FIELD OF TECHNIQUE
[001] The invention relates to a seating system to be used in auditoriums, such as movie theaters, amphitheaters, classrooms, theater houses and the like. Among the innovative aspects of the seating system revealed is its ability to provide better user comfort and convenience while maximizing the use of floor space in the salon. TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
[002] In general, theater, theater and auditorium seats are designed to maximize the number of seats in a theater while providing a comfortable seat for the customer. Some armchairs recline and include cup holders and/or trays. In addition, some armchairs include an area for the customer to store food or personal items.
[003] There have been advances in movie theater seating to accommodate new motion and sound technologies. There have also been advances in movie theater seating to accommodate movie theater meals. However, there have been limited advances in providing amenities, such as foot rests in auditorium seats - standard, non-special or "VIP"s, while maximizing the floor space that is utilized.
[004] People like to put their feet up to get comfortable and relax. The cinema is a place where people like to be comfortable while watching a movie. Some movie theaters provide VIP seats for guests who pay additional fees to access leather reclining chairs with footrests and other additional advanced features and facilities, such as desks and storage areas for personal effects. Typically, the recliner requires an individual area of two (2) meters to function properly while providing space for waiters and other customers. However, not all customers are willing or able to pay for VIP seats. Furthermore, not all movie theaters can be dedicated to accommodating such a large amount of space for VIP seating.
[005] Therefore, there is a need in the technique for auditorium seating that provides improvements in user comfort and convenience while maximizing the use of hall floor space. In particular, there is a need for a comfortable reclining chair that includes a footrest while maximizing the number of seats in the auditorium. Such luxurious, comfortable, yet commonplace seating will allow a salon to have a competitive edge due to improvements in its quality and comfort for all customers.
[006] There is still an additional need in the art for an ergonomic solution for comfortable auditorium seating that uses the minimum amount of floor space required. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[007] The present invention meets the needs in the industry by providing a seating system to improve user comfort and convenience while maximizing the use of floor space in the salon. The seating system comprises two modular components: (1) a reclining theater seat assembly and (2) a comfort divider. The reclining movie theater chair assembly comprises a seating surface, a reclining backrest, arm rests and a support base. The comfort divider comprises foot rest mounts and recliner stop mounts in an alternating arrangement. A row of comfort dividers is situated between each row of movie theater seat mounts. A comfort divider row may comprise a unitary assembly or, similarly to an armchair assembly, may comprise modular assemblies connected together as determined by space requirements.
[008] The invention provides a seating system comprising a reclining chair assembly and a comfort divider. The recliner mounts can be connected to form a row of seats and the comfort divider is situated between each row of seats. The comfort divider comprises foot rest mounts and recliner stop mounts in an alternating arrangement. The footrest mounts each comprise a shelf-like structure that opens in a rearward-facing direction to provide multiple levels of footrests in which the chair user directly behind the comfort divider can rest their feet. The recliner stop assemblies each comprise a wall which is optionally angled to form a recess for receiving the reclining back of an armchair assembly in front of the divider.
[009] Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a comfortable reclining chair that includes a footrest while maximizing the number of seats that can fit within the auditorium. The footrest is not part of the recliner, but part of a dividing wall or a comfort divider that is found in front of the armchairs. The comfort divider also serves as a recliner stop to prevent the row of seats in front of the divider from reclining too far and disturbing the customers seated in the back.
[010] These and other objectives, features and advantages of the present invention can be better understood and verified from the following detailed description of the modalities thereof, selected for illustration purposes and shown in the attached drawings. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[011] Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the seating system of the present invention.
[012] Figure 2 is a rear perspective view of the seating system of the present invention,
[013] Figure 3 is a top view of a hall with the seating system of the present invention installed.
[014] Figure 4 is a top view comparing three auditoriums using different seating systems, that is, (a) a traditional VIP seating system, (b) traditional non-VIP seating and (c) a seating system according to the present invention. DESCRIPTION OF MODALITIES
[015] The embodiments of the invention are illustrated in the attached drawings. Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the seating system and Figure 2 is a rear perspective view of the seating system. The seating system can be used in auditoriums such as movie theaters, amphitheaters, classrooms, theater houses and the like. The term "cinema room seats" as used herein is to be understood as referring to seats that can be used in an auditorium, in picture theaters, amphitheaters, classrooms, theaters and, essentially, anywhere one wishes to use such seating arrangements. Among the new aspects of the seating system unveiled is the ability to provide enhanced user comfort and convenience while maximizing the use of auditorium floor space.
