ICE CREAM MACHINE. A METHOD FOR PRODUCING AN ICE CREAM PRODUCT USING AN ICE CREAM MACHINE. AND AN ICE CREAM
PRODUCT
Technical field
The invention relates to an ice cream machine and a method for producing an ice cream product using an ice cream machine. The invention also relates to an ice cream product.
Background art
In the ice cream producing industry ice cream, or an ice cream mixture, is used to produce ice cream products. In the process, the ice cream is extruded through an extrusion nozzle and subsequently cut into ice cream products by means of a cutting tool. The cutting tool may e.g. be a knife or a scrape. Additionally, an ice cream stick is often inserted into the ice cream to produce so called ice cream lollies. Thereafter, the ice cream products can be put on a conveyer tray or conveyer belt for further transport to e.g. packaging and storing.
Some ice creams comprise inclusions or particles. These inclusions may cause a problem for the positioning of the stick in the ice cream as the inclusions may be located in a portion of the ice cream where the stick is to be inserted. Thus, the inclusions may cause a misplacement of the stick in the ice cream. Even if no inclusions are present in the ice cream mixture, a stick inserter arranged to insert the stick into the ice cream, may cause the sticks to be offset compared to its intentional position in the ice cream product. This may in turn cause the ice cream products to be misplaced on the conveyer tray.
Furthermore, even if no stick is included in the ice cream, the ice cream product may be misplaced on the conveyer tray due to e.g. a blunt or dull cutting tool hitting an inclusion and causing the ice cream product to unintentionally rotate.
There is thus a need for improving the state of the art to provide for an ice cream machine which at least partly solves these problems.
Summary of thø invention
It is an object of the present invention to improve the current state of the art, to solve the above problems, and to provide an improved ice cream machine.
According to a first aspect of the invention, these and other objects are achieved in full, or at least in part, by an ice cream machine for producing an ice cream product. The ice crean machine comprises a first channel and second channel, said second channel being arranged within said first channel, a mould attached to said first channel and adapted to form said ice cream product, and a regulator arranged within said ice cream machine. The regulator is movable between a first position and a second position to control the cross-sectional area of at least one of said first channel and said second channel. By controlling the cross-sectional area of the channels (or at least one of the channels) in the ice cream machine, it is also possible to control the flow of ice cream from the first channel and the second channel, respectively, into the mould. Thus, by feeding a flow of ice cream with particles through the first channel and a flow of ice cream without particles through the second channel, different types of predetermined pattern may be created for the ice cream product.
In a preferred embodiment, the first channel and the second channel has an inner wall and an outer wall, respectively. Further, a first flow line is defined between the inner wall of the first channel and the outer wall of the second channel, and a second flow line is defined by the inner wall of the second channel. Here, the regulator is adapted to control the cross-sectional area of the first channel and the second channel simultaneously and in counter-phase by means of its movement between the first position and the second position.
When the first flow line feeds ice cream with particles to the mould, and the second flow line feeds ice cream without particles to the mould, the ice cream product will be formed to comprise a first portion with particles and a second portion without particles in accordance with the predetermined pattern. By regulating the flow in each channel and the movement of the regulator, different types of desired pattern may be achieved for the final ice cream product.
The regulator may for example by a piston which is movable in a transversal direction of the ice cream machine. Further, the second channel may be coaxially arranged within said first channel. This is a cost efficient and space saving solution for the ice cream machine.
According to a second aspect of the invention, the objects are achieved in full, or at least in part, by a method for producing an ice cream product using an ice cream machine. The ice cream machine comprises a first channel and second channel, said second channel being arranged within said first channel, a mould attached to said first channel, and a regulator arranged within said ice cream machine. The method comprising the steps of providing a first flow of ice cream with particles through said first channel into said mould, providing a second flow of ice cream without particles through said second channel into said mould, and regulating the flow rate of at least one of said first flow of ice cream and said second flow of ice cream by means of said regulator, such that said ice cream product is formed to comprise a first portion with particles and a second portion without particles in accordance with a predetermined pattern. The same advantages as described for the ice cream machine above also apply for the method. However, note that the method may be used for any suitable device or system and is not limited to use in the ice cream machine disclosed herein.
The method may further comprise the step of providing a stick into the second portion of said ice cream product, and the step of cutting the ice cream product, primarily through the second portion, to form a finish shaped ice cream product with a stick. Since the second portion of the ice cream product includes none or a very small amount of particles, the insertion of the stick as well as the cutting of the ice cream will not be affected by the particles present in the ice cream product.
In a preferred embodiment of the method, the step of regulating the flow rate of at least one of the first flow of ice cream and the second flow of ice cream comprises pulsating the first flow ice cream and the second flow of ice cream in opposite phase to each other.
According to a third aspect of the invention, the objects are achieved in full, or at least in part, by an ice cream product, manufactured by means of the ice cream machine described above and/or using the method described above.
