Tool for Assisting the Process of Cutting Grooves in a Structure
Field of invention
The present invention relates to a tool for assisting the process of cutting grooves in a structure. The present invention more particularly relates to a tool for assisting the process of cutting grooves in a roof structure in a manner in which parallel grooves can be provided with a predefined distance between adjacent grooves.
Prior art
When providing a roof structure with roofing felt, it is important to be able to arrange the gutter brackets in a manner in which they do not protrude from the roof structure. Therefore, the gutter brackets are required to be arranged in grooves provided in the roof structure. Moreover, the grooves have to extent perpendicular to the roof edge.
It is known to apply various tools for assisting the process of cutting grooves in a roof structure, when gutter brackets have to be attached to a roofing structure. The known tools, however, needs to be held in place manually. Unfortunately, the prior art tools are often unintended moved during the cutting procedure. For this reason it is very difficult to provide the grooves in a manner in which they extend parallel to each other and in which the distance between adjacent grooves corresponds to a predefined distance.
Accordingly, there is a need for a tool which reduces or even eliminates the above mentioned disadvantages of the prior art.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a tool for assisting the process of cutting grooves in a structure in a manner in which parallel grooves can be provided with a predefined distance between adjacent grooves.

A scale portion 16 is provided at the rod member 4. Accordingly, the position of the insert member 6 may be adjusted by using the scale portion 16.
DK 2018 00112 A1
The plate member 6 is shaped as a rectangular plate provided with holes 12 arranged along the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6. A ring structure 14, 14' surrounds each of the holes 12. The plate member 6 is furthermore provided with additional holes 10 arranged close to the periphery of the plate member 6. A first cylindrical attachment structure 24 has been inserted through one of the holes in the plate member 6 and an additional attachment structure 26 (having a cylindrical geometry) has been received by one of the additional holes in the plate member 6. The plate member 6 is provided with a guiding structure 50 extending along the entire length of the plate member 6 parallel to the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6. The guiding structure 50 is adapted to be used to control the motion of a milling cutter or another tool used to cut a groove in a rood structure.
Fig. 2A illustrates a perspective side view of a rod member 4 of a tool according to the invention. The rod member 4 comprises a groove 18 extending parallel to the longitudinal axis X of the rod member 4 along the entire length of the rod member 4. An insert structure 8 having a sliding block 28 received by the groove 18 is attached to the rod member 4. The insert structure 8 is slidably attached to the rod member 4. The sliding block 28 is slidably arranged in the groove 18.

DK 2018 00112 A1
Fig. 2B illustrates a perspective top view of a plate member 6 of a tool according to the invention. The plate member 6 is rectangular and comprises first hole 12 and a second hole 12' arranged along the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6. Each of the holes 12, 12' are surrounded by a reinforcement structure formed as a ring structure 14, 14' that may be manufactured in a wear resistant magnetic material for providing wear resistant hole structures 12, 12' and at the same time allow for magnetic attraction (with respect to the magnetic disc member 52).
Two additional holes 10, 10' are provided close to the side portion of the plate member 6. The holes 12, 12' are configured to receive the protruding portion of the attachment member 24, whereas the additional holes 10, 10' are configured to receive the protruding portion of the other attachment member 26. Since the holes 12, 12' are provided symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6, the plate member 6 may be attached to the rod member 4 in to manners: in a first configuration in which protruding portions of the attachment members 24, 26 are inserted into the holes 12, 10 respectively, and in a second configuration in which protruding portions of the attachment members 24, 26 are inserted into the holes 12', 10' respectively. The plate member 6 is provided with a guiding structure 50 extending along the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6. The guiding structure 50 is configured to be used to control the motion of a milling cutter or another tool used to cut a groove in a rood structure.
Fig. 2C illustrates an exploded view of the rod member 4 shown in Fig.
2A. The rod member 4 is provided with a groove 18 extending parallel to the longitudinal axis X of the rod member 4 along the entire length of the rod member 4. An insert structure 8 having a sliding block 28 is arranged above the rod member 4. The insert structure 8 is configured
DK 2018 00112 A1 to be slidably attached to the rod member 4 by arranging the sliding block 28 slidably in the groove 18.
The rod member comprises a scale portion 16 provided at the side structure of the rod member 6. Two attachment structures 24, 26 are fixedly attached to the rod member 4. The attachment may be established by using any suitable attachment structures including screws, welding and geometric locking structures. Accordingly, the position of the attachment structures 24, 26 cannot be changed.
