Description TECHNICAL FIELD [0001] The present invention relates to an operable ring that can be used, for example, as a key ring, as a jewelery item or as a connecting ring for technical applications.
STATE OF THE ART [0002] The currently available commercial rings are generally in the form of a main segment in the shape of an arc whose two ends are interconnected by a clasp. In a closed position of the ring, the clasp prevents an opening being formed between said ends. A key or other object sliding along the main segment can not escape the ring. Conversely, in the case where a key or other object is to be removed from the ring or added to the ring, the clasp must be manually openable to create a passage between said ends, thereby allowing withdrawal or introduction of said key or said object. In a typical configuration of this type of open ring, the clasp is in the form of an arcuate segment pivotally connected at one of its ends to the main segment of the ring and extending substantially between the two ends of the main segment in the closed position of the ring so that the ring has an uninterrupted circumference. Such a configuration has in particular been described in patent application GB 483 137.
One of the disadvantages of this configuration is not to provide sufficient security against unintentional opening of the ring since the clasp can rotate very easily by simple pressure or traction exerted on its free end. The ring can therefore open accidentally, thus causing the possible loss of a key or an object that was hooked.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION [0004] The present invention therefore aims to provide an openable ring for solving the aforementioned problem.
For this purpose, according to the invention, there is provided an openable ring as defined in claim 1.
Other important features of the openable ring of the present invention are also defined in the dependent claims 2 to 13.
The thus configured open ring will prevent untimely opening occurs at the closing segments. Indeed, the opening of the first closing segment can be done only if the second closing segment is itself open. This need to act successively and sequentially on two separate closure elements of the ring to allow its opening will eliminate any risk of loss of objects attached to the ring.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS [0008] Other advantages and features of the present invention will be better understood on reading several particular embodiments of the invention and with reference to the drawings in which: FIG. 1a is a perspective view of an opening ring according to the invention in its open position; fig. 1b is a perspective view of the openable ring of FIG. 1a in its partially secure closed position; figs. 1c, 1d, 1e are respectively perspective, top and front views of the openable ring of FIG. 1a in its fully secure closure position; figs. 2a, 2b, 2c are respectively perspective, front and top views of the main segment of the ring shown in FIG. 1a; figs. 2b1,2b2 are respectively enlarged views of details A and C of FIG. 2b; figs. 3a, 3b respectively represent perspective and front views of the first closing segment of the openable ring of FIG. 1a; figs. 4a, 4b, 4c show respectively perspective, front and bottom views of the second closing segment of the openable ring of FIG. 1a.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF AN EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION [0009] Before describing in more detail the various constituent parts of the ring shown in FIGS. 1a to 1e, the meaning of several terms used in the following paragraphs should be clarified. The term "plane P" refers to the median plane that separates the ring into two substantially identical halves in its fully secure closed position (as shown in Fig. 1d). The terms "radial direction" or "radially" refer to a direction which is aligned with the center of the annular shape formed by the ring in its fully secure closure position. Since the ring has a certain thickness, it can also be likened to a cylinder of revolution in its fully secure closure position. As a result, the center of the ring can be defined by an "axial direction".
[0010] Referring to FIG. 1a, there is shown a working ring according to the present invention in a so-called opening position.
The ring 1 comprises a main segment 10 in the form of a circular arc on which are pivotally connected two closure segments, respectively a first closure segment 20 and a second closure segment 30, also in the form of arches of the circle. In the position shown in FIG. 1a, the first and second closing segments 20 and 30 are arranged so as to leave an opening 2 between the two ends 11 and 12 of the main segment 10, thus allowing the introduction of an object into the interior of the ring. In a position of the ring, said partially secure closure position, shown in FIG. 1b, the first closing segment 20 will have pivoted with respect to the position shown in FIG. 1a to come into line with the plane P defined above, thus closing the free space separating the two ends 11, 12. The object or objects previously introduced inside the ring will therefore no longer escape. In another position of the ring, said fully secure closure position, shown in Figs. 1c, 1d and 1e, the second closure segment 30 will in turn pivoted with respect to this partially secured closure position to completely cover the first closure segment 20 and form with the main segment 10 a quasi-perfect annular shape. In this position, the second closure segment 30 will therefore prevent any pivoting of the first closure segment 20 about its axis.
As shown in FIGS. 2a, 2b and 2c, the main segment 10 is substantially aligned in the plane P and extends about 290 ° between its two ends, namely the first end 11 and the second end 12. It is defined in particular by two front edges 10a, 10b parallel to the plane P and two side edges 10c, 10d extending perpendicular to the plane P.
