Cable clamp
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to cable clamps for wind turbines, which cable clamps comprise a cable clamp top and a cable clamp bottom, which cable clamp top and cable clamp bottom comprise a first and a second chest, which first and second chest are connected at least by first fastening means.
Object of the Invention
It is the object of the pending patent application to achieve an effective cable clamp for fastening cables in wind turbine towers.
A further object is to assure distance between cables to reduce temperature increase in the cables.
Description of the Invention
The objects can be fulfilled by a cable clamp as disclosed in the opening paragraph and modified in that the cable clamp can form three openings which openings in the cable clamps are partly formed as cylinders, which cable clamps can accommodate three cables.
Hereby, it can be achieved that three cables can be placed in the openings. In that way, the cables can be guided to hang mostly parallel for some distance. In a tower of a wind turbine there will be cable clamps to hold the cables with some distance downwards in the tower. The cable clamps as such are not necessarily fixed directly at the tower, but can be fixed to a fixture that is carried inside the wind turbine tower. In that way, it can be assured that cables are hanging free without any contact to the tower.
Because several cable clamps probably are placed at the same fixture, the cable clamps assure that the cables are kept at a defined distance between each other. In that way, it is further achieved that the temperature at the surface of the cables can be rela
DK 2017 70766 A1 tively low because there will be some air flow around the cables, and which are assured by the distance between the cables in a tower of a wind turbine.
In a preferred embodiment for the invention, the partly formed cylinders comprise a rounded cable inlet and a rounded cable outlet. Hereby, it is achieved that no sharp edges will be in touch with the cable and any fret is avoided. This is rather important because cables inside a wind turbine tower have to follow, by a cable loop, the movement of the nacelle for following the wind direction. Therefore, it is rather important in the long life of the cabling in a wind turbine tower that the cable clamps are able to fasten the cables without any risk of fret of the cables.
In a further preferred embodiment for the invention, the rounded section has a radius preferably of 75mm, min 20mm and max 150mm. Hereby, it can be achieved that the rounded sections are defined by a circle radius, and thereby it is avoided that the rounded sections have any sharp edges and that the surface of the rounded sections are prepared for some kind of movement of the cables which can take place without any damage to the cable.
In a further preferred embodiment for the invention, the cable clamp bottom comprises two circular sections, which circular sections are more than 180 degrees of a circle. Hereby, it is achieved that a cable can be pressed into the circular sections, and the cable will hereafter be fixed partly because a kind of a click function is achieved. Because the cable is partly flexible due to the isolation, and also the cable clamp is partly elastic, thereby the cable can be snapped into the two circular sections and, hereby, be held in place until the third cable is in place and the top section is fixed to the bottom section and, thereby, performing a fixation of the cables.
In a further preferred embodiment for the invention, the chest of the cable clamp top comprises holes for fastening means. Hereby, it can be achieved that the chest of the cable clamp top is prepared for mounting fixation means such as for example a bolt. The hole in the chest could be used for many other fastening means such as rivets.
In a further preferred embodiment for the invention, the chest of the cable clamp top comprises protrusions. Hereby, it can be achieved that the protrusions are used in the
DK 2017 70766 A1 cable clamp in order to perform preliminary fixation before the fixation is made for example by a bolt.
In a further preferred embodiment for the invention, the protrusions can be formed conical with a smaller diameter towards the top of the protrusion. Hereby, it can be achieved that it will be much easier to assemble the cable clamp because the conical protrusions will easily be pressed into holes in the clamp bottom and because they are conical they will automatically correct the position of the top clamp in relation to the bottom clamp.
In a further preferred embodiment for the invention, the cable clamp bottom comprises an in-moulded head screw. Hereby, it can be achieved that the head screw is in place and the bolt only has to be mounted. The bolt can be mounted by an automatic screwing machine whereby the assembly of the cable clamp can be performed very easily.
In a further preferred embodiment for the invention, the second chest of the cable clamp bottom comprises openings to cooperate with the protrusions of the cable clamp top. Hereby, it can be achieved that the pre-assembling of the cable clamp can be performed highly effective.
