(54) ASSEMBLY FOR FIXING A TRIM ELEMENT.
FR 3 058 964 - A1 (5j) The assembly for fixing a trim element (2) to a structural element (3) of a vehicle between which an airbag (27) is interposed, which may have a folded standby position, a deployed protective position and a deflated post deployment position, the fixing assembly comprising primary fixing means making it possible to retain the packing element (2) against the structural element (3) the airbag (27) being in the standby position and secondary fixing means making it possible to retain the packing element (2) when the airbag (27) being in the protective position further comprises return means from the packing element (2) to the structural element (3) when the airbag (27) is in the post-deployment position.
i
The invention relates to an assembly for fixing a trim element to a structural element of a vehicle during deployment of an airbag interposed between the trim elements and bodywork.
The invention also relates to a vehicle equipped with this assembly. Airbags are used in particular in the automotive field to protect the occupants of a vehicle during an accident.
An airbag, or airbag, is a flexible fabric envelope into which gas is injected by an explosive chemical reaction, to protect an occupant of a vehicle.
The airbags are arranged in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, in the steering wheel, in the dashboard, in the roof pillars, etc. Since the airbags are technical safety devices, they are hidden by elements generally plastic trim.
Upon detection of an accident by the vehicle, the trim element, which may include rupture lines, is pushed aside by the airbag to allow the airbag to deploy.
The trim element is retained on the vehicle structure to avoid injuring an occupant. EP 2 514 639 discloses, for example, an assembly for retaining a lining element during deployment of an airbag.
In the case of a curtain type side airbag, the airbag is interposed between a structural element of the vehicle forming a body side and a trim element of the vehicle mounted on this structural element.
When a collision is detected, the cushion inflates by injecting gas into it. In some cases, the cushion deploys and places a heavy stress on the lining element which will deform and may detach from the structural element in the passenger compartment. In order that the trim element or fragments thereof does not constitute a projectile which could injure one of the occupants of the vehicle, it is necessary to retain the trim element to the structural element while allowing deployment the airbag.
However, in the general approach of improving the safety of the occupants of a vehicle, there is an increase in the volume of the airbags which can go up to 150/200 liters.
The increased capacity of the airbags subjects the packing elements that hide the airbags to very high stresses.
In this technical context, an object of the invention is to improve the retention of a lining element during the deployment of an airbag and in particular of an airbag of large volume which produces a large deployment stroke.
The invention relates to an assembly for attaching a trim element to a structural element of a vehicle between which an airbag is interposed, which may have a folded waiting position, a deployed protective position and a deflated position. post deployment, the fixing assembly comprising primary fixing means making it possible to retain the packing element against the structural element, the airbag being in the waiting position and secondary fixing means making it possible to retain the packing element when the airbag is in the protective position, characterized in that the assembly also comprises means for bringing the packing element towards the structural element when the airbag is in the post deployment position .
The invention thus makes it possible to control and optimize the travel of the lining element as a function of the deployment of the airbag and to minimize the stresses generated by the deployment of the airbag on the lining element. This attachment kit can be used regardless of the volume and the explosion power of the airbag (universal attachment). In addition, the invention improves the deformation behavior of the packing element during deployment of the airbag and in particular of a large airbag which produces a large deflection stroke of the packing element and reposition the trim element against the structural element of the vehicle after the airbag has been deployed ”
In one embodiment of the invention, the primary fixing means comprise (i) a staple holder integral with the trim element having a latching opening and (ii) a retaining member comprising a latched retaining head, on the one hand, the snap-on opening of the staple holder and snapped on, on the other hand, in an opening made in the structural element, and in that the secondary fastening means comprise a cord connecting the trim to the retaining head after releasing the retaining head from the opening of the staple holder when the airbag deploys, the cord being made of an elastic material making it possible to bring the trim element back to the structure when the airbag is in the post-deployment position.
It can be envisaged that the retaining head comprises a base in which is fixed one end of the cord, the base having snap ribs for retaining the trim element and a clip intended to engage in the opening of the structural element.
Alternatively, the retaining head is a one-piece assembly comprising the base and the clip.
In another variant, the retaining head comprises a base provided with a receiving groove into which a staple can be slid.
In another variant, the retaining head comprises a rod secured to the cord on which the clip is engaged, the assembly being inserted in the clip holder.
Preferably, the secondary fixing means comprise an anchor placed at the end of the movable cord between a waiting position and a retaining position in which the anchor is in abutment against the staple holder.
Preferably, the cord comprises an elastomeric material having an elongation coefficient of 100 to 300%.
The invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows, given solely by way of nonlimiting example and made with reference to the drawings in which:
Figures 1 to 3 show a fixing assembly retaining a trim element on a vehicle structure element according to different phases of use of an airbag;
Figures 4 and 5 show in perspective two alternative embodiments of the invention;
Figure 6 shows an embodiment of a retaining member;
Figures 7 and 8 show another embodiment of a retainer using a standard clip;
Figures 9 to 11 show several examples of staples that can be used with the retaining member of Figures 7 and 8,
Figure 12 shows another embodiment of a retainer;
Figures 13 to 15 show other embodiments of a staple.
For simplicity, the elements common to the various alternative embodiments of the invention bear common numbers.
As shown in Figures 1 to 3, the fastening assembly 1 is designed to secure a trim element 2, generally made of plastic, on a structural element 3 of a vehicle, generally metallic.
In the examples shown in FIGS. 1 to 5, the trim element 2 is provided with a staple holder 5 which has been molded with the trim element 2.
The staple holder 5 is in the form of a bridge having two lateral uprights 6 connected by a spacer 7 in which an opening 8 is formed.
