Detailed description of an embodiment example
Referring to the Figures, there is shown an automatic format change device 30 for automatic horizontal machine forming and filling flexible packaging


according to an embodiment of the present invention, which comprises a bed 1 that provides two separate support surfaces 25, on which respective guide rails 2 are fixed. On the bed 1, between the two support surfaces 25 , a trapezoidal spindle 5 is arranged rotatably arranged parallel to the guide rails 2, and a motor group 6, which preferably comprises an electric servo motor, is operatively connected to rotate the spindle 5.
Along the bench 1, a plurality of support carriages 3 are arranged, each of which comprises a platform 24 intended to be attached thereto a respective operating unit (not shown). The operating units may be selected, for example, from vertical welding units, lower horizontal welding units, locking element placement units, cooling units, and cutting units included in a packaging forming section of the automatic horizontal forming machine and flexible container filler.
Each of the support carriages 3 has guide followers 4 fixed in a lower part of the platform 24 which are operatively slidably coupled to said guide rails 2. Thus, the support carriages 3 can slide individually and guided along the bench 1. The platform 24 of each support carriage 3 also has a coupling support 8 fixed on its lower part in which a corresponding nut 7 is installed, which, in an operative situation, is coupled to spindle 5.
The nut 7 is installed in the coupling support 8 so that it can rotate but cannot move axially with respect to each support carriage 3. For this, the coupling support 8 comprises a bearing carrier body 26 (Fig. 4) which has about seats in which outer rings of bearings 18 are seated and nut 7 has seats in which inner rings of said bearings are seated 18. Side covers 27 fixed to bearing carrier body 26 retain bearings 18 in the axial direction . The bearings 18 are, for example, deep groove ball bearings suitable for supporting radial loads and axial loads.
The coupling support 8 of each support carriage 3 has a clutch element 9, which is in the form of a pivoting lever having a first end articulatedly connected to the coupling support 8, and more specifically to the bearing carrier body 26, by a articulation pin 13. Activation of the clutch actuator 10 in one direction or another moves the clutch element 9 between a clutch position (not shown), in which said tooth 12 of the clutch element 9 interferes with the outer peripheral teeth 11 of the nut 7 blocking the rotation of the nut 7 with respect to the coupling support 8, and a release position (Fig. 5), in which the tooth 12 of the clutch element 9 is separated from the outer peripheral teeth 11 of the nut 7 allowing free rotation of nut 7 with respect to coupling support 8.
The automatic format change device includes locking means for fixing each support carriage 3 with respect to the bed 1 in a selected position in accordance with a predetermined flexible package format to be produced. In the illustrated embodiment, these locking means comprise a brake shoe 19 installed in a locking support 29 fixed in the lower part of the platform 24 of each support carriage 3. In the blocking support 29, an actuator is also installed. lock 20 operatively connected to move the brake shoe 19 between a lock position (not shown), wherein said brake shoe 19 is pressed by the lock actuator 20 against a retaining surface 21 of the bed 1, and a release position (Figs. 3 and 5), in which the brake shoe 19 is separated from said retaining surface 21 of the bed 1.