In a further preferred embodiment for the invention, the second chest of the cable clamp bottom comprises openings for the fastening means. Hereby, it can be achieved that the fastening means placed in the chest of the cable clamp top can go through the chest of the top and, hereafter, through the chest of the bottom. Hereby, a highly effective fastening can be achieved if it is a bolt that has to be screwed or if it is a rivet which just has to be pressed in place.
In a further preferred embodiment for the invention, the opening ends in an inmoulded jam nut. Hereby, it is achieved that the in-moulded jam nut is already in place and the bolt from the opposite side just has to be screwed down into the jam nut. Hereby is achieved a possible method of assembling a cable clamp.
DK 2017 70766 A1
In a further preferred embodiment for the invention, the cable clamps can be formed of a plastic material. Hereby, it is achieved that a cable clamp can be made in a light weight material and, by different kind of plastics, it is possible to perform reinforcement of plastic by adding fibre material before moulding. Different materials could be used for reinforcement of plastic such as carbon fibres, glass fibres or maybe even metal fibres. Instead of plastic, it should be possible also to produce the cable clamps in different metals or metal alloys.
In a further preferred embodiment for the invention, the plastic material can be PA6.
The pending patent application further concerns use of a plurality of cable clamps connected to common frames, which frames are placed inside a tower of a wind turbine. Hereby, it is achieved that the common frame can carry a plurality of cable clamps and in that way keep the cables in correct position in relation to the frame. The frame can be mechanically connected to the tower of the wind turbine. The common frame can have many different forms, but in some applications a more or less circle form for the frame is preferred. In other situations, it may be a straight form, but a longer frame will be preferred where the cables are more or less guided to be placed in a row inside the tower of the wind turbine.
The pending patent application further concerns a method for cable fastening in a wind turbine tower by cables mounted in cable clamps, and mounting of cables is performed in the following steps:
a) mount the cable clamp bottom parts at frames,
b) mount the frames in the tower of a wind turbine,
c) place two cables in the circle parts of the clamp bottom part by a click function achieved by letting the opening of the clamp bottom part to be more than 180 degrees of the circle,
d) place the clamp top part at the third cable with the click function,
DK 2017 70766 A1
e) mount the top clamp part with bottom clamp part and lift the frame upwards in the tower,
f) continue in the same way with the next frame until all frames are installed.
Hereby, it can be achieved that a high number of cables can be mounted at the frame by cable clamps, and mounting of the cable clamps and the cables can be performed maybe in the bottom of the tower or maybe at one or more cable plat forms up in the wind turbine tower. In this way, a highly effective mounting of cables can be performed in a relative high tower of a wind turbine.

Detailed Description of the Invention
Fig. 1 shows a possible embodiment for a wind turbine 4. This wind turbine 4 has a tower 40 and a nacelle 42. Further, blades 44 are indicated, which are fixed to a hub 46.
Fig. 2 shows a possible embodiment for a cable clamp 2, which embodiment is formed for a cable clamp 2, which embodiment is formed by a cable clamp top 6 and a cable clamp bottom 8. The cable clamp top 6 comprises first chests 10a,b and the cable clamp bottom 8 comprises second chests 12a,b. At fig. 2, cylindrical openings 18a,b,c
DK 2017 70766 A1 are indicated. These cylinders have rounded cable inlets 22a,b,c. Further is indicated an opening 26 in order to assemble the cable clamp 2 by screwing. Further is indicated an in-moulded head screw 30.
The cable clamp 2 seen at fig. 2 is, by the openings 18a,b,c, formed in order to adapt three cables, because the cables are to be fastened in the cylinders 18a,b,c and there is a cable inlet 22a which has a rounded surface. Hereby, it can be achieved that cables, which maybe are moving in relation to the cable clamp, are passing through the rounded surface and in that way it is avoided that any fret takes place.
