Field of Invention
[0001] The present invention relates to an assembled product, such as a box or a drawer, a furniture component or a furniture, and a method for assembling the product. The assembled product is provided with a locking device comprising a flexible tongue. Technical Background
[0002] A furniture provided with a mechanical locking system is known, for example, in the patent document WO 2012/154113 (A1). The furniture comprises a first panel connected perpendicular to a second panel by a mechanical locking system comprising a flexible tongue in an insertion groove. Invention Summary
[0003] An objective of certain embodiments of the present invention is to provide an improvement over the techniques described above and the known technique. A specific objective is to improve the method for assembling a furniture product.
[0004] A further object of the embodiments of the invention consists in the provision of a set of panels for an assembled product, such as a so-called furniture product packaged in a package, which is configured to be assembled without tools and a method of assembling the product.
[0005] At least some of these and other objectives and advantages that will be apparent from the description have been achieved by a first aspect of the invention which comprises a set of panels for an assembled product. The set of panels is provided with one or more locking devices. Each locking device comprises a flexible tongue disposed in an insertion groove in an edge of a panel, said flexible tongue cooperating with a tongue groove in an adjacent edge of an adjacent panel to lock the panel and the panel. adjacent to each other. The locking device is configured in such a way that the edge and adjacent edge can be connected by hand. The set of panels comprises at least four panels of the frame which are configured to be connected to each other at adjacent edges by at least one of said locking devices to obtain a frame, preferably of rectangular shape. The set of panels comprises a fifth panel, such as a rear or bottom panel, which is configured to be connected to a rear or lower edge of the frame by at least one of said locking devices.
[0006] The fifth panel is preferably configured to be connected to a rear or lower edge of two or more of the frame panels, by at least one of said locking devices on each of said rear or lower edge of said two or more panels of the frame.
[0007] The locking devices may comprise a grooved edge section on the panel or on the adjacent panel. An edge section of the other of the panel or of the adjacent panel may cooperate with said edge groove to lock the panel and adjacent panel together. The flexible tongue and the tongue groove cooperate to lock the panel and adjacent panel together in a first direction and the edge section and the edge section groove cooperate to lock the panel and adjacent panel together in a second direction, perpendicular to the first direction.
[0008] The edge section can be provided with a calibrating groove.
[0009] The panels can be plastic or wood fiber. For example, the panels can be plastic panels or wood fiber based boards, for example HDF boards, particle boards or solid wood boards. Panels can be provided with a decorative layer.
[0010] The assembled product can be a furniture component or a furniture, such as a drawer, a cabinet, a bookcase, a wardrobe, a kitchen appliance, or a storage or transport box.
[0011] The insertion groove of at least one of said locking devices may extend along essentially the entire length of the panel edge (eg at least 80% of the panel length).
[0012] The tongue groove of at least one of said locking devices may extend along essentially the entire length of the adjacent edge of the adjacent panel (eg at least 80% of the length of the adjacent panel).
[0013] A tongue groove and an insertion groove extending along essentially the entire width of the panel and the adjacent panel (eg at least 80% of the width of the adjacent panel), respectively, can facilitate the production of the groove. of tongue and insertion groove. The tongue groove and the insert groove can be produced by moving the panel and the adjacent panel, respectively, by passing a mechanical cutting tool such as a fixed milling cutter.
[0014] Some of the panels may be provided with a dismounting groove in any of the locking devices, wherein said dismounting groove or recess is preferably adapted for insertion of a dismounting tool. The dismount tool can be inserted into the dismount groove or recess to unlock the locking device.
[0015] A second aspect of the invention consists of a method for assembling a set of panels to obtain an assembled product, the method comprising: • arranging a first panel, with a main first plane, perpendicular to a second panel with a master plane, where the first master plane is perpendicular to the second master plane, • connecting, by hand, a first edge of the first panel to a first edge of the second panel, by linearly displacing the first and/or second panel panel; • the arrangement of a third panel, with a third principal plane perpendicular to the first and second panels, the third principal plane perpendicular to the first and second principal planes; and • connecting, by hand, a second edge of the third panel to a second edge of the second panel, by linearly displacing the third panel and/or the second panel.
[0016] The method may also comprise the step of connecting, by hand, a first edge of the third panel to a second edge of the first panel, by linearly displacing the third panel and/or the first panel.