[016] The seating system disclosed includes two basic modular components that can be arranged in various configurations to suit the dimensions and geometries of the hall in which they will be installed.
[017] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the first of the modular components is a reclining movie theater armchair assembly 1 (also referred to herein as an "armchair assembly") which comprises a seating surface 3 , a reclining backrest 4, at least one armrest 5 and a support base 6. Additional comfort features can be incorporated into the armchair assembly 1, such as cup holders 7, retractable tables, personal lamps, as well as other functions of known comfort. Multiple modular armchair assemblies 1 can be connected to form a row of armchairs with an armchair spacing determined by the width of each armchair assembly 1. The armchair spacing can also be increased or decreased by introducing or removing spacers between the armchairs 1 in a row. Additional variations of the armchair 1 assembly may include a "double armchair" assembly which minimizes the number of armchair 1 assemblies that need to be connected to form a row, as well as an "end of row" assembly to be optionally installed in one or both extremes of each seat row.
[018] The second of the modular components is a comfort divider 2 which is intended for placement between each row of cinema seats 1. The comfort divider 2 comprises 8 footrest mounts and 9 recliner stop mounts in one alternate arrangement. The footrest assembly 8 comprises a shelf-like structure 10 that is open in a rearward-facing direction (relative to a person sitting in an armchair directly behind it) and provides multiple levels of footrests in which the Armchair user can rest their feet. The footrest assembly 8 can also optionally include a storage area for the user's personal effects. In addition, the customer can use one of the shelf-like structures 10 as a footrest and the other shelf-like structure 10 for storing personal effects. The footrest assembly 8 can optionally be connected to electricity for lighting or to provide electrical outputs for users to charge electronic devices when they are stored and stored during the program or performance.
[019] The recliner stop assembly 9 comprises primarily a wall which is optionally angled to match the recline angle of the backrest of the armchair assembly 4. The wall, of course, can be perpendicular to the floor and still serve that goal. It is envisioned that a wall having an angle of inclination of 0 to 30 degrees is suitable to achieve this purpose, although larger angles of inclination may also be acceptable and considered within the scope of the present invention. The 9 recliner stop assembly limits the maximum amount of reclining of the seat directly in front of the seat to prevent over-reclining and inconvenience to customers behind it. The upper surface of the wall forms an open recess in the forward-facing direction 11 (relative to the person seated in an armchair directly in front thereof) which is adapted to receive the reclining backrest 4 of an armchair assembly in front of it. The bottom surface of the wall forms an open recess in the rearward-facing direction 12 (in relation to a person sitting in an armchair directly in front of these) which can include additional storage space for the row of armchairs directly behind it. The main purpose of the recliner stop assembly 9 is to prevent the user's seat assembly 1 from reclining too far back and thus reaching the legroom of the seats directly behind it.
[020] Multiple footrest 8 mounts and 9 recliner stops can be connected in an alternating pattern to form a comfort divider 2 row with an 8 footrest spacing determined by the combined width of the two mounts. Footrest 8 spacing can also be increased or decreased by introducing or removing spacers between mounts in a row. Under many circumstances, it will be preferred that the armchair spacing 3 and the footrest spacing 8 are identical.
[021] As shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 in operation, the seating system disclosed is installed in a hall by placing a rearmost row of reclining theater seat mounts 1 facing the front of the hall with a matching comfort divider row 2 immediately in front of row of reclining theater seat mounts 1. The distance between row of theater seat mounts 1 and comfort divider row 2 is variable and depends on the salon configuration and the amount of legroom that will be provided to the user.
[022] The components of the comfort divider row 2 are arranged and configured so that each armchair assembly 1 has a corresponding footrest assembly 8 directly in front of these and a recliner stop assembly 4 is situated diagonally between each of the armchairs.
