[001] The present invention relates to a support and retention structure for a portable electronic device.
[002] Portable electronic devices such as cell phones, GPS navigators and tablets are widespread and are also used in vehicles, particularly commercial vehicles.
[003] Generally, the portable electronic device is coupled to a support, which, in turn, is fixed to the vehicle's windshield, by means of a suction cover. This type of coupling, however, is subject to unwanted loosening and can compromise external visibility through the windshield.
[004] Thus, the need is felt to be able to integrate the support in the vehicle dashboard, so that the portable electronic device becomes comfortable and simple to use, without compromising the external appearance of the dashboard itself.
[005] At the same time, the need is felt to provide a universal type support, that is, a support in which electronic devices of different shapes and/or sizes can be mutually coupled, in order to adapt it in a simple way, without substantially altering the various needs of different users.
[006] It is the object of the present invention to provide a support and retention structure for a portable electronic device, which allows to solve the above mentioned needs, in a simple and economical way and that preferably retains the portable electronic device, with a high degree of safety and make the device's screen comfortably visible to the driver.
[007] According to the present invention, a support and retention structure is provided for a portable electronic device as defined in claim 1.
[008] Furthermore, according to the present invention, a vehicle panel is provided as defined in claim 18.
[009] The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a non-limiting embodiment of the invention, in which: - Figure 1 is a partial perspective view of a vehicle panel, equipped with a formwork. preferred embodiment of the support and retention structure of a portable electronic device, in accordance with the present invention, with such support and retention structure shown in retracted configuration; - figures 2 and 3 are similar to figure 1 and show the support and retention structure in different operative configurations; figure 4 is a side view, on an enlarged scale, and with parts in cross section, of a component of the support and retention structure, in the configuration shown in figure 2; figure 5 is similar to figure 3 and shows the support and retention structure on an enlarged scale; figure 6 shows the support and retention structure, in the configuration shown in figure 5, in cross section, taken along a vertical sectional plane; and - figure 7 is a perspective view, on an enlarged scale, of an internal detail of the support and retention structure shown in the above-cited figures.
[0010] In Figure 1, reference numeral 1 indicates, as a whole, a vehicle panel (partially shown), comprising a frame 2, made of plastic material and having an outer surface 3, which is preferably oriented upwards and thus facing the vehicle windshield 4. Furthermore, the panel 1 comprises the support and retaining structure 5, fixed to the frame 2, which has a support member 6, which is movable. with respect to frame 2, between a retracted position and an extended position, and has a front surface 7 which defines a bearing surface, which is preferably elongated, over the entire length of a direction 8.
[0011] In the retracted position, the support member 6 is adjacent to the frame 2 and preferably remains at least partly hidden in the frame 2. In particular, the surface 7 remains substantially flush with the surface. 3 and direction 8 substantially coincides with the longitudinal direction of advancement 9 of the vehicle.
[0012] As shown in figures 2 and 3, on the other hand, in the extended position, the support member 6 is separated from the frame 2, towards the center of the passenger compartment, and preferably rotates around an axis horizontal, orthogonal to direction 9, in relation to the retraction position, described above, with reference to figure 1.
[0013] In the extended position, the support member 6 can be positioned in two configurations: in the first, shown in figure 2, it performs a bench or shelf function, because one or more sheets, i.e., a notepad (not shown), can be arranged on the surface 7 and, in particular, such sheets can be supported by means of a fastener 10 articulated with an upper portion 11 of the support member 6. In the second configuration, shown in Figure 3, the support member bracket 6 can support and retain a portable electronic device 12 and, in particular, can be adapted to devices 12 of different sizes, as will be described in greater detail below.
[0014] With reference to figures 5 and 6, frame 5 comprises a fastening member 13, which is fixed to frame 2, for example, by means of screws, and is housed, at least in part, in frame 2. fixing member 13 is preferably constituted by a tub defining a seat 14 facing the passenger compartment of the vehicle and comprising a portion 15 which supports, in a fixed position, a fixing member 16 of the type known and not described in detail. The clamping member 16 is releasably engaged by a hook member, secured to a rear portion 19 of the support member 6 and defined, for example, by a pin 18. A retaining action is provided between the clamping member. attachment 16 and pin 18 to hold support member 6 in the retracted position until manual release action is exerted by a user. In the illustrated example, in particular, the release action is defined by a manual pull of the support 6 upwards, carried out, for example, by tightening the catch 10, which must go beyond a certain limit, in order to overcome the above-mentioned holding action and release pin 18.
[0015] Obviously, the clamping member 16 can alternatively be coupled to the support member 6, and the pin 18 can be coupled to the clamping member 13. In addition, devices other than the clamping member 16 and/or can be provided. or having different release methods, for example with a control triggered manually.