[0017] The method can also comprise the steps of arranging a fourth panel, with a fourth main plane, perpendicular to the first and third panels, in which the fourth main plane is parallel to the second main plane, and the connection, by hands, from a first edge of a fourth panel to a third edge of the first panel by linearly displacing the fourth panel and/or the first panel.
[0018] The method can also comprise the step of connecting, by hand, a third edge of the third panel to a second edge of the fourth panel, by linearly displacing the third panel and/or the fourth panel.
[0019] The method can also comprise the steps of arranging a fifth panel, with a fifth main plane, perpendicular to the third and fourth panels, in which the fifth main plane is parallel to the first main plane, and the connection, by hands, from a first edge of the fifth panel to a third edge of the second panel, and a third edge of a fifth panel to a third edge of the fourth panel, by linearly displacing the fifth panel and/or the second and fourth panels.
[0020] The set of panels can comprise at least five panels, each connection step comprising the linear displacement of one of the five panels.
[0021] The set of panels under the second aspect may comprise modalities of the locking device described for use with the first aspect.
[0022] Each linear displacement can be performed in a direction parallel to the third principal plane.
[0023] Each connecting step may comprise a displacement of a portion of a flexible pawl of a locking device, wherein a portion of the flexible pawl is moved to a pawl groove to lock an edge to an adjacent edge.
[0024] Each connection step may comprise the connection of two panels in such a way that the panels are mechanically locked together in directions perpendicular to the main plane of each of the two connected panels.
[0025] The panels can be plastic or wood fiber. For example, the panels can be wood fiber based boards, for example HDF boards, particle board or solid wood board, or plastic boards. Panels can be provided with a decorative layer.
The assembled product can be a furniture component or a furniture, such as a drawer, a cabinet, a bookcase, a wardrobe, a kitchen appliance, or a storage or transport box.
[0027] Said linear displacement during the connection of any edge of any one of the first, second, third, fourth or fifth panel, may alternatively be an essential linear displacement.
[0028] The method can be used for assembling the set of panels of the first aspect.
[0029] A third aspect of the invention consists of an assembled product comprising at least three panels arranged in three different planes, in which a first panel is connected essentially perpendicular to a second panel, and a third panel is connected essentially perpendicular to the second panel. The assembled product comprises one or more locking devices, each of which comprises a flexible tongue disposed in an insertion groove in a panel, said flexible tongue cooperating with a tongue groove in an adjacent panel to lock the panel and the adjacent panel on each other. The second edge of the second panel is connected to a second edge of the third panel by a first of said locking devices.
[0030] The panels can be plastic or wood fiber.
[0032] The three planes are preferably essentially perpendicular planes.
[0033] A first edge of the third panel can be connected to a first edge of the first panel by a second of said locking devices. The first panel and the second panel can be a first and a second board, respectively, of a frame, and the third panel can be the back of a bookcase or a wardrobe. The third panel, such as a rear part, connected by the first and the second of said locking devices, can increase the strength of the assembled product. The angle between the first and second panels can be guided by the angle between the first and second edges of the third panel. A bookcase or a wardrobe with perpendicular corners can be easily obtained by embodiments of the invention. The first edge of the third panel can be slidably connected along the first edge of the first panel to simplify assembly and disassembly.
[0034] A first edge of a sixth panel can be connected essentially perpendicular to the first panel, between the second and fourth panels. The sixth panel can be essentially parallel to the second and fourth panels. The first edge of the sixth panel can be connected by a seventh of said locking devices. The flexible tongue of the seventh of said locking devices is preferably arranged in an insertion groove on the first edge of the sixth panel. The sixth panel can be a fixed mounted product shelf, for example a bookcase.
[0035] A fourth panel can be connected essentially perpendicular to the first panel, wherein a third edge of the third panel can be connected to a second edge of the fourth panel by a third of said locking devices.
[0036] The second and fourth panels can be arranged essentially parallel and the third panel can be slidably connected to the second and fourth panels in order to facilitate disassembly.
[0037] A fourth edge of the third panel may be disposed in a groove in a second edge of a fifth panel. The fifth panel can be connected essentially perpendicular to the second and fourth panels.
[0038] The assembled product can be a semi-product for a drawer, without the fifth panel which can be a front panel, and the first, second and fourth panels can be frame plates and the third panel can be the bottom plate. The front panel can be connected essentially perpendicular to the second and fourth panels in the same factory as the semi-finished product, in another factory or in a carpentry shop, or by a carpenter at a construction site.
