Field of invention
[0001] The present invention relates to an apparatus for applying an impregnating agent to the surfaces of items, namely footwear, as well as a method of impregnating items such as footwear, using an apparatus as mentioned above. Fundamentals of the invention
[0002] In order to protect shoes or other items from moisture, it is quite common to impregnate the shoes with an impregnating agent that will neutralize the influence of moisture / water.
[0003] Within the context of this patent, footwear will be used as an example of items that are appropriate to be treated with and by the invention. Naturally, the person skilled in the art, after realizing the advantages of the present invention, will recognize which other items are suitable to also be treated by the apparatus and the method.
[0004] Typically, a shoe will be made from a material that is not waterproof, and so a reason to impregnate is to prolong the period of time from the moment the shoe is exposed to moisture and even the shoe saturated, in which moisture gained access to the feet.
[0005] Another object is to prevent moisture from discolouring the surface and, therefore, the appearance of footwear, which can also be relieved by the use of an impregnating agent.
[0006] Normally, the impregnation process is carried out by an impregnating agent contained in an aerosol can in such a way that by activating the aerosol can an impregnation mist is created through the nozzle of the can and by directing the mist on the shoes. , a layer of impregnating agent is applied to the footwear surface.
[0007] This process is usually carried out outdoors, in which the impregnating agent, as well as the aerosols used to boost the impregnating agents, have a bad smell and leave stains around and, if inhaled, are potentially harmful to health. .
[0008] From DE19945229 an impregnation device is known, in which the shoes are positioned on an endless conveyor and transported through various treatment sections. The conveyor belt comprises impellers that propel the shoe through different sections and the shoe is positioned on rotating platforms, such that as soon as the shoe arrives, for example, at the impregnation spray station, the shoe is rotated in relation to the nozzles spray, where the nozzles (in theory) impregnate all external surfaces of the shoe.
[0009] GB2125319 discloses an additional device to impregnate footwear. The apparatus comprises a rail on which the footwear to be impregnated is arranged on said rail. The trail leads through treatment plants, and the footwear placed on the tracks will, while traveling through the treatment plants, be sprayed with - for example - an impregnating agent, dry etc. The footwear is arranged on supports being part of the trail, where the supports rotate in the treatment stations ensuring that all exterior surfaces are sprayed.
[00010] In order to solve these problems, the same applicant has successfully developed an appliance that has a compartment in which shoes were placed and an impregnation process was carried out. This apparatus was published as international patent application No. WO 2009/127214 A1 and is incorporated by reference.
[00011] Although this device has really addressed the issues related to the dangerous inhalation of impregnation mist, distribution of impregnating agent in the environment and a more homogeneous impregnation of the footwear items, some items of desirable improvement still persist which the present invention addresses . Object of the Invention
[00012] One of the objects of the present invention is, therefore, to create and apply a more homogeneous and uniformly distributed amount of impregnating agent on all surfaces of the footwear, in such a way that not only enough impregnating agent, but also enough agent of impregnation is evenly distributed on all exposed surfaces. In addition, it is desirable to use as little impregnating agent as possible, both with regard to environmental issues, but also in relation to the cost of impregnating footwear items. At the same time, the device must be compact and capable of handling various types and sizes of shoes, being made from different materials, but still achieving a finished result, which is convincing and which will maintain the expected quality of an impregnated item. . Description of the Invention
[00013] The present invention addresses this issue by providing a device for applying an impregnating agent to the surfaces of items, in particular footwear, where said device has a treatment chamber, where a door is provided that opens and closes, said door allowing access to the interior of said treatment chamber for positioning the item (s) to be (s) impregnated (s) within said treatment chamber and where means adjacent to the bottom of said treatment chamber are provided to place the (s) item (s), in particular footwear in approximately determined positions and where at least three nozzles are arranged in said treatment chamber, where said nozzles are capable of creating and emitting a mist of impregnating agent, in such a way that the first and second nozzles are arranged to direct the mist of an area of the item (s) in the determined position corresponding to the front area of the right and left respectively and a third nozzle is positioned placed behind and between the determined position of the item (s), that third nozzle directs the impregnation mist to a zone of the item (s) in the determined position corresponding to the rear and interior sides of the item (s) ( ns).