[0016] In the retracted position, the support member 6 remains, at least in part, housed in the seat 14. In particular, as mentioned above, the surface 7 remains substantially level with the surface 3.
[0017] In order to define the trajectory of the support member 6, between the retracted and extended positions, the connection system between the rear portion 19 and the fastening component 13 is advantageously defined by a four-way articulation system. bars 20. The four-bar articulation system 20 comprises two levers 23, 24 articulated, at their ends, with the rear portion 19 and with the fixing member 13, around axes, which are horizontal and orthogonal to the direction 9.
[0018] Advantageously, the central distances of the levers 23.24 are different from each other, to define a rotation of the support member 6 along the extension/retraction path.
[0019] As shown in Figure 6, the frame 5 advantageously comprises a toggle lever element 25 to lock the support member 6 in the extended position. In particular, the lever element 25 connects an intermediate portion 26 of the lever 23 to the fastening member 13, has a stable locking position, overcoming a neutral position, to keep the lever 23 raised, and comprises a release element 27, the which has to be manually actuated to separate the lever element 25 from the stable locking position, to overcome the neutral, and thus allow the lever element 25 to bend and lower the lever 23.
[0020] Preferably, at least one elastic element 28 is provided, between the lever element 25 and the fastening member 13, to facilitate the release of the lever element, starting with the retraction position, after the release of the attachment 16. In all cases, manual override is required to bring the support member 6 beyond the dead center in the extended position.
[0021] As an alternative to the above, the fastening member 13 could be non-existent, so that the four-bar articulation system 20 and the lever element 25 can be directly coupled to the frame 2.
[0022] The support member 6 comprises a portion 32, which is arranged under the portion 11, considering the direction 8, and defines a seat 33 with an opening 34 made in the surface 7.
[0023] The frame 6 comprises a fastener 35, which is coupled to the support member 6 so as to rotate upward from a retracted position around an axis 36, which is horizontal and orthogonal to the direction 8 The fastener 35 ends with a hook element 37 having a groove 38, which is parallel to the axis 36, is open at its side ends and, when the fastener 35 is lifted, it can be engaged by an upper edge of the device 12. at the same time, the lower edge of the device 12 fits into a groove 41, parallel to the groove 38, also open at its lateral ends. Slot 38 is defined by a bearing element 42, which is disposed at the lower end of portion 32 and projects forward with respect to surface 7. Bearing element 42 is preferably defined by a projecting element. hidden, distinct from the support member 6, i.e. it can be moved and stowed in a housing 43 of the support member 6, so as to eliminate any projection on the surface 7. For example, the housing 43 is provided on the surface 7 at the end. lower end of the support member 6, and the support element 42 is articulated with said lower end, around an axis 45, parallel to the axis 36.
[0024] As shown in Figure 4, also the catch 35 is a concealable element, because, in its retracted position, it is, at least in part, housed in the seat 33, so as to substantially close the opening 34. In particular, the slot 38 faces the inner side of the support member 6. On the other hand, the fastener 35 has a surface 46 that remains substantially flush with the surface 7, so as not to compromise the bench's function and appearance. from panel 1.
[0025] With reference to Figure 6, the fastener 35 advantageously comprises two parts articulated with each other around an axis 47, parallel to the axis 36. One of these parts is defined by the hook element 37. The other, of these, pieces, is defined by a wall 48, articulated with the portion 32 around the axis 36. In order to restrict the movement of the two pieces, relative to each other, the hook element 37 is coupled to the portion 32, by means of an arm 49, which is preferably in the form of a fork, and remains fully housed in the seat 33 when the catch 35 is disposed in the retracted position. The opposite ends of the arm 49 are articulated with the hook element 37 and with the portion 32, around respective axes 50,51, parallel and spaced apart from the axes 36,47, so that the arm 49 and the wall 48 define, together, a four-bar hinge system to keep the slot 38 always facing downwards (i.e., towards the support member 42), regardless of the angle of elevation of the fastener 35, around the axis 36. the lifting of the fastener 35 with respect to the surface 7 can be carried out at a variable angle, so that the user can adapt the distance between the hook element 37 and the support element 42 to the actual height of the device 12.
[0026] Again with reference to Figure 5, frame 5 further comprises at least one preloaded elastic element 52 for pushing fastener 35 into the retracted position. For example, the elastic element 52 is defined by a leveling spring, disposed on the axis 36, between the catch 35 and the portion 32. Again, on the axis 36, a damping element 53 is preferably provided to decelerate the descent of clamp 35 towards the retracted position when device 12 is removed from frame 5.