[0039] A first edge of the fifth panel can be connected to a third edge of the second panel by a quarter of said locking devices, and a third edge of the fifth panel can be connected to a third edge of the fourth panel by a fifth of said devices of locking.
[0040] A first edge of the first panel can be connected to a first edge of the second panel by one-sixth of said locking devices.
[0041] A first edge of a fourth panel can be connected to a third edge of the first panels by a seventh of said locking devices.
[0042] The insertion groove in at least one of said locking devices may extend along essentially the entire length of the panel (eg at least 80% of the length of the panel).
[0043] The tongue groove in at least one of said locking devices may extend along essentially the entire length of the adjacent panel (eg at least 80% of the length of the adjacent panel).
[0044] A tongue groove and an insertion groove that extend along essentially the entire width of the panel and the adjacent panel (eg at least 80% of the width of the adjacent panel), respectively, can facilitate the production of the groove. of tongue and insertion groove. The tongue groove and the insertion groove can be produced by displacing the panel and the adjacent panel, respectively, by passing a fixed milling cutter.
[0045] The flexible tongue, in at least one of said locking devices, can be displaceable in the insertion groove during locking and unlocking of the locking device.
[0046] The locking devices may comprise a groove of the edge section in the panel or in the adjacent panel. One edge section of the other between the panel or the adjacent panel may cooperate with said edge groove to lock the panel and adjacent panel together. The flexible tongue and the tongue groove cooperate to lock the panel and adjacent panel together in a first direction and the edge section and the edge section groove cooperate to lock the panel and adjacent panel together in a second direction, perpendicular to the first direction.
[0047] The edge section can be provided with a calibrating groove.
[0048] The third panel may be provided with a dismounting groove or recess in one or more of said locking devices, wherein said dismounting groove or recess is preferably adapted for insertion of a dismounting tool. The disassembly tool can be inserted into the disassembly groove or recess to unlock the locking device.
[0049] Any one of the first, second, fourth or fifth panel may be provided with a disassembly groove in any of the locking devices, wherein said disassembly groove or recess is preferably adapted for the insertion of a disassemble tool. The disassembly tool can be inserted into the disassembly groove or recess to unlock the locking device.
[0050] The second aspect method can be used for assembling the assembled product. Brief Description of Drawings

[0067] One embodiment of a locking device for locking a panel 4 to an adjacent panel 2 is shown in Figures 1A-B. The panel and adjacent panel may be panels of a furniture that are connected perpendicularly, i.e. with a surface panel main surface perpendicular to an adjacent panel main surface. An edge section 22 of panel 4 is disposed in a groove 21 of edge section of adjacent panel 2 to lock the panel and adjacent panel together in a first direction. The embodiment in Figure 1A comprises a flexible tongue 30 disposed in an insertion groove 20 in the groove 21 of the edge section and a tongue groove 10 in the edge section 22. The embodiment in Figure 1B comprises a flexible tongue 30 disposed in a groove of insert 20 in the edge section 22 and a tongue groove in the groove of the edge section. Flexible tongue 30 and tongue groove 10 cooperate to lock the panel and adjacent panel together in a second direction, which is essentially perpendicular to the first direction. The flexible tongue, during panel and adjacent panel assembly, is inserted into the insertion groove when the edge section is inserted into the groove of the edge section. The flexible tongue goes back and into the tongue groove when the panel and adjacent panel have reached a connected state.
[0068] The panel may be a back of a bookcase or wardrobe and the adjacent panel may be a frame plate. The panel can also be a bottom panel of a drawer and the adjacent panel a frame plate. Furthermore, the panel and the adjacent panel can be a first and a second board, respectively, of a frame of a bookcase, a wardrobe or a drawer. The back and bottom can be an HDF board or a particle board with a thickness of about 2 to 4 mm. Embodiments of the invention may comprise one or more of the locking devices described above.
