The invention relates to a headrest for a motor vehicle seat.
It is known to produce a headrest for a motor vehicle seat, said headrest comprising:
• two parallel rods connecting to the seat intended to be mounted at the top of the back of said seat, • a casing made of molded plastic material for absorbing energy in the event of an impact by the head of a passenger on said headrest, said case comprising two conduits for receiving said sliding rods, said case having a bearing face intended to be filled by a cushion, • two sets of bearings each comprising a high bearing and a low bearing, each of said sets being mounted in a conduit respective by fitting said bearings into high and low housings provided in said housing, said housings being arranged so as to allow transverse movement of said bearings on either side of a nominal position, said bearings being provided with an orifice sliding reception of the corresponding rod, • a device for locking said casing with respect to said rods in a plurality vertical positions, so as to allow a height adjustment of said housing.
With known arrangements, the low bearings are generally inserted in low housings which are open downwards, this for reasons of facilitating their mounting.
It follows that, in the event of a violent impact from the head of the passenger on the housing, there is a risk of extraction of the bottom bearings of their housings, with the consequence that said housing is no longer correctly associated with the rods, which constitutes a risk for said passenger.
The object of the invention is to overcome this drawback.
To this end, the invention provides a headrest for a motor vehicle seat, said headrest comprising:
• two parallel rods connecting to the seat intended to be mounted at the top of the back of said seat, • a casing made of molded plastic material for absorbing energy in the event of an impact by the head of a passenger on said headrest, said housing comprising two conduits for receiving said sliding rods, said housing having a bearing face intended to be filled by a cushion, • two sets of bearings each comprising a high bearing and a low bearing, each of said games being mounted in a conduit respective by fitting said bearings into high and low housings provided in said housing, said housings being arranged so as to allow transverse movement of said bearings on either side of a nominal position, said bearings being provided with an orifice sliding reception of the corresponding rod, • a device for locking said housing relative to said rods in a plural ity of vertical positions, so as to allow an adjustment in height of said housing, the front face of said low bearings being in contact with the free end of ribs projecting towards the rear, said ribs being produced by molding of said housing, said ribs having a thickness arranged to allow them to deform plastically in the event of a violent shock applied by the head of said passenger on said bearing face and to release an additional space for insertion of said low bearings in said housing so as to prevent their extraction.
In this description, the terms of positioning in space (top, bottom, longitudinal, transverse, lateral, horizontal, front, rear, vertical, ...) are taken with reference to a headrest mounted in the vehicle.
With the proposed arrangement, in the event of a violent impact from the passenger's head on the housing, the ribs are plastically deformed to release the additional space mentioned above in which the low bearings are inserted so as to prevent their extraction, this which makes it possible to secure the association between the housing and the rods, with the positive consequences which result therefrom for the passenger in terms of safety.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear in the following description, made with reference to the attached figures, in which:
• Figure 1 is a schematic partial perspective view of an appuitête according to one embodiment, • Figures 2a and 2b are schematic views in horizontal section of the headrest of Figure 1 made at the level of the low bearings before impact violent head of a passenger on the housing (Figure 2a) and after said impact (Figure 2b), • Figure 3 is an enlarged detail of Figure 2a.
With reference to the figures, a headrest 1 of a motor vehicle seat is described, said headrest comprising:
• two parallel rods 2 connecting to the seat intended to be mounted at the top of the back of said seat, • a casing 3 made of molded plastic material - in particular high density polyethylene - for absorbing energy in the event of a head impact a passenger on said headrest, said housing comprising two conduits 4 for receiving said sliding rods, said housing having a support face 5 intended to be furnished with a cushion, • two sets of bearings each comprising a high bearing 6 and a low bearing 7, each of said sets being mounted in a respective duct by fitting said bearings into high 8 and low 9 housings provided in said housing, said housings being arranged so as to allow transverse movement of said bearings on either side from a nominal position, said bearings being provided with an orifice 10 for sliding reception of the corresponding rod 2, • a worm device rusting of said housing relative to said rods in a plurality of vertical positions, so as to allow height adjustment of said housing, the front face 11 of said bottom bearings being in contact with the free end of ribs 12 projecting rearward, said ribs being obtained from molding of said housing, said ribs having a thickness arranged to allow them to deform plastically - in particular by penetration of said bearings in said ribs - in the event of a violent impact applied by the head of said passenger on said bearing face and freeing an additional space 13 for inserting said bottom bearings in said housing so as to prevent their extraction.
According to the embodiment shown, the ribs 12 are in the general form of flat strips.
According to the embodiment shown, the ribs 12 extend parallel to a vertical longitudinal plane.
According to one embodiment, the ribs 12 have a thickness of less than 1.5 mm, so that they can deform in the event of an impact in order to free up the additional space 13.
According to one embodiment, the ribs 12 project at least 5 mm, in particular approximately 7 mm, so as to allow the release of an additional space 13 of sufficient volume to prevent the extraction of the bottom bearings 7 from the housing 3 .
According to the embodiment shown, the ribs 12 are two in number per bottom housing 9, the ends of said ribs being positioned laterally on either side of the front face 11 of the corresponding bottom bearing 7.
According to the embodiment shown, the bearings 6,7 are made of molded plastic material - in particular polyoxymethylene - and are provided with elastic side tabs 14 formed by molding, said tabs bearing on the side walls of the housings 8,9 so as to allow a transverse centering of said bearings in said housings.
Such an arrangement allows a suitable positioning of the bearings 6,7 with respect to the rods 2 whatever the transverse dimensional variations of the case 3 linked to the temperature variations.
According to an embodiment not shown in the figures, at least one of the rods 2 is provided with locking notches, the locking device comprising at least one locking projection mounted movably relative to the housing 3 between a locking position, where said projection is inserted into one of said notches, and an unlocking position, where said projection is withdrawn from said notch in order to release the sliding of the corresponding rod,
In particular, the two rods 2 can be provided with locking notches, the locking device comprising a cross member mounted in transverse sliding in the housing 3, said cross member comprising two locking projections, said cross member being provided on one of its ends. a push button 15 enabling it to be actuated from a locking position, where said projections each insert into a corresponding notch of rod 2, towards an unlocking position, where said projections withdraw from said notches, the headrest 1 being further provided with a return spring from said crosspiece to its locking position.
According to one embodiment, the locking notches are in the form of notches opening out towards the front, which allows an accentuated locking in the event of an impact of the head of a passenger on the housing 3.
