Description TECHNICAL FIELD [0001] The present invention relates to a set of assemblies comprising a plurality of wooden insert elements. A particularity of the invention is that the elements, of elongate shape, have a common cross section, with grooves of standardized dimensions, and that the width of the groove is determined with respect to the transverse dimensions of the elements so as to be able to assemble the elements between them square, end, or side to side.
STATE OF THE ART [0002] Several assembly sets are known which make it possible to produce a plurality of structures by embedding and without tools, or with a very limited number of simple tools.
For example, the document US Pat. No. 3,597,875 describes a well-known construction set which is based on bricks that can be inserted by means of coupling pins.
A limitation of this type of known games is that the strength of the recesses requires parts made with reduced tolerances. This level of precision is achievable by plastic injection techniques, for example, but it is difficult to obtain such levels of accuracy on parts made of wood or a recyclable material.
Another limitation of much of the known assembly games is that the parts can be united only one way, or in a limited number of configurations. This limits the freedom of assembly, and requires to match a large number of disparate pieces.
Games are also known based on the assembly of a set of identical wooden boards. These games are particularly appreciated for their use of natural and recyclable materials and the simplicity of the assembly. The boards of these games can be juxtaposed, superimposed and combined in any way, because there are no predetermined embedding to respect. However, it is difficult to obtain solid constructions by these means.
Some assembly games provide that the parts are united by fasteners such as nuts or dowels. This form of assembly is certainly solid but it provides for the use of a number of specialized parts and tools.
[0008] EP 0 934 768 discloses a building block system based on profiled elements with an "H" section dimensioned so as to allow several possibilities of embedding and assembly. This system, however, does not make it easy to make assemblies with a large number of inclined pieces, or tracks for rolling toys.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [0009] An object of the present invention is however to propose a set of assemblies which does not have the disadvantages enumerated above.
According to the invention, these objects are achieved in particular by means of the subject matter of claim 1.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES [0011] Examples of implementation of the invention are indicated in the description illustrated by the appended figures in which:
Fig. 1 illustrates a building block according to one aspect of the invention with two grooves:
Fig. 1a illustrates a variant of the building block of FIG. 1;
Figs. 2a and 2b show the section of the block of FIG. 1;
Fig. 3 shows a block variant according to the invention comprising assembly holes;
Fig. 4 illustrates a union element;
Fig. 5 illustrates another variant of building block with four grooves;
Figs. 6a and 6b illustrate two views the same building block, to see the upper face, comprising a curved groove, respectively the lower face having straight grooves;
Fig. 6c illustrates a variant of the building block of FIGS. 6a-b
Fig. 7 illustrates a building block having two identical grooves on the two opposite upper and lower faces, each comprising rectilinear and curvilinear edges;
Fig. 8 illustrates an assembly of building blocks according to the invention;
Fig. 9 illustrates an assembly of building blocks involving fixing pins;
Fig. 10 illustrates a track for rolling toys made from the assembly blocks of the invention.
In the figures, the same reference sign is used to indicate identical elements, or functionally equivalent. On the other hand, it was decided not to mark all the elements with a reference sign, where this did not interfere with the understanding, so as not to weigh down the drawings.
Example (s) of Embodiment of the Invention [0013] FIG. 1 illustrates a building block according to one aspect of the present invention, while FIGS. 2 and 2a show its cross section. The building block 15 has an elongated substantially parallelepipedal shape and an "H" shaped section. The block has two grooves 12 on two opposite faces; each groove 12 is delimited laterally by two tabs 13 of equal width "a", the sum of the widths of the two tongues 13 is essentially identical to the width "2a" of the groove, so that two tongues of two juxtaposed blocks can be recess perfectly and parallel in the groove of a third block. Furthermore, the width of the sides 14 which connect the two opposite faces having the grooves 12 is also equal to the width "2a" of the grooves, thus allowing to embed one side of a block in the groove of another block.
As can be seen in FIG. 2, the end face 19 is inscribed in a rectangle of dimension "2a x 4a" and it can also be embedded in the groove of another block. In this way we can not only unite two or three blocks parallel, but also square, as will be seen better later. The length "b" of the building block is preferably an integer multiple of the width "a" of the tongue or, better, an integer multiple of the width "2a" of the sides or the width "4a" of the end face.
Preferably, the grooves 12 have a dovetail profile, as shown in the detail figure 2a. Tests have shown that a convergence angle "a" of a few degrees of the internal flanks 12a, 12b, allows stronger assemblies without excessively increasing the required insertion force.