[0027] The thrust exerted by the elastic element 52 tends to compress the device 12 between the hook element 37 and the support element 42, however, such thrust is not sufficient to counteract the accelerations that normally act on the device 12 during the vehicle travel, in particular in the event of an accident. As is also shown in Figure 7, in order to solve this problem, the frame 5 comprises a mechanical locking device 54, which can be actuated by means of a manual actuation control 55, coupled to the support member 6, to prevent that the catch 35 rises with respect to the determined angular position and thus stably locks the device 12 between the hook element 37 and the support element 42. In the illustrated example, the device 54 comprises: a rod 56, which it is articulated with an intermediate zone of the fastener 35, around an axis 57, parallel to the axis 36 and which extends further from the arm 49, inside the portion 32; and a slider 58, which is guided by portion 32, in the direction transverse to rod 56 and is actuated by control 55, so as to move between a first position, in which rod 56 is free to move, and a second position (not shown), in which rod 56 is locked by a portion 59 of slider 58. In particular, portion 59 has a notch which engages a corresponding notch of rod 56 to effect the locking.
[0028] Normally, the slider 58 is arranged in the first position and an intervention on the control 55 is necessary so that it can be moved to the second position. However, the configuration of the device 54 could be the opposite, so that the slider 58 is released in order to lift the catch 35 and engage the device 12.
[0029] In the illustrated example, the control is defined by a lever hinged to the portion 32, but it can also be defined by a button or a slider, sliding parallel to direction 8.
[0030] Advantageously, the structure 5 comprises an adjustment hinge 60, schematically shown in Figure 4, arranged between the rear portion 19 and the front surface 7, and thus defining a rotation of the portion 32, with the front surface 7, the catch 35 and the support element 42, so as to be able to orient the device 12 to the right or to the left, around an axis, which, for example, is substantially vertical or parallel to the direction 8. The hinge setting 60 could consist of a hinged joint, which would cause the free device 12 to also rotate slightly downwards and upwards.
[0031] As mentioned above, in order to use the structure 5, the user (the driver or passenger of the vehicle) must first move the support member 6 to the extended position, in which the support member 6 it remains automatically extended by the effect of the leverage element 25. At this point, the user can use the surface 7 as a rest for the sheets of paper or can attach the device 12. To obtain this second function, the user must, first, extract the support member 42 from the housing 43 and, while resting the lower edge of the device 12 in the slot 41, lift the catch 35 from the seat 33 to an angle sufficient to insert the upper edge of the device 12 into the slot 38. The elastic member 52 momentarily holds clamp 35 against device 12, while waiting for device 54 to be manually activated, via control 55.
[0032] Similarly, to remove device 12 from frame 5, it is necessary to deactivate device 54 and then slightly lift catch 35 to release from slot 38 the upper edge of device 12. the catch 35, the latter automatically returns to its retracted position, inside the seat 33. The support element 42 can be left in its projecting position, for example, to support the lower edge of the sheets resting on the surface. 7, or it can be rotated up and retracted back into housing 43.
[0033] From the above, it is evident that the structure 5 is perfectly integrated into the components of panel 1, by virtue of the fact that it houses at least part of the support member 6, in panel 1, and that it is housed by the minus, part of the fastener 35 on the support member 6. In particular, the frame 5 can perform different functions, i.e. a sheet or notepad support function, and a support function of the device 12. At the same time, the clamp 35 makes it possible to adapt the structure 5 to devices 12 of different heights.
[0034] The specific characteristics of the fastener 35 and the support element 42, and the presence of the device 54, even individually, contribute to making the retention of the device 12 stable and secure.
[0035] It is finally clear that the coupling and uncoupling operations of the device 12 are extremely simple.
[0036] The structure 5 is relatively light and has a relatively small number of components, but is, in all cases, designed to have a high resistance to shock and/or agitation. Furthermore, its dimensions are extremely small compared to known solutions, especially when the support member 6 is retracted and hidden in the panel 1, the functions performed by the structure 5 being uniform.
[0037] The fastening component 13 allows to have a structure 5, which can be coupled to the remaining part of the panel 1, either as additional equipment or as a modular element. For example, if the optional equipment is not installed, it can easily be replaced with a simple cladding cover or other device during panel assembly 1.
[0038] Finally, it is evident, from the above, that changes and variations can be made in the described structure 5, without escaping from the scope of protection of the present invention.
[0039] In particular, the support member 6 could be coupled to the remaining part of the panel 1, by means of connecting devices and locking devices, different from the four-bar articulation system 20 and the lever element 25.
[0040] Similarly, also the device 54 could be different, for example it could be associated with the hinge that connects the wall 48 with the portion 32.
[0041] Furthermore, the fastener 10 could be missing or replaced by another retaining element, to hold the sheets, for example a magnetic retaining element.
[0042] The support member 42 could be simply defined by a fixed appendix, relative to the support member 6, possibly with a different shape than that shown, but in any case being able to hold the lower edge of the leaves and the lower edge of the device 12. Similarly, the hook element 37 can be fixed, relative to the wall 48, and have a different shape than that shown.
