support structure 28 has substantially a shape of parallelogram in a horizontal plane. The fixing structure 30 comprises two uprights 48 each extending substantially orthogonally to the spar 36 from the fixing end 42 of the spar 36.
The uprights 48 are intended to be fixed to the side wall 12 of the vehicle.
Each upright 48 comprises a transverse wall 50 for fixing to the side wall 12 of the vehicle, and a longitudinal wall 52 extending in the longitudinal direction of the transverse wall 50 to the fixing end 42 of a beam 36.
In a variant, each second folding initiation zone 38b is provided on a respective upright 48. Advantageously, each second folding initiation zone 38b is provided in the vicinity of a connection zone 54 between the transverse wall 50 and the longitudinal wall 52 of the respective upright 48.
The material of the folding initiation zones 38 is weakened in order to allow their plastic deformations when a force greater than or equal to the predetermined threshold force is applied to the support structure 28 in the transverse direction, without causing the plastic deformation of the others. parts.
In one configuration, at least one of the folding initiation zones 38 is formed by a thinned zone of the cross member 34 and / or of the spar 36. The thinned zone has a thickness less than an average thickness of the cross member 34 and the spars 36, for example 25% to 75% lower.
In another configuration, at least one of the folding initiation zones 38 is an area of the cross member 34 and / or of the side member 36 having recesses. These recesses have for example a circular shape.
The side angle 32 is intended to be fixed to the side wall 12 opposite the first end 20 of an edge of the table top 14.
During the plastic deformation of at least one folding initiation zone 38, the table top 14 is guided in circular translation in the side angle 32.
A clearance 56 occurs between the angle iron 32 and the table top 14.
In the absence of force exerted on the support structure 28, the clearance 56 has an initial width. Advantageously, the initial width is between 10 and 20 millimeters.
After the plastic deformation of at least one folding initiation zone 38, the width of the clearance 56 decreases substantially to zero. When the table plate 14 comes into lateral contact with the bottom of the angle iron 32, the plate 14 can no longer advance, which makes it possible to control the maximum movement of the table 10 so as not to injure the passengers seated on the seats. opposite the direction of movement of the plate 14.
The fixing element 18 is intended to fix the cross-member 34 to the lower surface 24 of the table top. Advantageously, the fixing element 18 is located substantially at the center of the width of the table top 14.
The fixing element 18 is for example of the angle type.
Thanks to the invention described above, passengers housed in a vehicle are better protected. In particular during collisions between a passenger and a table top due to accidents, the plastic deformation of such a fixing device makes it possible to absorb part of the impact energy, which reduces the energy returned to the passenger and which could avoid serious passenger injury.
