    Box for safely storage of a firearm
    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
    The present invention is directed to a system for safely holding a handgun or other firearm. Moreover, the invention relates to a trigger mechanism for releasing the handgun or other firearm in response to a rightful user's activation.
    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
    Safe and accessible storage of firearms is of major importance. Some people store their firearms in unsafe locations which renders the firearm accessible to e.g. children, which is undesirable.
    Various measures, such as trigger locks and separation of ammunition from the firearm, have been used in an attempt to help prevent accidental firing, but these measures may be circumvented. Moreover, such measures may leave the weapon and/or ammunition too inaccessible for emergency use, as they must be removed and/or corrected by the owner before it can be used.
    Some gun owners choose to store their firearm in a safe. Although storage in a safe solves some of the above problems, many safes utilize keys or codes that can be obtained by children or other individuals that should not have access to them. Additionally, many safes are not readily located in a place where they can easily be accessed in an emergency. Also, many safes simply take too long to open in the event of an emergency.
    What is needed is storage systems and methods that overcome the above problems.
    SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
    In the event of an emergency, a handgun may be either inaccessible or require latches to
    DK 2017 70556 A1 be released. This requires time, which in emergency situations is very valuable. The present invention features a handgun holding system for providing rapid and safe accesses to the handgun.
    The present invention provides a secured holding system for a handgun. The system further comprises a barrel engagement device for temporarily engaging a barrel of a handgun.
    Specifically the invention provides a box for safely storage of a firearm comprising:
    a compartment (1) having bottom, sides and top joined together and defining a space for receiving a part of the firearm, said compartment having a front with an opening to the interior of the compartment;
    a support member (7) for supporting the lower portion of a front part of the firearm, a holding member (2) for receiving the front part of the firearm and supporting the upper portion and the side portions of the front part of the firearm, said holding member having a hinge (3) and being pivotal about said hinge when receiving the front part of the firearm upon introduction thereof into the compartment (1);
    said compartment configured to receive the front part or the barrel of the firearm in the holding member (2);
    a locking mechanism (4) for fixing the firearm in a closed position by locking the firearm in the trigger area of the firearm;
    an actuator (5) in the compartment interior operable to unlock and lock the firearm, said actuator (5) effecting movement of the locking mechanism (4); and a personal feature recognition device associated with said actuator (5) and initiating unlatching of the door when exposed to said feature of an authorized user.
    In one embodiment of the invention the locking mechanism (4) comprises a bar that is moveable by the actuator (5) into and from the trigger area of the firearm.
    In another embodiment of the invention the locking mechanism (4) comprises a latch mechanism (4) for latching the firearm in a closed position by locking the firearm in the trigger area of the firearm; an actuator (5) in the compartment interior operable to unlatch the firearm, said actuator (5) effecting movement of a latch mechanism (4) to and from the closed position.

    The personal feature recognition device is preferably a fingerprint recognition device whereby placement of an authorized user's fingerprint onto the device actuates said actuator.
    Additional details and preferred embodiments of the present invention are disclosed in the detailed description of the invention.
    BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
    Figure 1A shows a perspective view of one embodiment of the gun box before entering the gun/firearm.
    Figure 1B shows the same view as in Figure 1A except that the gun/firearm has been introduced into the box and secured therein.
    Figure 2A shows an upper view of the interior of the box before the gun/firearm has been introduced.
    Figure 2B shows the same view as in Figure 2A except that the gun/firearm has been introduced into the box.
    Figure 3 shows perspective view of the interior of the box before (left) and after (right) the gun/firearm has been introduced into the box.
    Figure 4 shows a view of another embodiment of the gun box.
    DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
    Referring to figures 1-3 the present invention concerns one embodiment of a new box for safely storage of a firearm. Figure 3 shows the details of the interior of the gun box shown in Figures 1A and 1B. There is shown how the firearm/gun is introduced into the interior over a support member (7) for supporting the lower portion of a front part of the firearm. As
    DK 2017 70556 A1 appears from Figures 2A, 2B, and 3 the holding member (2) receives the front part of the firearm and thereby supports the upper portion and the side portions thereof. This is achieved by the holding member since it has hinge (3) and thereby opens when receiving the front part of the firearm upon introduction thereof. Figures 2A, 2B, and 3 also show the latch mechanism (4) for latching the firearm in a closed position by locking the firearm in the trigger area of the firearm. For that event to take place an actuator (5) is operable to latch and unlatch the firearm, where the actuator (5) effects movement of a latch mechanism (4) to and from the closed position. In order to ensure proper use of the present invention a personal feature recognition device, such as a finger print detector, is associated with said actuator (5) and initiating unlatching of the door when exposed to said feature, such as a finger print, of an authorized user.
    The box may be removably securable to a substantially non-movable member, such as a floor, and is preferably provided with a locking feature to releasably lock the box to the substantially non-movable member.
    Referring to Figure 4 there is shown another embodiment of the present invention, wherein the locking mechanism (4) comprises a latch mechanism (4) for latching the firearm in a closed position by locking the firearm in the trigger area of the firearm; an actuator (5) in the compartment interior operable to unlatch the firearm, said actuator (5) effecting movement of a latch mechanism (4) to and from the closed position.

    Claims (9)
    [1] 1. A box for safely storage of a firearm comprising:
    a compartment (1) having bottom, sides and top joined together and defining a space for receiving a part of the firearm, said compartment having a front with an opening to the interior of the compartment;
    a support member (7) for supporting the lower portion of a front part of the firearm, a holding member (2) for receiving the front part of the firearm and supporting the upper portion and the side portions of the front part of the firearm, said holding member having a hinge (3) and being pivotal about said hinge when receiving the front part of the firearm upon introduction thereof into the compartment (1);
    said compartment configured to receive the front part or the barrel of the firearm in the holding member (2);
    a locking mechanism (4) for fixing the firearm in a closed position by locking the firearm in the trigger area of the firearm;
    an actuator (5) in the compartment interior operable to unlock and lock the firearm, said actuator (5) effecting movement of the locking mechanism (4); and a personal feature recognition device associated with said actuator (5) and initiating unlatching of the door when exposed to said feature of an authorized user.
    [2] 2. A box according to in claim 1, wherein the locking mechanism (4) comprises a bar that is moveable by the actuator (5) into and from the trigger area of the firearm.

A box according to in claim 1, wherein the locking mechanism (4) comprises a latch mechanism (4) for latching the firearm in a closed position by locking the firearm in the trigger area of the firearm; an actuator (5) in the compartment interior operable to unlatch the firearm, said actuator (5) effecting movement of a latch mechanism (4) to and from the closed position.
    [4] 4. A box according to in claim 3, wherein a spring mechanism (6) is used to activate the latch mechanism (4).
    [5] 5. A box according to any one of the claims 1-3, wherein the personal feature recognition device is a fingerprint recognition device whereby placement of an authorized user's fingerprint onto the device actuates said actuator.

    [6] 6. A box according to any one of the claims 1-5, wherein the box is securable to a substantially non-movable member.
    [7] 7. A box according to claim 6, wherein said box is removably securable to the
    5 substantially non-movable member, and provided with a locking feature to releasably lock said box to the substantially non-movable member.
    [8] 8. A box according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the support member (7) is provided with a track guiding the firearm correctly along the support member (7).
    [9] 9. A box according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein a sensor that detects when the firearm is correctly placed in the compartment for being locked by the latch mechanism (4).
    15 10. A box according to any one of the preceding claims further comprising an alarm device for alerting when a person attempts to remove the firearm without having access rights.
