DISPLAY DEVICE COMPRISING AT LEAST ONE MOBILE SCREEN FOR USE WITH A LAPTOP COMPUTER
The invention is in the field of display devices comprising one or more mobile screens and which can be used with computers such as laptops or with digital tablets.
There are cases fixedly or removably connected to computer screens and comprising one or two additional lateral screens which can be deployed from a retracted position in the case to a position deployed outside the case. The deployment out of the case is done by translation along an internal slide in the case. Once deployed, the additional screens can rotate forwards towards the user or backwards to place them in a position where they can be seen by a third party who is not in front of the main screen. Thus the mobile screen (s) will present an angle with the main screen of the computer by means of a rotation around an axis located on one of their vertical sides or can be rotated on themselves by 180 ° around a central horizontal axis so that they can be seen from the back of the main screen.
An example of such a device is given by document US2010 / 0124008 which describes a slide system with rails and carriages making it possible to remove additional screens from a case placed behind the main screen of a portable computer with little friction. The system further includes means for pivoting the additional screens along a vertical axis, but the additional screens are smaller than the main screen since they have a display area reduced by almost half. For reasons of comfort, in particular when the additional screens are used to make a presentation to third parties, it would be advantageous to have a device in which the additional screens have a size at least equal to that of the main screen.
Document US6532146 shows a case comprising two screens movable in translation. The case is removable and has means for hanging on the back of a laptop screen. The connection of the screens with the computer is via a port which can be of USB type. When the screens are retracted inside the case, an internal lock in the case cooperates with indentations carried by the
BE2015 / 5781 screens to ensure that the screens are kept in position in the case. Mobile screens slide out of the case to their deployment position using Teflon slides. The limit switch in the deployed position is marked by a lock cooperating with an indentation present in a hinge system. The hinges allow the screens to pivot around one of their vertical sides, for example towards the user. Unfortunately in such a device the screens are limited in their rotation due to the space generated by the case so that it is not possible to rotate them along their vertical axis at 180 ° to place them at the rear from the main screen. However, such a possibility of movement would be interesting to allow the user of the computer to make a presentation towards a person sitting in front of him.
Document US2006 / 0268500 shows a portable computer comprising two additional screens deployable by sliding from a retracted position at the rear of the main screen. The additional screens can then be rotated 180 ° along a central vertical axis to allow presentation to another user at the back of the main screen. Unfortunately this solution involves a complex display management system which implies that the vertical orientation of the screen in one direction or the other is taken into account.
There is therefore a need for a display device which is simple, which offers greater freedom of movement for additional side screens, mobile, and which is compatible with the use of screens of size similar to that of the screen of the computer with which it is associated.
The object of the invention is to provide a solution to at least one of the drawbacks of the prior art. In particular, the object of the invention is to propose a display device which is simple in design and in use, making it possible to rotate at least one additional screen 180 ° so as to place it behind the main screen, parallel on the main screen, in the folded position against the device case. The invention also aims to provide a display device for deploying screens of size similar to that of the main screen of the computer with which it is associated.
To this end, the invention relates to a display device for use with a computer, such as a laptop, or with a digital tablet, the device comprising a case and at least one screen movable in translation between a position
BE2015 / 5781 retracted according to which the mobile screen is contained at least partly in said case and a deployed position according to which the mobile screen is taken out of said case, the device is remarkable in that at least one mobile screen is connected to the case by a double hinge system.
According to particular embodiments, the invention may include one or other of the following characteristics, taken in isolation or in all possible combinations:
- The device includes two mobile screens.
- The device includes three screens, at least two of which are mobile.
- Each of the two mobile screens is connected to the case by a double hinge system.
- The device includes two mobile screens, one mobile screen is connected to the case by a double hinge system and the other mobile screen is connected to the case by a single hinge system.
The double hinge system comprises a first hinge and a second hinge connected together by at least one arm, preferably said double hinge system is dimensioned and configured to allow the mobile screen to be folded 180 ° towards the back of the case.
- The first hinge comprises a pivot, at least one end of which is capable of being received in a lock of the case.
The device comprises at least one lock having a first notch intended to cooperate with one end of a pivot of a double hinge system or of a single hinge system connecting one of the mobile screens to the case when said mobile screen is in the deployed position.
The device comprises at least one lock having a second notch intended to cooperate with one end of a pivot of a double hinge system or of a single hinge system connecting one of the mobile screens to the case when said mobile screen is in the retracted position.
The lock only has a notch.
The lock has two notches, a first and a second notch.
- The lock has two notches distributed along the length of the device so that the first notch is more eccentric than the second notch along the length of the device.
- The lock has two notches and the second notch is bottomless.
BE2015 / 5781
- The lock is resiliently mounted on the case, preferably in protruding protrusions, so as to allow a depression of said lock when one end of a pivot penetrates or emerges from a notch presented by said lock.
- The case shows at least one pair of growths, or ears, protruding on its side edge (s), at least one of the growths of each pair receives a lock.