[00014] In the context of at least the present invention it is important to understand the use of certain terms which will be used in the claims and also in the explanations below.
[00015] One such term is "impregnating agent". By impregnating agent is meant any substance that is generally liquid or gaseous that is desirable to be applied to a surface in order to obtain certain characteristics such as water repellency, color, subtlety and the like. Examples may be silicon-based water-repellent impregnating agents, solvents containing greasy / oily substances or various coloring agents. With the present invention, it has been found that agents having a particle size in the generated mist being 8 to 10 times smaller than the water particles provide the best results. Likewise, solvent-containing agents having low ignition points provide better results.
[00016] One such additional term is "footwear". Traditionally, footwear means shoes, boots, sandals, etc., but, as will be clear to the person skilled in the art, any item that has a shape or size corresponding to a shoe, and where it is desirable to provide a surface treatment it must also be interpreted as being suitable to be treated or handled by an apparatus according to the present invention. Examples of such items are bags, gloves, pillows, etc.
[00017] Furthermore, the term "door" should, in the context of the present invention, be interpreted as meaning any traditional door, which has means of articulation to allow it to be opened and closed, but furthermore as the purpose of the door is to allow access to a treatment chamber inside the device, it is also contemplated in the scope of the present invention that the term door can actually be understood as a drawer where the front of the drawer acts as a door, that is, it closes the access to the interior of the device. In embodiments of the invention where the door is in the shape of a drawer, the means for placing the shoe in the approximately determined position can be properly arranged at the bottom of the drawer for convenience of use.
[00018] In addition, the term "mist" should be understood as a relatively dense set of tiny drops that are emitted from nozzles. When the term "shoe zone" is used, it should be understood as a part or section of a shoe surface area regardless of the relative orientation of that surface such that the surface can be vertical, horizontal or arranged at any intermediate angle to these options, in such a way that the nozzles being designated to provide spray in that area will apply a mist of impregnating agent to any specific shoe surface present in that area / area.
[00019] The door allows easy and safe access to the treatment chamber in such a way that when opening the door it is possible to put the shoes inside the treatment chamber and when closing the door, the treatment chamber will be isolated from the outside to the point that any harmful odors or particles from the impregnation process remain inside the device. In addition, indicating where the footwear should be positioned inside the treatment chamber, by indicating the approximate approximate positions of the footwear, it is ensured that the footwear is placed at the correct distances from the nipples in such a way that it can be achieved a successful impregnation process.
[00020] The term "determined approximate position" must be understood so that, since the devices are being made for shoes of various sizes, it is not always possible to have the same distance between the surface of the shoes to be treated and the specific nozzle . In order to compensate for this issue, this device comprises, in an additionally advantageous manner, software that will control one or more of the following parameters in order to obtain a successful impregnation: pressure of impregnating agent, moments of opening of the nozzle, amount of impregnating agent used etc.
[00021] "Approximate determined position", for example, can be an outline on the bottom from which to position each piece of shoes or a basket, or support or other suitable means to retain / support items to be treated in a position substantially determined in relation to to the nozzle positions in the treatment chamber.
[00022] Thorough investigation of the spray pattern of the present invention has indicated that although the mid-sized shoe nozzles will create an overlap in the emitted mist, a thorough and thorough impregnation cycle will be achieved for a wide range of shoe sizes. However, it should be noted that for boots, shoes and sandals special impregnation routines are applied which will be discussed below with reference to the discussion of the inventive method of using the device.
[00023] The impregnation routine is facilitated by the provision of at least three nozzles located as described above, in such a way that all areas of the shoe are treated by a nozzle in the immediate vicinity. Tests have indicated that it is very important that the distance between the surface to be treated and the nozzle outlet has a certain interval, in order to create a substantial mist that will be able to create a substantially homogeneous mist at the point of contact with the item's surface. to be impregnated and at the same time, avoid evaporation especially of solvents etc. before the impregnating agent is transferred to the area to be impregnated.