[0069] Figure 2A shows a furniture, such as a bookcase, which comprises eight of the locking devices, arranged with one side of the frame coverings facing down. The furniture comprises a first panel 1, for example a side of the bookcase, connected at a first edge to a first edge of a second panel 2, for example the top of the bookcase, by one of the locking devices. A first edge of a third panel 4, for example a rectangular back part of the bookcase, is connected to a second edge of the second panel by another of the locking devices. A second edge of the third panel 4 is connected to the second edge of the first panel by another one of said locking devices. A first edge of a fourth panel 5, for example a bottom of the bookcase, is connected to a third edge of the first panel by another of said locking devices. An edge section of a third edge of the third panel 4 may be arranged in a groove of the edge section on a second edge of the fourth panel 5. A first edge of a fifth panel 6, for example a side of the bookcase, is connected to a third edge of the fourth panel 5, by another one of said locking devices, and a third edge of the fifth panel is connected to a third edge of the second panel, by another one of said locking devices. An edge section of a fourth edge of the third panel 4 can be arranged in a groove of the edge section on a second edge of the fifth panel 5. The locking device on each of the first and second edges, respectively, of the third panel may comprise two or more flexible tongues 30. A sixth panel 3, for example a bookcase shelf, which is arranged parallel to the first and fourth panels, is connected, by another of the locking devices, to a first edge to the first to the first panel, and on a third edge it is connected, by another of the locking devices, to the fifth panel. The flexible tongue of the locking device on the first and third edges, respectively, of the sixth panel is preferably disposed on the edge section 22.
[0070] Figure 2B shows a CS 2B cross section of the first panel 1, the third panel 4 and the fifth panel 6. The figure shows that an edge section of the fourth edge of the third panel can be disposed in the groove of the edge section in the second edge of fifth panel 6. Third panel 4 may comprise two or more plates 4a-4d locked by a mechanical locking system. The modalities of the mechanical locking system are shown in Figures 8A-C. A second edge of the fifth panel may be provided with the other locking devices (not shown) for connecting adjacent edges of adjacent boards.
[0071] Figure 2C shows a CS 2C cross section of the second and third panels 2, 4. The third panel is in this embodiment provided with a dismounting groove 33 adapted for the insertion of a dismounting tool, which pushes the flexible tongue to the insertion groove, which facilitates the disassembly of the second and third panels.
[0072] Figure 3A shows a furniture, such as a bookcase, which comprises eight of the locking devices, arranged with one side of the frame facing downwards. An edge section of a second edge of the third panel 4 can be inserted into a groove of the edge section of a second edge of the first panel. A first edge of a fourth panel 5, for example a bottom of the bookcase, is connected to a third edge of the first panel by another of said locking devices. A third edge of the third panel 4 is connected to a second edge of the fourth panel 5 by another one of said locking devices. A first edge of a fifth panel 6, for example a side of the bookcase, is connected to a third edge of the fourth panel 5 by another of said locking devices, and a third edge of the fifth panel is connected to a third edge of the second panel, by another of said locking devices. An edge section of a fourth edge of the third panel 4 can be arranged in a groove of the edge section on a second edge of the fifth panel 5. The locking device on each of the first and third edges, respectively, of the third panel may comprise two or more flexible tongues 30. A sixth panel 3, for example a bookcase shelf, which is arranged parallel to the first and fourth panels, is connected, by another of the locking devices, on a first edge to the first panel, and on a third edge is connected, by another of the locking devices, to the fifth panel. The flexible tongue of the locking device at the first and third edges, respectively, of the sixth panel is preferably disposed on the edge section 22. The third panel is preferably slidably connected to the first and third edges in order to facilitate the disassembly.
[0073] Figure 3B shows a CS 3B cross section of the first panel 1, the third panel 4 and the fifth panel 6. The third panel 4 can comprise two or more plates 4a-b locked by the mechanical locking system described above.
[0074] Figure 4A shows an embodiment of a method for assembling the assembled product described under Figures 2A-C. The first, second and sixth panels 1, 2, 3 are preferably connected before the third panel is connected. The third panel can be displaced in a diagonal direction 41 such that the first and second edges of the third panel are connected to the second edge of the first panel and the second edge of the second panel at the same time. A preferred alternative for assembling the panels comprises: • arranging a first panel 1, with a first main plane, perpendicular to a second panel 2 with a second main plane, wherein the first main plane is perpendicular to the second main plane; connecting, by hand, a first edge of the first panel 1 to a first edge of the second panel, by linearly displacing the first panel and/or the second panel; • the arrangement of a third panel 4, with a third main plane, perpendicular to the second and third panels, where the third main plane is perpendicular to the first and second main plane; • the connection, by hand, of a second edge of the third panel 4 to a second edge of the second panel, by linearly shifting 43 the third panel 4 and/or the second panel; connecting, by hand, a first edge of the third panel 4 to a second edge of the first panel 1, linearly displacing 42 the third panel and/or the first panel and 1;• the arrangement of a fourth panel 5, with a fourth main plane, perpendicular to the first and third panels, where the fourth main plane is parallel to the second plane, and the connection, by hands, of a first edge of a fourth panel 5 at a third edge of the first panel 1 by linearly displacing the fourth main panel 5 and/or the first panel 1; and• the arrangement of a fifth panel 6, with a fifth main plane perpendicular to the third and fourth panels, the fifth main plane being parallel to the first plane, and connecting, by hand, a first edge of the fifth panel to a third edge of the second panel, and a third edge of a fifth panel to a third edge of the fourth panel, by linearly displacing the fifth main panel 6 and/or the second and fourth panels.