The building block of Figs. 1-2 also has two longitudinal slots 11 on the sides 14. These slots, which are optional, allow a slight elastic deformation of the block and also contribute to improving the strength of the assemblies. They could also be made, with the same function, on the tongues 13 or in the bottom of the groove 12.
The invention can be made of any material. However, its shape is likely to be manufactured by the usual carpentry techniques. It is therefore preferably made of wood.
Figure la illustrates a possible variant of the building block of the invention which is characterized, in addition, by the presence of two notches 29 on the end faces. The notches 29 have the same width "2a" as the groove 12 and can also accommodate the side 14 of another building block, or two tabs 13 of two other paired building blocks, thus increasing the possibilities of assembly. Figs. 8 and 9 will show some assemblies involving building blocks 25 according to this variant.
The building block 20 shown in FIG. 3 comprises a plurality of holes in the groove 17, as well as holes 16 in the sides 14 and holes 18 in the end faces 19. As will be seen later, these holes can accommodate fastening elements, for example pegs or nuts, to secure the union of two or more building blocks. It is not essential, in the context of the invention, that the building blocks have all shown here and could very well have one or more holes in the groove 12 and / or in the sides 14 and / or in the end faces. 19 and / or in the tabs 13.
FIG. 5 shows a possible embodiment of a fastener 30 with a double dowel 26, usable for joining two end-to-end building blocks, for example, as can be seen in FIG. 10.
The building blocks of the invention are not limited to having two grooves. Fig. 5 shows for example a block with four grooves 12 opposite in pairs, whose dimensions allow the assembly with the blocks 15 and 20 described previously. The assembly set of the invention may also include building blocks with one, three, five, or any number of grooves.
FIG. 8 illustrates an assembly of blocks of the same section 15, 40 and illustrates part of the assembly possibilities available. It is observed that one can achieve parallel assemblies, brackets or inclined with identical blocks 15. Four blocks 40 shorter, juxtaposed in pairs, provide a solid mounting platform.
The assembly of FIG. 9 illustrates another combination of assemblies which makes use in the base of four elements with holes 20 assembled by the pins 37. On this basis, the elements 15 are assembled without other fasteners.
According to another aspect of the invention, the building set comprises, with the straight elements described above, also curved elements, for making tracks with turns to roll trains, car models, or other rolling toys. Figs. 6a-c and 7 show possible variants of this aspect. Importantly, the curved elements comprise curvilinear grooves, delimited by curved tongues, to achieve the actual path, and straight edges and grooves, or at least segments of grooves and ridges which are straight and which consent the assembly with straight construction elements.
Figs. 6a-6b illustrate a first variant of this concept. In this case the curve has on one side, at the top in FIG. 6a, a curved groove 121 delimited by two curved tongues 131. This face is intended to provide the rails or the running surface.
The opposite face, which serves for assembly with other compatible elements, is visible in FIG. 6b. It comprises two straight grooves 12, identical to those described in relation to the elements 15 and 20.
In the variant of FIG. 7, on the other hand, the two opposite faces carry identical grooves and tongues, but the groove on each face is curved in a central section 121 and straight in two sections 132 at the ends, thus allowing the assembly of other compatible elements.
Fig. 6c illustrates another variant of building block for making a turn. This element is preferably made in one piece and has, when it is placed on the construction plane 150 to form an element of a track, a height "h" equal to that of an assembly of straight elements superimposed parallel on two levels. This eliminates the need to add support blocks, as required for turns made from blocks 6a-b and 7. Similar to the other corner blocks, block 95 also has curved grooves 121 and curved tabs 131, as well as sections of straight grooves delimited by straight tabs 132, allowing the assembly.
Fig. 10 illustrates an assembly with turns to form a track segment. The rectilins are formed with straight building blocks 20, placed on a base formed by other parallel elements 15,20. The turns are obtained by combining shaped elements as shown in FIGS. 6a-b with a turn angle of 45 ° or 90 °. Straight elements 15 are embedded in the straight grooves and form bases supporting the track. The whole of fig. 10 also comprises a turn made with a part 95 according to the variant of FIG. 6c, which does not need support elements.
Tests have shown that it is possible to obtain a satisfactory stability track by simply embedding the parallel parts 15,20, 45, 90. If one seeks more strength, can be added the double dowels 30.
