The second end 102 may be disposed opposite the first end 100 and may be fixedly disposed on the collet bridge 34. For example, the second end 102 may engage the collet bridge 34, and may have a hole that receives a fastener 104, such as a screw, that can attach the retaining bracket 28 to the collet bridge 34. The pad shield 26 and the retaining bracket 28 can cooperate to exert a force against the first and/or second sets of brake pads 22, 24. More specifically, the retaining bracket 28 can exert a force on the pad shield 26, which in turn can exert a force on the first and/or second sets of brake pads 22, 24 to help position the first and/or second sets of brake pads 22, 24 within the housing assembly 20 and inhibit movement relative to insert shield 26 to help extend friction material life and reduce noise. This configuration may allow the brake pad springs to be omitted from the brake caliper assembly 10. A brake pad spring may resemble a leaf spring and may be a separate component that can be provided on the third surface. 64 between a support plate and an insert shield. These brake pad springs can be difficult to see under a pad shield and can be misplaced or inadvertently omitted during assembly. Eliminating brake pad springs eliminates incorrect assembly of brake pad springs, reduces the number of parts supplied with a 10 brake caliper assembly, and reduces associated costs. Additionally, the pad shield 26 can be configured as a standardized component that can be used in different sets of brakes. Although exemplary embodiments have been described above, these embodiments are not intended to describe all possible forms of the invention. Rather, the words used in the specification are descriptive and not limiting words, and it is understood that various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Additionally, features from various embodiments can be combined to form other embodiments of the invention.