It is, however, possible to provide a rod member 4, in which the attachment structures 24, 26 are slidably attached to the rod member
4. This may be accomplished by applying attachment structures 24, 26 that are slidably attached to the rod member 4 by means of sliding blocks slidably in the groove 18.
The attachment structures 24, 26 are adapted to be slidably arranged in the groove 18. Accordingly, the position of the attachment structures 24, 26 can be changed e.g. in order to make the position of the attachment structures 24, 26 fit to the holes in different plate members, wherein the holes are positioned differently. The attachment structure 24 is surrounded by a magnetic disc member 52 configured to be attached to the back side of one of the ring structures 14, 14' of the plate member 6 (see Fig. 2B). Accordingly, the plate member 6 can be held in place both in directions parallel to the longitudinal axis X of the rod member 4, the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6 and directions Z perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X of the rod member 4 and the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6.
Fig. 3A illustrates a perspective view of a tool 2 according to the invention. The tool 2 is provided with a rod member 4 having a longitudinal axis X and a plate member 6 detachably attached to the
DK 2018 00112 A1 rod member 4. The longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6 extends perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X of the rod member 4. The rod member 4 comprises a centrally arranged roove 18 extending along the length of the rod member 4.
An elongated insert member 8 is attached to the rod member 4. The insert member 8 has been inserted to the groove 18. Hereby, the insert member 8 is fixed to the rod member 4 by means of an attachment structure comprising a screw 22 and a sliding block arranged in the groove 18. The rod member 4 comprises a scale portion 16 provided near the periphery of the rod member 4. The position of the insert member 6 can be adjusted by using the scale portion 16.
The plate member 6 is rectangular and provided with holes 12 arranged along the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6. Each of the holes 12 are surrounded by a ring structure 14, 14'. The plate member 6 comprises additional holes 10 arranged close to the periphery of the plate member 6. A first attachment structure 24 has been inserted through one of the holes in the plate member 6 and an additional attachment structure 26 has been received by one of the additional holes in the plate member 6. The plate member 6 is provided with a guiding structure 50 extending along the length of the plate member 6 parallel to the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6. The guiding structure 50 can be used to control the motion of a milling cutter or another tool used to cut a groove in a rood structure.
Fig. 3B illustrates another perspective view of the tool 2 shown in Fig. 3A. Fig. 3A and Fig. 3B are almost similar; however, schematically illustrated milling cutters 44, 44' are arranged next to the side portion of the plate member 6. For illustration purposes, the milling cutter 44 is simplified. It can, however, bees seen that the milling cutters 44, 44' bear against the side structure of the plate member 6 and that the tool
DK 2018 00112 A1 and the milling cutters 44, 44', hereby, can be used to cut a groove that extends parallel to the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6 and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X of the rod member 4. The plate member 6 comprises a guiding structure 50 protruding from the top surface of the plate member 6 and extending along the length of the plate member 6 parallel to the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6. The guiding structure 50 is adapted to be used to control the motion of a milling cutter or another tool used to cut a groove in a rood structure.
Fig. 4A illustrates a schematic view of a tool 2 according to the invention used to cut grooves 38 for gutter brackets in a roof structure 34. The tool 2 is used to assist a cutting process, in which grooves 38 for attachment of gutter brackets are established. The use of the tool 2 ensures that the groove 38 extends perpendicular to the edge 36 of the roof structure 34. Furthermore, the tool 2 makes it possible to provide adjacent grooves 38 with a predefined distance d (see Fig. 4B).
A milling cutter 44' abuts the side portion of the plate member 6 of the tool 2. When the milling cutter 44' is moved along the side portion of the plate member 6 in the direction 42 indicated by an arrow 42, a groove 38 is being cut by means of the milling cutter 44'. Any suitable cutting device may be applied.
The tool 2 comprises a plate member 6 detachably attached to a rod member 5. An insert structure 8 extending perpendicular to the rod member 4 is slidably attached to the rod member 4. The plate member 6 is attached to the rod member 4 by means of attachment structures 24, 26 inserted into corresponding receiving structures (holes 10, 12') provided in the plate member 6. The plate member 6 is provided with a longitudinal guiding structure 50 adapted to guide a cutting or milling device so that the groove 38 may extend parallel to the guiding
DK 2018 00112 A1 structure 50.
Once a groove 38 has been provided in the roof structure 34, the insert structure 8 can be inserted into the groove 38. Accordingly, rod member 4 extends parallel to the edge 36 of the roof structure 34. The tool 2 comprises a plate member 6 corresponding to the one explained with reference to Fig. 2B.
