Mattress and mattress core with said core
5 The present invention relates to a new technology applied to the core of a mattress andto mattresses comprising said core.
The mattress core should be understood as the internal part of the mattress that acts as a support, giving the mattress assembly its characteristic firmness. On the core are added a
10 or several layers with different comfort benefits. The core is, therefore, the main component of the mattress. Currently five types of mattress are known based on the different types of core: spring mattresses, foam mattresses, latex mattresses, air mattresses and water mattresses. In the case of spring mattresses, the core consists of a series of helical springs joined together. If
15 of the foam and latex mattresses, the core consists of a piece of said material, while in the case of air and water mattresses the core is a bag that receives the fluid in question (air or water).
However, despite these being the technologies that dominate the sector for years
20 as components that make up the core of the mattresses, the reality is that they lack some characteristics that would be highly valued within the sector.
One of them would be the recyclability of the mattress core. Today, only the spring cores are recyclable, which is a problem when closing the cycle of
25 life of the product and comply with the regulations that are increasingly stringent in environmental terms, and which are expected to be stricter in the future.
On the other hand, the cores of known type do not allow zoning the firmness of the core with clearly differentiated zones. It is true that there are currently based solutions
30 in foam profiles, bonding of upper layers with different foams, use of different springs along the surface of the core that allow this zoning, but they are not just truly differentiating solutions since the response in an area substantially influences others. The known techniques do not allow large variations in firmness between zones.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to present a new technology for mattress cores that presents as main novelties the possibility of recyclability once its life cycle has ended, as well as the zoning and adjustment of comfort.
5 In addition to what is indicated in the previous paragraph, the present invention allows configurationof a customizable mattress firmly according to the needs and tastes of the userfinal.
More particularly, the present invention discloses a mattress core characterized in that it comprises a plurality of profiles of constant section of elastic materials.
Preferably, the profiles are hollow profiles.
Also preferably, said profiles are linked together.
The present invention moves away from the structures traditionally used as the basis for the construction of the mattress support. Consequently, the present invention proposes the use of materials with elastic properties, preferably plastic, in the form of parts, in particular profiles, which can be obtained by a process of
20 extrusion. A further innovative concept of the present invention resides in the use of hollow pieces of a flexible material for obtaining a mattress core.
Especially advantageously, the profiles comprise a lower base and a base
25, and at least one wall that joins them, said wall having an elastic element of variable length, such that the variation in length of the elastic element modifies the distance between said lower and upper base. The elastic element may be, for example, an accordion shaped wall section.
In a particular embodiment, the profiles are joined by conjugated joining means preferably located in said lower and / or upper base of the profiles.
According to one aspect, the present invention discloses the obtaining by extrusion of profiles of a thickness such that hollow channels that are housed inside are created
35 a gas, advantageously air. The main core of the mattress may be formed by a certain number of extruded profiles (in variable number depending on the measure

of the mattress) joined together by clipping or other fixation. The present invention also provides that the profiles are obtained together in the same extrusion process.
The profiles of the core object of the present invention may be arranged longitudinally or transversely with respect to the main or greater length of the mattress. In the longitudinal arrangement, each profile is arranged along said main length. The transverse arrangement is perpendicular to it.
Through a longitudinal configuration of profiles, a uniform pressure distribution can be achieved, approaching the ideal case of isobar lines in a static situation of the sleeper. The block object of the present invention can be divided into completely isolated chambers whose longitudinal dimension is much larger than the cross section.
The present invention also has as an advantage the fact that the profiles joined together exert a low influence of movement in the direction perpendicular to the profiles. This has the consequence that each profile performs its function with little influence on adjacent profiles. This allows, especially in this configuration, to isolate the respective support of two sleepers arranged in the same mattress, obtaining what in the sector is known as bed independence.
The material that forms the profiles, as well as their geometry, has an important influence on the behavior of the whole. Consequently, this property can be used to implement areas with different rigidity depending on the material and the profile design. A cross-sectional configuration of profiles is useful to achieve greater adaptability to the body contour of the sleeper, creating different areas.
As for the ends of the profiles, the present invention provides two main aspects: a first, in which the profiles are open at their ends. In this case the comfort of the core is achieved thanks to the elastic properties of the material with which the profile has been extruded and, a second one, in which the ends of the profile have flow control means are sealed so that it is also used the air to give comfort, since they form a hermetic chamber.
In this last possibility, the profiles can be connected to each other, in addition to sealing, by means of a valve system (including pump) so that the air pressure is equalized

