DESCRIPTION
Device to separate pedicles of fruits grouped in clusters and method to separate pedicles of fruits grouped in clusters
The present invention relates to a device for separating pedicles of fruits grouped into clusters, such as cherries. It also refers to a method to separate pedicles of fruits grouped into clusters. The invention is applicable in the food industry. Prior art
There is a need to separate the fruits that are collected from a producer tree linked together by means of their tails or pedicles, that is, fruits grouped in clusters, so that, once the separation is made, each of the fruits conserves its respective individual pedicle. This facilitates the subsequent processing of the fruits since, once individualized, they can be properly classified, for example, by size, color, maturity or quality, thus improving the commercial presentation and the price that can be obtained for the product. Automatic separation considerably reduces labor costs that manual separation would entail.
Documents FR2820287 and ES2319713 describe devices for separating fruit pedicles grouped into clusters. These devices comprise a hydraulic circuit in which a mixture of liquid and fruits is admitted inside a centrifugal and driven pump, so that said devices use an adapted pump (step open enough) so that the mixed fruits can pass through the liquid through its interior elements. However, the passage of the fruits through a centrifugal pump can cause damages of different consideration to the fruits processed by the device, since when entering the fruits in the body of the centrifugal pump there is a risk that the fruits collide with the moving parts of the pump and walls, especially when the pump is made to work at high speed to ensure good efficiency in the separation of pedicles, when the flow of fruits is high, when it comes to sensitive fruits by their variety or their maturity, or when the separation is more difficult due to the resistance of the pedicles to be separated, also forcing the pump to increase in order to achieve an adequate percentage of separation efficiency.
Thus, there is a need to develop a device for the separation of pedicles of fruits grouped into clusters (that is, through their respective pedicles), with which at least some of the above-mentioned drawbacks are overcome.

Detailed statement of embodiments of the invention
In the different figures the same reference numbers have been used to indicate the same elements.
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a device for separating fruit pedicles grouped into clusters according to an embodiment of the invention. According to figure 1 the device comprises a fruit receiving compartment (1). In an embodiment as they arrive from the place of collection, the fruits can be dumped directly into the fruit receiving compartment (1). In other embodiments, the fruits can be dumped on a conveyor belt (not shown in any figure) that transports the fruits to the fruit receiving compartment (1). The fruits, coming directly from the place of collection, are grouped in clusters joined by their pedicles.
At the time that the device object of the invention begins to work it is essential that in the fruit receiving compartment (1) there is a liquid (preferably water) together with the fruits.
As for the operation of the device it is necessary that there is a mixture of liquid and fruits, to generate said mixture it can happen that:
-the fruit receiving compartment (1) already contains the liquid, -the liquid is added to the fruit receiving compartment (1) after the reception of the fruits, or -fruits and liquid are provided simultaneously.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, the fruit receiving compartment (1) comprises an inclined plane that guarantees the fall by gravity of the fruits to a lower part (102) of the fruit receiving compartment (1).
Figure 2 shows that the device comprises a fruit suction zone (10) connected to the lower part (102) of the fruit receiving compartment (1) through a suction mouth (6). Following the fruit aspiration zone (10), according to the path that the fruits make in the device object of the invention, the device comprises a channel (12) through which the fruits circulate. The channel (12) in the preferred embodiment of the invention is in an upright position.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention (the one shown in Figure 1), the fruit receiving compartment (1) is connected at its upper part (101) to a liquid aspiration zone (11). The liquid aspiration zone (11) is connected to the fruit receiving compartment (1) through a filter (2), which prevents any impurity from the fruits from passing along with the liquid. The filter (2) can be a mesh filter that allows the passage of liquid and retains the fruits, and can also comprise a non-filtering wall (21) in contact with the fruit receiving compartment (1). In these cases, the non-filtering wall (21) has an upper end (22) located in a position lower than the height of the fruit receiving compartment (1) (see figure 2) so that, with the device in use , when the fruit receiving compartment (1) is filled with liquid with fruits and said liquid exceeds that upper end (22), the liquid enters the liquid aspiration zone (11). The filter (2) ensures that the liquid sucked by the pump (31) is free of debris, since the fruit that is
introduced into the fruit receiving compartment (1) comes directly from the collection and carries a multitude of waste.
The filter (2) of the device object of the invention in the preferred embodiment of the invention is in the form of a drawer, so that the filter can be extracted and remove the debris that has accumulated in the drawer.
In addition, the liquid suction zone (11) is connected to a pump (31) through a first hole (3) made in a side wall. In some embodiments, the device further comprises an additional filter (13) located between the liquid aspiration zone (11) and the first hole (3).
The device object of the invention comprises a narrowing (7) following the fruit suction zone (10) with an outlet of the narrowing (7) leading to the inside of a channel (12), leaving a water passage (14 ) between the walls of the narrowing outlet (7) and the walls of the channel (12).