[0075] Each linear displacement is preferably performed in a direction parallel to the third principal plane.
[0076] The first edge of the third panel 4, in this alternative, is displaceably connected to the first edge. Another alternative is to move the third panel in the second direction 43 perpendicular to the second panel and to subsequently move the third panel in the first direction 43 perpendicular to the first panel. The second edge of the third panel 4 in this mode is displaceably connected to the second edge.
[0077] Figure 4B shows that a corner section between, for example, the first and second panels can be provided with a cover plate, in order to hide the locking device.
[0078] Figure 5 shows a furniture, such as a drawer, which comprises six of the locking devices, arranged with one side of the frame coverings facing down. The furniture comprises a first panel 1, for example an inner side of the drawer, connected at a first edge to a first edge of a second panel 2, for example a side of the drawer, by one of the locking devices. A first edge of a third panel 4, for example a rectangular bottom of the drawer, is connected to a second edge of the second panel by another of the locking devices. An edge section of a second edge of the third panel 4 can be inserted into a groove of the edge section of a second edge of the first panel. A first edge of a fourth panel 5, for example a drawer side, is connected to a third edge of the first panel by another of said locking devices. A third edge of the third panel 4 is connected to a second edge of the fourth panel 5 by another one of said locking devices. A first edge of a fifth panel 6, for example a front panel of the drawer, is subsequently connected to a third edge of the fourth panel 5 by another of said locking devices, and a third edge of the fifth panel is connected to a third edge of the second panel, by another of said locking devices. An edge section of a fourth edge of the third panel 4 can be arranged in a groove of the edge section on a second edge of the fifth panel 5. The locking device on each of the first and third edges, respectively, of the third The panel may comprise two or more flexible tabs 30. The third panel is preferably slidably connected to the first and third edges in order to facilitate disassembly. A preferred alternative for assembling the panels comprises: • arranging a first panel 1, with a first main plane, perpendicular to a second panel 2 with a second main plane, wherein the first main plane is perpendicular to the second main plane; connecting, by hand, a first edge of the first panel 1 to a first edge of the second panel, by linearly displacing the first panel and/or the second panel; • the arrangement of a third panel 4, with a third main plane, perpendicular to the second and third panels, where the third main plane is perpendicular to the first and second main planes; • the connection, by hand, of a second edge of the third panel 4 to a second edge of the second panel, when linearly shifting 43 the third panel 4 and/or the second panel; • the arrangement of a fourth panel 5, with a fourth main plane perpendicular to the first and third panels, the fourth main plane being parallel to the second the main plane, and the simultaneous connection, by hand, by linearly displacing the fourth panel 5, from a first edge of a fourth panel 5 to a third edge of the first panel 1 and a third edge of the third panel 3 to a second edge of the fourth panel 5; and• the arrangement of a fifth panel 6, with a fifth main plane perpendicular to the third and fourth panels, the fifth main plane being parallel to the first main plane, and connecting, by hand, a first edge of the fifth panel to a third edge of the second panel, and from a third edge of a fifth panel to a third edge of the fourth panel, by linearly displacing the fifth panel 6.
[0079] Figures 6A-B show alternative modalities of the locking device. Modalities are shown with a 40 gauge groove on one or both sides of the edge section. The tongue groove 10 can be symmetrical, such that the same dismounting tool can be used in opposite positions of the locking device, i.e., locking devices inverted on the mirror. The edge section groove may be provided with a guide surface 32 which facilitates insertion of the edge section into the edge section groove. The edge section groove can be provided with two opposite tongue 10 grooves. The two opposite tongue grooves can easily be made by an end cutter, for example, by an on-site craftsman.