[00024] In an even more advantageous embodiment, fourth and fifth nozzles are provided in which the fourth and fifth nozzles are arranged behind the item (s) in the given position in order to direct the impregnation mist to the rear sides and left and right external elements of the right and left items, respectively.
[00025] These fourth and fifth nozzles complement the three nozzles so that the effect of a complete and effective spray pattern is achieved, effectively covering any item arranged in the approximate approximate position.
[00026] For these reasons and with regard to the shape of the shoes, the nipples can, in an even more advantageous way, be arranged at oblique angles in relation to the bottom of the treatment chamber. By organizing the nozzles at oblique angles it is possible to organize the nozzle in such a way that they are ideally positioned in relation to the footwear surface that must be treated by means of which the mist impregnating agent is delivered to the surface in the most ideal way.
[00027] In an even more advantageous embodiment of the invention, each nozzle is connected to a reservoir of impregnating agent via a channel, and the impregnating agent is supplied under pressure to the nozzles, and where each nozzle is supplied with a valve device, where each valve is controlled independently and where at least the respective valves controlling the first and second nozzles are controllable to emit impregnating agent at different times.
[00028] In this way, complete control of the mist creation is achieved and through the control of each valve, and in this way of each nozzle independently, it is possible to control the impregnation process completely.
[00029] Additional advantages are obtained by controlling the nozzle, in such a way that the first and second nozzles perform emission at different times. As they are emitting from the left and right sides of the shoe, some interference may result from the mists being forced on the shoe, in which areas of the shoe could have agglomerations of impregnating agent while other areas will have almost no agent of impregnation. impregnation. Simply by sequencing the generation of mist in the nozzles, the nozzles will always emit into the "unoccupied" space, that is, they will emit into the air where there is no mist present or traveling at that specific moment.
[00030] In a more advantageous embodiment, the respective first and second nozzles emit impregnating agent at intervals from 50 milliseconds to 2000 milliseconds, more preferably 100 milliseconds to 1500 milliseconds and more preferably 1500 milliseconds to 1300 milliseconds. With these short bursts that can be repeated as determined in the software, it is ensured that the mist that travels towards the surface is not interfered / deflected during the trip, and that minute amounts of impregnating agent are used in each burst, composing a economic process of the impregnation cycle.
[00031] As already mentioned above, the distance between the nozzles and the surfaces to be treated is very important and for this reason the nozzles are arranged in such a way that the distance, when the shoes are positioned in the determined position, between the surfaces to be treated and the nozzles are from 10 mm to 200 mm, more preferably from 25 mm to 100 mm.
[00032] In another additional advantageous embodiment, extraction means are provided at the bottom of the treatment chamber, where said extraction means can optionally include an active filter unit, and where the extraction unit in use creates a relative underpressure within the camera compared to the outside of the device.
[00033] As already mentioned above, some of the impregnating agents can be hazardous to the health of operators or people in the vicinity of the apparatus and, in addition, the impregnating agents may have an odor that is not desirable in the immediate vicinity, for example example, in a store environment and therefore, by providing extraction means optionally with active filter units, it is possible to prevent any impregnating agent from escaping from the treatment chamber. Especially, by organizing the extraction means in such a way that a low air pressure is present inside the air chamber than the pressure of the environment in which the device is placed is ensured that there is no outlet of impregnating agent treatment chamber.
[00034] In an even more advantageous embodiment of the invention, a sixth nozzle is disposed in an upper part of the treatment chamber, where such nozzle is directed towards the emission of impregnating agent to a rear part of the treatment chamber.
[00035] This nozzle is specifically organized to impregnate the boot shaft and will normally only be activated by the software when a user selects an impregnation treatment related to boots.
[00036] In an even more advantageous embodiment of the invention, the apparatus consists of means of communication, to communicate with a remote computer server, and where each time the apparatus is started and / or a spray routine is activated, or at predetermined time intervals, the device transmits one or more of the following options to said remote server: an internal verification report, content / level (s) in reservoir (s), identification of used spray routines, device identification code , number of treatments, any errors.