Fig. 4B illustrates a situation, in which a groove 38 has been provided in the roof structure 34 and wherein the insert structure 8 can be inserted into the groove 38. The rod member 4 has been rotated 180 degrees compared with the configuration shown in Fig. 4A. Moreover, The plate member has been rotated 180 degrees.
A milling cutter 44 abuts the side portion of the plate member 6. Accordingly, when the milling cutter 44 is used (moved in the direction 42) as illustrated in Fig. 4B, an additional groove extending parallel to the first groove 38 in is provided in the predefined distance d1 from the first groove 38. By adjusting the position of the insert member 8 on the rod member 4, it is possible to adjust the distance d1 between adjacent grooves (38, 40 see Fig. 4C).
The width of the groove 38 is defined by the geometry of the cutter disk of the milling cutter 44. The width of the insert structure 8 may be selected to fit the width of the groove 38 made by the milling cutter 44. The plate member 6 is provided with a guiding structure 50 extending along the length of the plate member 6 parallel to the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6. The guiding structure 50 can be used to control the motion of a milling cutter or another tool used to cut a groove in a rood structure.
Fig. 4C illustrates a schematic view of two grooves 38, 40 cut by using
DK 2018 00112 A1 a tool 2 according to the invention. It can be seen that the two grooves 38, 40 are basically rectangular and extend perpendicular to the edge 36 of the roof structure 34. The two grooves 38, 40 extend parallel to each other and are shaped to receive gutter brackets 48. Gutter brackets 48 are arranged next to the grooves 38, 40. By arranging the gutter brackets 48 in the grooves 38, 40, it is possible to countersink the gutter brackets 48. Hereby, the gutter brackets 48 do not protrude from the roof structure 34. When providing a roof structure with roofing felt, it is important to be able to arrange the gutter brackets 48 in a manner in which they do not protrude from the roof structure 34.
Fig. 4D illustrates a schematic view of the tool 2 shown in Fig. 4A used to cut and additional groove for gutter brackets in the roof structure shown in Fig. 4A and Fig. 4B. A milling cutter 44 is aligned along the side structure of the plate member 6. Accordingly, when the milling cutter 44 is used and moved in the direction 42, an additional groove extending parallel to the first groove 38 and the second groove 40 is provided in the predefined distance d from the second groove 40. It can be seen that the distance d1 between the first groove 38 and the second groove 40 corresponds to the distance d2 between the second groove 40 and the additional groove being cut by the milling cutter 44. By adjusting the position of the insert member 8 on the rod member 4, it is possible to change distance d1, d2 between adjacent grooves 38, 40.
The insert structure 8 is adapted to fit the grooves 38, 40 made by the milling cutter 44. If another cutter disc is used, it is possible to replace the insert structure 8 with another one having another width in order to make the insert structure 8 fit into the groove 38, 40. The plate member 6 is provided with a guiding structure 50 extending along the length of the plate member 6 parallel to the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6. The guiding structure 50 can be used to control the motion of a milling cutter or another tool used to cut a groove in a rood
DK 2018 00112 A1 structure.
Fig. 5 illustrates a schematic top view of a tool 2 according to the invention. The tool 2 comprises a rod member 4 having a longitudinal axis X. The tool 2 comprises a plate member 6 detachably attached to the rod member 4. When the plate member 6 is attached to the rod member 4, the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6 extends perpendicular to the longitudinal axis X of the rod member 4.
The rod member 4 is provided with a centrally arranged groove 18 extending along the entire length of the rod member 4.
An elongated insert member 8 is detachably attached to the rod member 4. The insert member 8 has been inserted to the groove 18 and hereby fixed to the rod member 4 by means of an attachment structure comprising a screw 22 and a sliding block 28 arranged in the groove 18. A scale portion 16 is provided at the rod member 4. Accordingly, the position of the insert member 6 may be adjusted by using the scale portion 16.
The plate member 6 is shaped as a rectangular plate provided with holes 12 arranged along the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6. A ring structure 14, 14' surrounds each of the holes 12. The plate member 6 comprises additional holes 10 arranged close to the periphery of the plate member 6. A first cylindrical attachment structure 24 is inserted through one of the holes in the plate member 6 and an additional attachment structure 26 (having a cylindrical geometry) has been received by one of the additional holes in the plate member 6. The plate member 6 is provided with a guiding structure 50 extending along the entire length of the plate member 6 parallel to the longitudinal axis Y of the plate member 6. The guiding structure 50 protrudes from the top surface of the remaining portion of the plate member 6. The guiding