[0080] Figure 7A shows that the arrangement with two opposing tongue grooves 10 can be provided with two flexible tongues 30.
[0081] Figures 7B-C show the disassembly of the locking device by inserting a symmetrical dismantling tool 90 into a symmetrical tongue groove 10 .
[0082] Figures 7D-E show alternative embodiments provided with a disassembly recess 34. These embodiments may be an alternative to the embodiment shown in Figure 2C if, for example, it is desirable to unlock the locking device from the interior of a furniture, such as a drawer, a box or a book. These modalities can also be used to connect the fifth panel to the second and fourth panels in the modality shown in Figure 5A. Tongue 30 is disposed in the groove of the edge section in Figure 7B and in the edge section in Figure 7E. The edge section is provided with a dismounting groove 34 which is adapted to a dismounting tool 90. The tongue 30 springs back in the displacement groove 20, and unlocks the locking device when the dismounting tool is inserted into the recess of disassembly. The disassembly recess can be covered by a cover plate (not shown). Arrangements with the dismounting groove or recess are particularly advantageous for the arrangement which does not have the tongue groove which is accessible from an outer end of the tongue groove for the insertion of a withdrawal tool. However, the disassembly groove or recess arrangements can be used to connect all adjacent panels in order to facilitate disassembly.
[0083] Figure 8A shows an embodiment of the mechanical locking system comprising a tongue 64 on a first edge of a first plate that cooperates with a tongue groove 50 on a second edge of a second plate to lock the first and second plates in a first direction. Furthermore, the locking system comprises a projecting strip 70 with a locking panel 71 on the second edge. The locking panel 71 cooperates with a locking groove 80 on the first edge to lock the first and second plates in a second direction, which is perpendicular to the first direction. The plates and locking system are preferably arranged on the assembled product, with the locking strip facing the direction that is to be loaded. The locking system can remain locked if so arranged.
[0084] Figure 8B shows another mode of a panel, such as a back or bottom panel, comprising a first plate 8a and a second plate 8b provided with a mechanical locking system configured to lock the first plate 4a and the second board 4b on each other.
[0085] The first main plane of the first board is essentially parallel to a second main plane of the second board, wherein the panel comprises a first face 85 and an opposite second face 86 which are parallel to a main plane of the panel, wherein the system of mechanical locking comprises: a first pawl 64 provided on a first edge of the first plate 8a, wherein the first pawl is configured to cooperate with a first pawl groove 50 provided on a second edge of the second plate 8b to lock the first and the second panels to each other in a first vertical direction V1; a second tongue 72 on the second edge of the second plate 8b, wherein the second tongue is configured to cooperate with a second tongue groove 73 on the first edge of the first panel 8a to lock the first and second panels to each other in a second vertical direction V2; a first pair of locking surfaces 83 provided on the first face for locking the first plate 8a and the second plate 8b one against the other in a first horizontal direction H1; and a second pair of locking surfaces 84 provided on the second face for locking the first plate 8a and the second plate 8b together in a second horizontal direction H2.
[0086] The first pair of locking surfaces 83 is preferably essentially vertical. The second pair of locking surfaces 84 is also preferably essentially vertical.
[0087] The first pawl 64 and the first pawl groove 50 cooperate in a third pair of locking surfaces 87 which are preferably arranged essentially horizontally.
The second tongue 72 and the second tongue groove 73 cooperate in a fourth pair of locking surfaces 74 which are preferably arranged at an angle 88 relative to the main plane of the panel which is greater than zero. Angle 88 is selected to allow the first plate to be locked onto the second plate by an angling movement of the first panel, where the first tongue 64 is inserted into the first tongue groove 50, as shown in Figure 8C.
[0089] The first face 85 is arranged upward, or in the direction in which the larger load F1 is likely to be applied, to prevent the first and second plates from being unlocked by an inverted angulation movement.
[0090] The second face 86 is disposed downward, or in the direction in which the minor load F2 is likely to be applied to the panel. The second tongue and the tongue groove can provide a resistance to the unlocking of the first and second plates by an inverted angulation movement.
[0091] Angle 88 can be in the range of about 30° to about 60°. The angle is preferably about 45°.