The channel (12) is part of a conduit (8) comprising a tube or conduit that carries the high-speed liquid from the pump (31) to the conduit (8) through a second orifice (4), so that the fruit-free liquid aspirated and accelerated is reinjected into the channel (12) through the passage of water (14) between the walls of the narrowing outlet (7) and the walls of the channel (12) producing a creeping depression the mixture of liquid with fruits present in the zone of aspiration of fruits (10). As a consequence of the effect of depression, a turbulent regime is generated in the canal (12) that causes the dragged fruits joined by their pedicles to separate from each other.
According to the embodiment of Figure 2, the device comprises, next to the channel (12), a vertical housing (5a) (observable in Figure 3), which ends in an evacuation zone (5b) of fruits that, As can be seen in the embodiment of Figure 2, it is arranged perpendicular to the vertical housing (5a).
Figures 3a and 3b show opposite schematic perspective views of an embodiment of vertical housing (5a) incorporated in the device of Figure 1. For better visualization of the elements of the vertical housing (5a), said vertical housing (5a) is It has represented as if it were transparent. In this embodiment it is shown that both the fruit aspiration zone (10), as well as the narrowing (7) and the channel (12) are located in the vertical housing (5a). In both figures 3a and 3b, a suction mouth (9) is also seen from the channel (12) to the vertical housing (5a) through which the mixture of liquid and fruits is drawn to the evacuation zone (5b ).
In the embodiment of figure 3a the suction mouth (9) is housed in a lower area of the vertical housing (5a) and in figure 3b it is clearly shown that the conduction
(8) for means for injection of liquid at high speed it is located in a position before the suction mouth (9) considering the direction of movement of the fruits in the device object of the invention.
The area in which the narrowing occurs (7) is covered with a low friction coefficient material that facilitates the passage of the mixture of liquid and fruits through it. In the different embodiments, the low coefficient of friction material used to coat this gap (7) is a material of choice between polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), high molecular weight polyethylene and polyphthalamide (PPA).
Figure 4a shows a section of the suction mouth (6) that gives access to the fruit aspiration zone (10). In said figure 4a the arrows designated "a" represent the mixture of fruits and liquid entering the fruit aspiration zone (10). The narrowing (7) is located above (upstream) of the fruit aspiration zone (10). The arrows designated "b" and "c" represent the mixture of fruits and liquid dragged upstream through the narrowing (7) due to the depression caused by the introduction of liquid at high speed by the conduction (8). Likewise, the arrows designated "d" represent the mixture of fruits and liquid carried by depression. In addition, the arrow designated "E" represents the injection of liquid at high speed through conduction (8). The injection of liquid at high speed contributes both to produce a necessary turbulence so that the pedicles connected to each other separate and to drag the mixture of fruits and liquid from the area of aspiration of fruits (10) to the evacuation zone ( 5b).
Figure 4b shows two possible positions (d and d ') of the conduit (8) with respect to the fruit aspiration zone (10) within the channel (12). These two positions can be achieved by means to regulate the driving position (8).
These means for regulating the position of the conduit (8) are collision holes and grooves, where the conduit (8) moves at its entrance to the channel (12).
In all embodiments, the fruit aspiration zone (10), the conduit (8) and the channel (12) can take any section, for example circular, square, rectangular or any other shape, these elements can take a section other than the section of the element located below or before (following the path of the fruits in the device object of the invention), provided that the changes in section between adjacent elements do not alter the flow from the suction mouth (6) towards the evacuation zone (5b).
In all embodiments of the invention, instead of centrifugal pumps other types of pumps for liquid can be used as long as the pressure jet can be directed inside the conduit (8) to drive the mixing of fruits and liquid in the direction towards the evacuation zone (5b).
The object of the invention is a method for separating pedicles of fruits grouped into clusters using the previously defined device.
The method to separate pedicles of fruits grouped into clusters comprises the following steps:
-provide a mixture of fruits grouped in clusters and liquid in a fruit receiving compartment (1),
-aspirate part of the liquid and circulate at high speed through at least one pump,
-filtrate the aspirated liquid,
- to pass the mixture of fruits grouped in clusters and liquid to a zone of aspiration of fruits (10) through a mouth of aspiration (6),
-inject the liquid at high speed through a conduit (8) to a channel (12) located next to the fruit aspiration zone (10) generating a depression in the channel
(12) that draws a mixture of liquid with fruits present in the fruit aspiration zone (10) towards a narrowing (7) located between the channel (12) and the fruit aspiration zone (10), and such that generate turbulence around the fruits that separate from each other fruit pedicles,
- circulate the fruits towards an evacuation zone (5b) arranged upstream of the narrowing (7), and