Generally, all terms used in the claims are to be interpreted according to their ordinary meaning in the technical field, unless explicitly defined otherwise herein. All references to “a/an/the [element, device, component, means, step, etc.]” are to be interpreted openly as referring to at least one instance of said element, device, component, means, step, etc., unless explicitly stated otherwise.

The above objects, as well as additional objects, features and advantages of the present invention, will be more fully appreciated by reference to the following illustrative and non-limiting detailed description of preferred embodiments of the present invention, when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 and 2 are perspective views of an ice cream machine according to an exemplary embodiment of a first aspect of the invention.
Fig. 3 is a flow chart of a method for producing an ice cream product according to an exemplary embodiment of a second aspect of the invention.
Fig. 4a is a cross-sectional view of the ice cream product according to an exemplary embodiment of a third aspect of the invention.
Fig. 4b is another cross-sectional view of the ice cream product according to a further exemplary embodiment of the third aspect of the invention.
Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view of the ice cream product before being cut off to form its final shape.
Detailed description of preferred embodiments of the invention
Fig. 1 and 2 illustrate an ice cream machine 1 for producing an ice cream product 2. The ice cream amchine 1 comprises a first channel 3, a second channel 4 which is partly arranged within the first channel 3, a mould 5 to form the ice cream product 2, and a regulator 6 arranged within the ice cream machine 1. The first channel 3 has an inlet 7 and an outlet 8, the outlet 7 being attached to an upper portion of the mould 5. The second channel 4 has an inlet 9 and an outlet 10, the outlet 10 being attached to regulator 6 which in turn in connection with the upper portion of the mould 5. A first flow linel 1 is defined between the inner wall of the first channel 3 and the outer wall of the second channel 4, and a second flow line 12 is defined by the inner wall of the second channel 4. The first flow line 11 feeds ice cream with particles or inclusions into the mould 5, and the second flow line 12 feeds ice cream without particles or inclusions into the mould 5. In this embodiment, the regulator 6 is constituted by a piston. The piston 6 is movable between the first and second position in the ice cream machine 1 to control the cross-sectional area of the cross-sectional area of the first flow line 11 and second flow line 12. When the piston 6 is in the first position (as shown in Fig. 2), the cross-sectional area of the first flow line 11 is maximised and the cross-sectional area of the second flow line 12 minimised. When the piston 6 is in the second position, the cross-sectional area of the first flow line 11 is minimised and the cross-sectional area of the second flow line 12 maximised. In other words, when the piston 6 is in the first position, the flow of ice cream from the first flow line 11 into the mould 5 is larger than the flow of ice cream from the second flow line 12 into the mould 5. The opposite applies when the piston 6 is in the second position. Thus, the piston 6 will control the cross-sectional area of the first flow line 11 and the second flow line 12 simultaneously and in counter-phase. Since the feed of ice cream with particles or inclusions and the feed of ice cream without particles or inclusions into the mould 5 can be controlled, the ice cream product 2 can be formed to comprise a first portion 13 with particles and a second portion 14 without particles in accordance with a predetermined pattern.
In Fig. 3, a flow chart of a method for producing an ice cream product 2 is illustrated. The method comprises the steps of providing a first flow of ice cream with particles through a first channel 3 into a mould 5, providing a second flow of ice cream without particles through a second channel 4 into the mould 5, regulating the flow rate of at least one of the first flow of ice cream and the second flow of ice cream by means of a regulator 6, forming the ice cream product 2 with a first portion 13 with particles and a second portion 14 without particles in accordance with a predetermined pattern, providing a stick 15 into the second portion 14 of the ice cream product 2, and cutting the ice cream product 2, primarily through the second portion 14 to form a final shaped ice cream product.
Fig. 4a illustrates an exemplary ice cream product 2, manufactured by means of the ice cream machine 1 described above and/or using the method described above. The ice cream product 2 comprises a first portion 13 with particles and a second portion 14 without particles in accordance with a predetermined pattern. The ice cream product 2 has also been provided with an ice cream stick 15 in the second portion 14 that is without particles.
Fig 4b illustrates another exemplary ice cream product 2, manufactured by means of the ice cream machine 1. The ice cream product 2 comprises a first portion 13 with particles and a second portion 14 without particles in accordance with a predetermined pattern. The ice cream product 2 has also been provided with an ice cream stick 15 in the second portion 14 that is without particles. In this case, however, the first flow line 11 feeds ice cream without particles or inclusions into the mould 5, and the second flow line 12 feeds ice cream with particles or inclusions into the mould 5.
Fig. 5 illustrates ice cream product 2, manufactured by means of the ice cream machine 1, before being cut off in order to form its final shape. The ice cream product 2 comprises a first portion 13 with particles and a second portion 14 without particles in accordance with a predetermined pattern.
The skilled person realizes that a number of modifications of the embodiments described herein are possible without departing from the scope of the invention, which is defined in the appended claims.
For instance, the flow rate of the flow of ice cream may be varied as well as the size and shape of the components included in the ice cream machine.