As is illustrated in detail in FIG. 2b1, the first end 11 is configured to partially accommodate the respective pivot axes of the first and second closure segments 20 and 30. For this purpose, it comprises, in a distal portion 11d, two tabs 13 oriented perpendicularly to the plane P and distant in a radial direction. Each of the lugs 13 is pierced with a hole 14 intended to partially accommodate an axis (not shown) around which the first closing segment 20 pivots. The holes 14 are arranged in such a way as to orient said axis in a radial direction XX '. parallel to the plane P. The radial spacing between the tabs 13 accommodates an end portion 21 of the first closure segment (see Fig. 3a). The tabs 13 advantageously have a curved free edge 13a, the curvature of said edge being complementary to that of an edge 22a of a central portion 22 which is adjacent to the end portion 21 (see Fig. 3a) so as to allow the pivoting of the first end segment 20 around the direction XX '. A proximal portion 11p of the first end 11 is provided with a through hole 15 oriented in a direction YY 'perpendicular to the plane P, said hole being configured to partially accommodate an axis (not shown) around which pivots the second closure segment 30 The proximal portion 11p and the distal portion 11d are further formed such that they are slightly recessed from the front edges 10a, 10b, as well as the side edge 10c with respect to the distal portion 11d. The junction zone between the portions 11p, 11d and the front edge 10a, respectively 10b, forms a bearing edge 16 against which abuts the second closure segment 30 in the fully secure closure position of the ring. These bearing edges 16 have in particular a curvature at the proximal portion 11 p so as to allow the pivoting of the second closure segment 30 around the direction YY '.
As illustrated in detail in FIG. 2b2, the second end 12 is configured to accommodate, in the partially secured closure position of the ring, an end portion 23 of the first closure segment 20, which is adjacent to the central portion 22 and oppositely disposed by relative to the end portion 21 (see Fig. 3a). For this purpose, it comprises, in a distal portion 12d, a cavity 17 opening on the front edge 10a and on a radial edge 10e, said cavity having a shape substantially complementary to that of the end portion 23. The second end 12 further comprises a proximal portion 12p which is provided with a recess 19 on each of its faces oriented parallel to the plane P, said recesses being intended, as explained below, to receive corresponding protuberances 36 formed at an internal face side walls 31, 33 of the second closure segment 30 in the fully secured closure position of the ring (see Fig. 4c), thereby temporarily securing the second closure segment to the main segment. The second end 12 is also formed to be slightly recessed with respect to the front edges 10a, 10b, as well as the side edge 10c. The junction zone between the portions 12p, 12d and the front edge 10a, respectively 10b, forms a support edge 18 against which abuts the second closure segment 30 in the fully secure closure position of the ring.

Claims (13)
[1]
As shown in FIGS. 3a, 3b, the first closing segment 20 is in the form of a curved arch having a central portion 22 disposed between two end portions, respectively first and second end portions 21,23. The first end portion 21 is configured to be housed between the two lugs 13 of the main segment 10 and is provided with a through hole 24 intended to partially accommodate a pivot axis (not shown) integral with the main segment 10, as explained above, thus allowing the pivoting of said hoop around the direction XX '. The end portion 23 is configured to be housed inside the cavity 17 of the main segment 10 in the partially secured closure position of the ring. The central portion 22 also has a bearing edge 25 formed along each of its faces which are arranged perpendicularly to the plane P in the partially secured closure position of the ring. These bearing edges 25 are configured to come into alignment with the bearing edges 16 and 18 of the main segment 10 in the partially secured closure position of the ring. As explained above, the second closure segment 30 abuts against said support edges 16, 18 and 25 in the fully secure closure position of the ring. In addition, said support edge 25 advantageously has a zone 26 of smaller width. Thus, when the ring has to move from its fully secure closed position to its partially secured closure position, it is easier for the user to lift the second closure segment 30 which rests on the support edge 25 by positioning its fingers at said area 26 and pressing the portion of the side walls 31,33 of the closure segment 30 which protrudes from said zone 26. As shown in FIGS. 4a, 4b and 4c, the second closure segment 30 is in the form of a curved arch having an inverted U-shaped cross section. It comprises in particular a bottom wall 32 connecting the two side walls 31, 33, each of the side walls 31, 33 being provided with a through hole 34 intended, as previously, to partially accommodate a pivot axis (not shown) integral with said main segment 10, thus allowing said hoop to pivot about the direction YY '. The side walls 31,33 and the bottom wall 32 define an internal cavity 35 configured to completely house the first closure segment 20 in the fully secure closure position of the ring. As seen above, two protuberances 36 formed at the inner faces of the side walls 31,33 are intended to be housed inside the corresponding recesses 19 of the main segment 10 in the fully secure closure position of the ring. The particular configuration which has just been described with reference to FIGS. 1a to 4c is obviously only one possible embodiment of the invention.