[023] The next row of theater recliner mounts 1 and comfort dividers 2 is installed in front of the rearmost row of theater seat mounts 1 and comfort dividers 2, but is scaled horizontally in relation to to the rearmost row so that the recliner back 4 of each armchair assembly 1 corresponds to a recliner stop assembly 9 directly behind it. The additional rows of armchair mounts 1 can then be installed on a similar model until the entire lounge seating surface is complete. The arrangement of seats in a staggered design also ensures visibility to all customers in any position. In other words, in this arrangement, no customer could have another customer directly in front, thus minimizing the possibility of a customer's head blocking the visibility of a customer in the row directly behind.
[024] The multiple rows of theater 1 seat mounts and 2 row dividers can be situated on a level surface or in a "stadium armchair" configuration, where the rows can be installed in a stepped arrangement down when viewed from the back to the front, creating a less obstructed line of sight towards the front of the room.
[025] In one modality, stadium-type seats are used on a stepped floor. The individual seating system area is 1.40 m, which includes a 1 theater room seat mount and a 2 row divider with a slope of 0.45 m for each seat row level. In this modality, the space allocated to armchair 3, reclining backrest 4, footrest assembly 8 and the aisle is as follows: armchair 3 is 0.50 m, reclining backrest 4 is 0 .15 m, the space in which one reclines is 0.15 m, that of the footrest 8 is 0.15 m and that of the corridor is 0.45 m. The total space to be used by a movie theater armchair assembly 1 and by the comfort divider 2 with the foot rest 8, also known as the "individual area", is 1.40 m. The individual area of the theater seat mount 1 and the comfort divider 2 with the footrest 8 on the same level floor is also 1.40 m. The 1.40m individual area of the present seating system provides a significant improvement in maximizing the use of floor space when compared to the typical VIP seating area of 2.0m per seat.
[026] The present seating system provides several advantages. Namely, the comfort of a footrest 8 is provided to a customer without the customer having to pay a VIP ticket price. The present seating system also provides the luxuries of VIP experiences, such as a footrest 8, a side table, a folding armrest 5, an ergonomic chair 3, a reclining backrest 4 and shelves 10 for storing personal belongings. and/or food. The seating system also provides the lounge with greater profitability as the seating area is designed to reduce the individual area of the VIP chair, which takes up significantly more floor space. The present seating system is designed to be a lower cost investment than that incurred by VIP seats. The cinema seating system idealizes the floor space used to provide the customer with the greatest possible personal space while being economically beneficial to the theater owner.
[027] Figure 4 is a top view comparing three halls using different seating systems, that is, halls with (a) traditional VIP seats, (b) traditional non-VIP seats and (c) seats according to present invention. As shown, the present movie theater seating system efficiently uses 64% of the profitable floor space available. While typical movie theater VIP seating can use around 40% of the available profit-making floor space and a traditional non-VIP movie theater uses 100% of the available profit-making floor space. This assumes that the auditorium is approximately 252 m2, the distance of the first row from the screen is 7 m, the side aisles are 1.50 m each. Consequently, the present movie theater seating system offers a significant economic advantage over VIP seating, while still providing the VIP experience.
[028] The movie theater seating system can employ a wide variety of upholstery. The seating surfaces 3 and reclining backrest 4 can be made of any suitable material, such as durable fabric, vinyl or leather. Armrests 5 can include a fixed table or a swinging table or tray. The comfort divider 2 and the footrest 8 may comprise any suitable known material such as aluminium, stainless steel, fiberglass, plywood, laminated wood, leather and/or textiles,
[029] In a cinema seating system modality, the following dimensions are used for an 8 footrest assembly of the comfort divider 2: the top width is 0.40 m, the base width is 0.29 m, comfort divider 2 is 0.69 m high, 0.19 m deep, first footrest or shelf 10 is 0.21 m high and second footrest or shelf 10 is 0.40 m high. The interior can comprise any decorative and/or durable material. One such material is textured neoprene with a zigzag design. The footrest 8 and/or the comfort divider 2 may additionally include a looped hook for hanging and storing bags or purses.
[030] The modalities of the seating system have been disclosed by way of example. However, it should be understood that the two basic modular components, ie the recliner assembly and the comfort divider, can be arranged in various configurations. The components can also comprise a wide variety of known materials such as wood, leather, laminated steel and the like. All these variations can be modified to suit the dimensions and geometry of the auditorium in which they will be installed.
[031] Although the invention is illustrated in detail in the attached Figures and examples and described in this document, various modifications and structural changes can be made in this document without departing from the spirit of the invention and being within the scope and scope of the projects disclosed.