The clip holder 5 is intended to receive a retaining member 9 which can be seen more particularly in FIGS. 6 and 8 in two possible embodiments.
The retaining member 9 has three parts, namely a retaining head 10 provided with a clip 12 and snap ribs 13, an anchor 15 and a cord 16 which connects the retaining head 10 to the anchor 15 .
As will appear below, the retaining head 10 is designed to secure, on the one hand, with the staple holder 5 and, on the other hand, with a structural element 3.
FIG. 6 shows an embodiment of the retaining head 10 in which the clip 12 and the snap ribs 13 form a one-piece assembly from a base 18.
It can also be seen that in this embodiment, the clip 12 is provided with support blades 17 which make it possible to absorb manufacturing tolerances and avoid unwanted noise.
Figures 7 to 12 show two alternative embodiments of the invention in which the clip 12 is separated from its base.
Figures 7 to 8 show a first embodiment in which the retaining head 10 is separated into two separate parts, namely: a base 18 and a clip 12 separate from the base 18. As shown in Figure 7, l the base is a piece of plastic material preferably co-molded with the cord 16. The base 18 comprises two returns 19 which face each other and which delimit two grooves 20.
In this alternative embodiment, the clip 12 can be a metallic element made of spring steel which has a latching part 22 in diamond shape and a foot comprising two blades 23 which engage in the grooves 20 of the base. 18. The clip 12 can have, depending on the case, variants in shape as it appears in FIGS. 13, 14 and 15. This variant embodiment thus makes it possible to embed metal clips 12 which, moreover, can be of the type standard.
The anchor 15 may have an arcuate or in other words “crescent moon” shape. The anchor 15 is mechanically connected to the cord 16, for example by overmolding.
FIGS. 10 to 11 show a second alternative embodiment in which a clip 12 is fixed directly to the cord 16. In this alternative embodiment, an anchor 15 in the form of a bar and a substantially piriform rod 20 are overmolded on the cord 16 to form the retaining member 9. The clip 12 which can be a metal clip of the type shown in FIGS. 13 to 15 is slid over the rod 20. The elasticity properties of the clip 12 are used to secure the staple on the rod.
In this variant embodiment of the invention, the staple holder 5 may have two superimposed spacers 7 which delimit a chamber 22 in which the blades 23 which form the foot of the staple 12 are slid as seen in FIG. 11.
Depending on the configuration of the trim element 2, the staple holder 5 can comprise three uprights 6.
The cord 16 which connects the anchor 15 to the retaining head 10 is made of an elastic material based in particular on elastomer of the elastane type. It is a highly elastic material which can have an elongation coefficient of the order of 100 to 300%.
Figures 4 and 5 show two alternative embodiments of a trim element 2 awaiting installation on a vehicle.
In a first embodiment, the staple holder 5 ensures the locking of the anchor 15 by an opening 25 made in a wall 24 which is perpendicular to an upright of the staple holder 5 as shown in FIG. 1. In a second form of embodiment, an opening 25 is provided directly in the amount of the staple holder in which the anchor 15 engages.
The trim element 2 thus designed is snapped into an opening 28 formed in a structural element 3 during assembly of the vehicle.
FIG. 1 thus shows the trim element 2 snapped into the opening of the structural element 3.
As can be seen in this figure, the retaining member 10 achieves a primary attachment of the lining element 2 to the structural element 3 by means of the clip 12 which ensures the retention on the structural element 3 and thanks to the snap ribs 13 which hold on the staple holder 5.
An airbag 27 shown diagrammatically in FIG. 1 in its folded configuration is interposed between the structural element 3 and the trim element 2.
When the vehicle detects a danger situation for an occupant, a deployment command is sent to the airbag 27 which triggers the deployment of the airbag 27.
FIG. 2 shows the deployment phase of the airbag 27 during which the airbag 27 pushes on the packing element 2. The pushing on the packing element 2 causes the clip holder 5 to be unclipped which releases the 'trim element 2. The retaining head 10 remains fixed in the structural element 3 but releases the trim element 2; under the effect of the thrust of the cushion, the snap ribs disappear and release the staple holder 5.
In this alternative embodiment, the trim element 2 is then connected to the vehicle by the cord 16. The anchor 15 unclips from the opening 25 in which it was previously housed and comes to bear against the spacer 7 of the trigger guard, it being specified that the anchor 15 has a dimension which does not allow it to pass through the opening 8 of the staple holder 5.
In another alternative embodiment, the anchor 15 does not unclip from the opening 25.
Figure 3 shows the post deployment configuration.
The cord 16 which is made of elastic material lengthens and accompanies the deployment of the airbag TJ as shown in FIG. 4 and risks injuring an occupant of the vehicle.
In the post-deployment configuration during which the airbag 27 deflates by vents or by the porosity of the fabric forming the cushion, the cord 16 which has been resiliently stressed contracts and brings the lining element 2 in the direction of the structural element 3 thus preventing the trim element 2 from hanging at the end of the cord 16.
Figures 1 to 3 show respectively:
- The primary retention of the trim element 2 on the body element 3 according to a nominal dimension I;
- The secondary retention of the lining element 2 on the structural element 3 during the deployment of the airbag 27 according to a maximum dimension II;
- The secondary retention of the lining element 2 on the bodywork element 3 in the deflation phase of the airbag Tl during which the elastic cord 16 brings the lining element 2 back towards the structural element 3 according to a final score III which may be of the order of 50% of the maximum score II.
The invention thus provides a fastening assembly for a packing element 2 covering a large airbag. Thanks to the presence of an elastic cord 16, the fixing assembly can ensure the retention of a lining element 2 during the deployment of a large capacity cushion by accompanying the deployment of the cushion and can ensure that the The packing element 2 is pressed onto the cushion when the airbag is deflated.