[0092] Figure 9 shows a preferred embodiment of the locking device for locking a panel and an adjacent panel to each other of the panels 1, 2, 4, 5 of the frame. The locking device comprises a first thickness 55 of a core material between a groove 21 of the edge section and a first edge. The first thickness is greater than a second minimum thickness 54 of a core material of an edge section 22. The ratio of the first thickness 55 to the second minimum thickness 54 can be at least about 1.25; preferably at least about 1.5; and more preferably at least about 2. A preferred ratio of the first thickness 55 to the second minimum thickness 54 is in the range of from about 1.1 to about 3.
[0093] One embodiment comprises a groove 21 of the edge section comprising a first wall 56 and a second wall 57, wherein the first wall is closer to an edge of the panel than the second wall. The first thickness 55 is preferably measured between the first wall 56 and the first edge 53. The first and second walls 56, 57 are preferably connected by a bottom wall 58.
[0094] The edge section 22 may comprise a first wall and an opposite second wall, wherein the tongue groove 10 is provided in the first wall. The second minimum thickness 54 can be measured between a bottom of the tongue groove and the second wall.
[0095] An arrangement of the insert groove 20 that extends along essentially the entire length of the groove of the edge section of the first edge can lead to easier production. An arrangement of tongue groove 10 extending along essentially the entire length of the second edge edge section can also lead to easier production.
[0096] Edge 53 of panel 2, in a preferred embodiment, is provided in essentially the same plane as an outer face 63 of adjacent second panel 4.
[0097] An opening edge of the edge section groove may be provided with a chamfer 59 or rounding in order to facilitate the insertion of a flexible tongue 30 into the insertion groove 20.
[0098] Figure 10A shows an embodiment of an interlocking device for locking the third panel 4, such as a back piece or a lower panel, at the rear or lower edge 81 of the frame. One embodiment of the frame is shown in Figures 2A, 3A and 5.
[0099] Figure 10B shows an embodiment of an interlocking device for locking the sixth panel 3, such as a shelf, to any panel 82 of the frame. A first edge of the sixth panel can be connected to the frame by linear displacement and/or an angulation movement. One embodiment of the frame is shown in Figure 2A and Figure 3A.
[0100] One embodiment of the flexible tongue 30, which is displaceable in an insertion groove 20, is shown in Figures 11A to 11D. Figures 11A-B show the flexible tongue in a locked position and Figures 1C-D show the flexible tongue when assembling a panel and an adjacent panel. Figure 11B shows a cross section of the flexible tongue in Figure 11A. Figure 11D shows a cross section of the flexible tongue in Figure 11C. The flexible tongue comprises the projecting foldable parts 24. A space 23 is provided between the tongue and a lower wall of the insertion groove 20. Figure 11C shows that the flexible tongue is pushed into the insertion groove 20 and the bottom wall during the panel assembly. The tongue snaps back when the first and second panels reach a locked position. A recess 25 is preferably disposed on each designed foldable part.
[0101] The flexible tongue may have a first displacement surface 26 and an opposite second displacement surface 27, configured to be displaced along a third and fourth displacement surfaces 28, 29, respectively, of the insertion groove 20.
[0102] An alternative embodiment of the flexible tongue 30, without the projecting bendable parts, is shown in Figures 11E-F. Figure 11F shows a cross section of the pawl in Figure 11E. The alternate embodiment is foldable in its lengthwise direction in order to perform the same function as the embodiment shown in Figures 11A-D.
[0103] An additional embodiment of the flexible tongue 30 is shown in Figures 11G-H. Figure 11G shows the flexible tongue 30 before the panel and adjacent panel are locked together by the flexible tongue. The flexible tongue comprises an inner part 31 provided with wedge elements and an outer part for locking the panel and the adjacent panel together by the flexible tongue. Locking is achieved by applying a force P, in a direction parallel to the first edge, on a short edge of the outside. The force displaces the outside of the tongue in the direction parallel to the edge of the panel and the wedges force the outside of the tongue in a perpendicular direction, away from the insertion groove 20. The resulting displacement 32 of the outside of the flexible tongue, therefore, is in a direction between the direction parallel to the first edge and the perpendicular direction.
[0104] Although illustrative embodiments of the invention have been described herein, the present invention is not limited to the various preferred embodiments described herein, but includes any and all embodiments that have elements, modifications, omissions, combinations (e.g. , from aspects through various embodiments), adaptations and/or equivalent changes as will be appreciated by those skilled in the art as based on the present invention.