[00037] These means of communication are provided in order to check, from a remote location, the proper functioning of the machine since the apparatus is generally so complicated that employees working in a store where the impregnation apparatus is typically positioned they would be able to solve faults, errors or malfunctions that the device could suffer.
[00038] The invention is also directed to a method of impregnating shoes using an apparatus, as discussed above. The inventive method performs a series of steps in which in a first step i A shoe or pair of shoes is placed inside the treatment chamber in the appropriate position determined as indicated at the bottom of the chamber; ii The chamber is closed and the impregnation process begins; iii Pumping means connected to at least one reservoir comprising the impregnating agent and the nozzles inside the chamber, are activated, creating pressure in the channels that lead from the pump to the nozzles; iv A pre-programmed spray routine is performed by allowing a control unit, in which at least one spray routine is pre-programmed to control the valves provided adjacent to the nozzles to open and close according to the routine, and to activate the extraction means according to the spray routine.
[00039] Another significant advantage with the device and the method, according to the invention is the fact that the device can be built as a stand-alone unit, since all the necessary resources can be organized within a housing - such as will be discussed below with reference to the figures. When issues related to hazardous vapors, impregnating agent storage etc. all are addressed and contained within the device, the device can be placed in environments where state of the art devices would not be suitable. Such environments include inside stores, changing rooms, etc. where these types of devices are not normally allowed due to environmental issues.
[00040] With this method the inventive objects as already discussed above will be achieved. Even more advantageous modalities of the method are described in additional dependent claims. Description of the Figures
[00041] The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 schematically illustrates an apparatus for the application of an impregnating agent on shoe surfaces; Figure 2 illustrates a treatment chamber; Figure 3 illustrates the device seen from above with the door pulled open. Detailed Description of the Invention
[00042] In Figure 1, an apparatus is schematically illustrated for the application of an impregnating agent on the surfaces of shoes, although the surrounding walls of the apparatus have been removed in order to illustrate the proper functioning of the apparatus.
[00043] In the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figure 1, the shoe is a pair of shoes 10 comprising a left shoe and a right shoe. The shoes are organized in a treatment chamber 20 in which said treatment chamber, as illustrated in Figure 2, can be opened and closed through a door 31 (see Figure 2). The door 31 allows access to the interior of the treatment chamber 20 in such a way that items as illustrated in Figure 1, in the shape of a pair of shoes 10, can be placed and treated, that is, impregnated inside the treatment chamber. Adjacent to the bottom 21 of the treatment chamber 20, means in the form of indications 22 are provided for placing the footwear in approximately determined positions.
[00044] Going back briefly to Figure 3, the appliance 1 is seen from above with the door 31 pulled open, as shown in Figure 2. In this point of view, it is possible to see the means 22 for the placement of the footwear and, in addition , the approximate positions determined are indicated by the contours 23, 24, 25, corresponding to the size of the different shoes. In this way it is possible to arrange the footwear that must be treated in suitable shoe sizes, to place them in what, within this order, is called approximate determined positions.
[00045] Returning to Figure 1, a number of nozzles, 26, 27, 28 and 29 is arranged inside the treatment chamber where each nozzle will create a mist of impregnating agent directed to the shoes 10 to be treated. The first and second nozzles 26, 27 are arranged to direct a mist to a zone, 41, 42 of the shoe in the determined position corresponding to the front area of the right and left shoes, respectively. A third nozzle 30, slightly obscured by the fog, is positioned behind and between the determined position of the right and left shoes respectively, in such a way that the third nozzle 30 directs the impregnation mist towards a zone of the shoe 10 in the determined position corresponding to the rear and inner, left and right sides of the right and left shoes, respectively. The fourth 28 and the fifth nozzles (the fifth nozzle being obscured by the shoes) are arranged behind the shoe 10 in the determined position in order to direct the impregnation mist to the left and right rear and outer sides of the right and left shoes, respectively . In this way, the five nozzles 26, 27, 28, 30 (and the fifth hidden nozzle) substantially surround the shoes arranged in the approximate positions determined at the bottom of the device 1 and by emitting a mist created by the passage of an impregnating agent through the nipples, the shoes are impregnated in substantially the entire outer surface.