at all points and if necessary, even being able to control it, achieving a configurable comfort core. By controlling the air pressure inside, the firmness of the profile is controlled, which will result in a configurable comfort.
5 Once the configuration of different profiles of elastic material coveringThe entire surface of the mattress and that forms the core, to this core you can add theother components that make up the parts of a mattress (padded, side covers, covers, etc.). However, given the technological novelty of the present invention, the coreMattress built in this way may have a totally different aesthetic than
10 existing in the market.
Being a core formed by extruded profiles of elastic thermoplastic material (PVC, TPE, SBS, etc.), it is a fully recyclable core since these materials can subsequently be reused.
The present invention also comprises mattresses with the core object of the present invention.
For better understanding, some drawings of an embodiment of the object of the present invention are attached by way of explanatory but not limitative example.
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of an example of an extrusion profile of elastic thermoplastic material usable according to the present invention.
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of an example mattress core formed by profiles joined by clipping together, in transverse arrangement.
Figure 3 shows a perspective view of an example core in which some of the profiles are sealed at their ends creating airtight chambers.
Figure 4 shows a perspective view of an example of a mattress core formed by transverse profiles cloned together and in which two blocks are connected to each other, so that the pressure is equalized in the profiles.
35 Figure 5 shows a perspective view of an example of a mattress core formed by transverse profiles clipped together and connected by a valve, so that

it can be controlled that the air freely enters the profile but can only leave after a certain pressure.
Figure 6 shows a perspective view of an example of a mattress core formed by transverse profiles clipped together and connected by a pump, so that the pressure inside the profiles can be controlled.
Figure 7 shows a perspective view of an example of a traditional mattress core (in the example of foam) in which areas formed by extruded transverse profiles of elastic material are included.
Figure 8 shows a perspective view of an example of a traditional mattress core (in the example of foam) to which an extra comfort layer formed by extruded transverse profiles of elastic material is added.
An example of a -1-usable profile in the present invention is shown in Figure 1. The profile of the example can be realized by extrusion of an elastic thermoplastic material. Profile -1 is a hollow profile of essentially constant section. Profile -1 presents two bases -11-, -12-, which can be referred to as the upper base -11- and lower base -12-. The bases are connected by two parallel walls -13-, -14-, of elastic material. To regulate the spring-type elastic response of the profile, the parallel walls -13-, -14-have an accordion shape. For the connection between projections, each base -11-, -12-, has projections -112-, -122- and conjugate entrances -111-, -121-located on opposite sides. Being inbound and outbound conjugates, it is possible to join equal profiles to each other by clipping. In a general case, it is also possible to join profiles with each other by elements located on the side wall, for example.
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of an example of a mattress core formed by transverse profiles -1-clipped together. The combination of different profiles allows to obtain a core with zoned firmness. Thus, for example, groups of profiles made of plastics with different elastic modulus or with different side wall thicknesses can be alternated.
Figure 3 shows another example of blocks similar to that of the previous figure, in which two groups of profiles have been sealed at both ends using covers -2-. The covers have a central hole -21-that can be closed, so that the air is

sealed and cannot pass through the ends of the profiles, or they can serve as a means of controlling the outflow that occurs when the user leans on the mattress and the elastic response of the profiles brings the bases of the profile closer together, reducing the hollow volume of said profile.
Figure 4 shows another example of the mattress core formed by transverse profiles cloned together and similar to that of Figure 3 in which the sealed blocks of one of its ends with covers -2 have been connected to each other. by means of a connection -22- that connects the central holes -21-. In this way the pressure is equalized in all connected profiles.
Figure 5 shows another additional example of a mattress core formed by cross-sectional profiles -1 cloned together and similar to that of Figure 4. In this example, same elements
or equivalent to those of the previous examples have been identified with identical numerals and will not be described in detail. The example of figure 5 differs from the example of figure 4 in that the blocks sealed with the covers -2 are connected at one of their ends by means of a valve, so that the air pressure inside the interiors can be controlled. extruded profiles In particular, the connection -22-between blocks has a connection to the outside by means of a valve -23- and a non-return device -24-. The anti-return device shown allows the gas to escape (usually air) when the user is placed on the mattress, but prevents the air from starting at a certain pressure.
Figure 6 shows another embodiment of a mattress core formed by -1-transverse profiles cloned together and similar to that of Figure 5, in which the same elements
or similar have been identified with identical numerals and will not be described in depth. In the example of figure 6 the sealed and connected blocks are connected to a pump assembly -27-.
Figure 7 shows a perspective view of another embodiment in which the core has several alternate zones, with zones 9 of a traditional material (such as foam) alternated with zones formed by transverse profiles of elastic material.
Figure 8 shows a perspective view of another embodiment of a core according to the present invention comprising a first layer -8-formed by core of

Traditional mattress (in the foam example) to which an extra layer of comfort is added consisting of extruded -1-transverse profiles of elastic material. The profiles can be like any of the examples shown in the previous figures.
5 From the cores shown in the examples it is possible to obtain mattresses covering the core with various layers of comfort, which may be of known type, or of any other.
The profiles object of the present invention can generate a core with multiple chambers. In turn, the profiles may be mono-chamber (a single space for gas / air) or
10 multi-camera (various spaces).
While the invention has been presented and described with reference to embodiments thereof, it will be understood that these are not limiting of the invention, so that multiple constructive or other details that may be apparent to the variables could be variable.