Fig. 3 shows a side view of a cable clamp 2. At fig. 2, a cable clamp top 6 and a cable clamp bottom 8 are indicated and also the first chests 10a,b and the second chests 12a,b. Further, the cylinders 18a,b,c are indicated. The rounded cable inlets 22a,b,c are also indicated at fig. 3 as well as the in-moulded head screw 30.
Fig. 4 shows the cable clamp top 6 in a side view. The chests 10a,b are indicated and the circular openings 18a,b,c are partly shown. Further, the rounded cable inlets 22a,b,c are indicated and also below the chests 10a,b protrusions 28 are indicated.
The protrusions 28 are to cooperate with openings in the cable clamp bottom 8. The protrusions 28 are slight conical in order to guide the assembling of the cable clamp.
Fig. 5 shows a three-dimensional view of the cable clamp top 6. At fig. 5, the circular openings 18a,b,c are indicated. These openings will at first be fulfilled as circular openings when the cable clamp 2 is assembled. Further, the rounded cable inlets 22b,c are indicated as well as the opening 26 and the protrusions 28 are to be seen.
Fig. 6 shows a side view of the cable clamp bottom 8 and chests 12a,b are indicated. Further is indicated a part of the circular openings 18a,b,c. Further is indicated the inmoulded screw 30.
At fig. 6, it can be seen that the circular openings 18a,c are more than 180 degrees. Hereby, it is achieved that if the cable is pressed into the openings 18a,c, there will be a kind of a snap connection. This is achieved because the wall of the cable clamp bot
DK 2017 70766 A1 tom 8 is relative flexible and also the cable isolation is flexible. This means that cables can be snapped into the cable clamp bottom and be kept in place until the third cable is placed in the cable clamp top 6 and assembling is made. Hereby, the assembling of the cable clamp is much easier.
Fig. 7 shows the cable clamp bottom now in a 3D indication. The chests 12a,b can be seen. Further, it is indicated the circular opening 18a and also part of 18b which is seen together with 18c. Further at fig. 7, rounded cable inlets 22a,b,c are shown and cable outlets 24a,b but 24c is not showed. Further openings 32 and 34 are indicated. Also the in-moulded head screw 30 can be seen.
In the assembling process, the openings 32 are to accommodate the protrusions 28. Hereafter, it is possible to place a screw in the opening 26 as seen at fig. 5 and letting the bolt enter the opening 34 where an in-moulded jam nut 36 is receiving the bolt.
Fig. 8 shows a sectional view of the cable clamp bottom 8. Here, it is indicated a part of the circular openings 18a,b,c. Further, the chests 12a,b are indicated and the inmoulded head screw 30. Openings 34 are suitable for a screw which has to be screwed into the in-moulded jam nut 36.
Fig. 9 shows a frame 38 which is made of three sections 38a,b,c. To that frame there are fixed cable clamps 2 which are fixed by the in-moulded head screw 30, which is fixed by nuts to the frame 38. The frame 38 also comprises an inner frame 52, which carries a further cable clamp 54, which is closed by fixation means 56. The inner cable clamp is for holding and fixation of communication and control cables which are placed inside the opening of the cable clamp 54. Further, openings 58 are indicated in the frame 38. These openings are for fixation of the frame 38, which fixation could be made mechanically with metal frames that are connected more or less rigid towards the tower of a wind turbine. Another possibility is that the openings 58 are used to connect cables that are holding the frame 38 in the correct position but in a very flexible manner.
Fig. 10 shows an enlarged schematically view of the circular opening 18 seen in a sectional view. At fig. 10 is indicated that the rounded inlet 22 has a diameter with a
DK 2017 70766 A1 radius of 75mm which is the same at the cable outlet 24, which also is indicated having a radius of 75mm.
The radius of 75mm is not absolute because other circular diameters should also be possible. A radius between 20mm to 150mm is possible and the radius of the rounded inlet and outlet has to be defined in relation to the material of the cable clamp as such. By designing the opening 18 with rounded inlet and outlet it can be achieved that even if there is some movement in the cables it will not occur any fret of the cables. This could be very important during a long life of a tower of a wind turbine.