[00046] Below the bottom 21 of the treatment chamber 20, various equipment is arranged. Immediately adjacent to the bottom 21 and arranged in communication with the treatment chamber is a filter and extraction unit 50 that sucks the excess mist from the treatment chamber 20. The filter unit 51, for example, being an active carbon filter, neutralizes any odors. It is important that these types of machines are generally placed inside stores and the like, and therefore it is desirable that they are not noticeable in the immediate environment.
[00047] Further down in apparatus 1, a container 52 containing the impregnating agent is arranged, which, by means of a pump 53, is guided to the nozzles in the treatment chamber 20. Each nozzle is provided with a valve (not shown) and each valve is controlled independently, so that it is possible to activate the valves independently of each other. This is important due to the fact that the mist under pressure can create turbulence and "push" the mist emitted from another nozzle away. By sequentially activating different nozzles, it is ensured that the mist being emitted from a specific nozzle will reach the shoes 10 disposed in the determined position. In addition, as is evident from Figure 1, the nozzles are arranged at an oblique angle in such a way that they will spray slightly upwards or downwards on the shoe surfaces in order to reach all surface areas of the shoe 10. The shoe 10 normally will not have all surfaces, being perpendicular to the nozzles and, therefore, it is necessary to have the mist impregnating curved surfaces, and through the organization of the nozzles as shown, a complete and satisfactory impregnation is achieved. In the upper part of the treatment chamber 20 a sixth nozzle 29 is arranged in which the sixth nozzle can be activated to impregnate items extending further upward in the treatment chamber 20 such as, for example, boots, bags and the like.
[00048] Returning to Figure 2, the door 31 in the form of a drawer comprises the front surface of the closing door 32 and the bottom part of the drawer 33 in which the means to indicate the approximate positions determined 22 are placed. When the shoe 10 is placed in the drawer and the drawer is closed, the treatment chamber is isolated from the outside.
[00049] As the impregnation cycle is activated by the control panel 54, the extraction unit 50 will ensure that the under pressure in relation to the ambient pressure outside the treatment is present inside the treatment chamber 20. In this way it is ensured that the impregnation mist will not escape the treatment and that any odors will pass through the filter before being distributed back to the surrounding environment.
[00050] The apparatus and method can, for example, be programmed for appropriate routines depending on the size of the shoe. Table 1 lists examples of spray routines. Nozzles - numbers in parentheses refer to reference numbers in Fig. 1, "small", "medium" etc., refer to the shoe size and the numbers are spray time in milliseconds.

[00051] The control panel contains all the necessary input devices in such a way that a user can operate the device 1, for example, when selecting an impregnation program, as illustrated in table 1 for shoes as represented in Figure 1, where the sixth nozzle 29 is not activated or when selecting a suitable boot program, as shown in Figure 2. In addition, the entry can also be in relation to the material from which the footwear is made in such a way that adequate concentrations, density of fog etc. are generated by the nozzles. The software operating the impregnation cycle is designed to take care of most types of footwear in terms of shape, size and material. After the impregnation cycle is completed, a short drying cycle is activated in such a way that as the shoes 10 are recovered from the treatment chamber 20 when opening the door 30, the shoes will have a substantially dry surface being newly impregnated.
[00052] The control panel, 54 and especially the software can also, in other modalities, contain a GSM module that communicates with a central server, keeping control of the number of impregnation cycles, the amount of impregnating agent used and any error messages, such as service messages, which can be carried out in a timely manner.
[00053] The invention has been explained with reference to the attached figures above, portraying different aspects of modalities of the invention, but the scope of protection cannot be limited to the modalities described above, but only be limited by the attached claims.
[00054] Above, and especially in the figures, the apparatus according to the invention has been described with reference to an apparatus which is clearly a self-contained autonomous unit. However, the implementation of the advantageous features of the invention in production lines or other situations where autonomous features are not necessary can also be taken into account.