- The first notch of the lock comprises at its bottom a relief adapted to cooperate with a corresponding relief shown by the end of the pivot in order to slow the free rotation of the pivot in the notch.
The first notch of the lock is arranged centered along the width of the case and the lock has a curved access ramp to the first notch so as to bring the mobile screen from an eccentric position relative to the width of the case when it is retracted to a centered position relative to the width of the case when it is deployed.
The second hinge comprises a pivot having at its end a relief adapted to cooperate with a corresponding relief shown by the end of a connecting piece to the mobile screen or of a notch receiving said pivot in order to prevent free rotation of the pivot.
The second hinge comprises a connecting piece to the movable screen mounted elastically so as to allow a depression of said piece during the rotation of said pivot.
- The second hinge has at least one pivot having at its end a relief adapted to cooperate with a corresponding relief shown by a notch on at least sides of the movable screen.
- The second hinge is a notched hinge.
- The device has at least one foot, preferably the foot extends from the back of the case.
- The additional screen (s) are similar in size to the main screen of the computer or tablet with which the device is intended to be associated.
As will be understood from reading the definition which has just been given, the invention is remarkable according to a first aspect in that it offers the possibility by means of a simple device of performing a rotation of 180 ° of at least one of the additional screens along a vertical axis, until placing it at the back of the case.
BE2015 / 5781
The screen does not change orientation which eliminates the need to implement a complicated system for managing the display of images.
According to a second aspect, the invention is remarkable in that it comprises a locking system for blocking in the deployed position and / or in the retracted position of the additional mobile screen (s). The system comprises one or more locks having one or two notches intended to receive the two ends of the pivot of the first hinge in order to block the screen in the deployed position and allow the screen to rotate on the one hand or to block the screen in the retracted position on the other hand. Locks therefore have a dual function as both a latch element and a pivot link.
In a third aspect, the additional screens are refocused relative to the thickness of the case in the deployed position, which improves user comfort when viewing the additional screens on the one hand.
According to a fourth aspect the rotation of the screens around the first and / or the second hinge is not free but must be initiated by the user. To do this, the ends of the pivots have cooperating reliefs with complementary reliefs at the level of the first notches of the latches and / or of the elements for connecting to the screens.
According to a fifth aspect the device is self-supporting, that is to say that its weight is not carried by the screen of the computer with which it is associated, but by a foot which is deployable at the rear of the device.
The invention will be well understood and other aspects and advantages will appear clearly on reading the following description given with reference to the attached drawing boards on which:

In the description which follows the terms "lower", "upper", "front", "rear" "left" and "right" will be understood with respect to the general orientation of the device as placed at the rear of the screen of a portable computer facing the user of said computer.
The invention is described here in relation to a laptop, but the device can also be used with a non-laptop computer, a digital tablet or a hybrid tablet.
Reference will firstly be made to FIG. 1 showing a portable computer 1 equipped with the device 3 according to the invention arranged at the rear of the main screen 5 of the computer 1. The device 3 of the invention will allow add one or two additional screens (7, 9) to this computer. The screens are said to be mobile in that they can be deployed laterally, on either side of the main screen 5. The invention will be described here in relation to a device showing two additional screens but will be adapted without difficulty by the skilled in the art to a device showing a single additional screen.
The device 3 according to the invention comprises a case 11 able to receive at least partially the additional screens (7, 9). The case 11 is preferably dimensioned to receive the additional screens in full. The additional screens (7, 9) are movable in translation from a retracted position according to which they are contained at least partly in the case 11 to a deployed position according to which they are out of the case 11, and vice- vice versa. The two mobile screens (7, 9) are preferably deployable individually from one another. The device 3 is remarkable in that at least one of the mobile screens (7,9), for example the two mobile screens (7, 9) are connected to the case 11 by a double hinge system.
BE2015 / 5781
FIG. 2 illustrates the device 3 according to the invention, seen from the front and not associated with a computer. The mobile screens are retracted and are contained in the case 11.
FIG. 3 shows the device 3 according to the invention seen from the rear and not associated with a portable computer. The right movable screen 7 was deployed and folded over the back of the case 11, against the case 11 thanks to its double hinge system 13 connecting it to the case. Its folding back of the device implies a 180 ° rotation of the mobile screen 7. It is placed in a position parallel to that of the main screen of the computer (not shown) with which the device is associated while allowing a rear view of the device 3.
FIG. 4 shows the device 3 according to the invention with its two right mobile screens 7 and left 9, deployed and turned backwards in the "triangle" configuration. The screens (7, 9) are preferably held in position relative to one another by means of magnets (not shown) present on their vertical side not connected to the case. Advantageously, the lateral edges of the screens intended to join have a bevel forming an angle of approximately 30 °. According to one embodiment of the invention, only one of the two mobile screens (7, 9) is connected to the case by a double hinge system 13. That is to say that a mobile screen 7 is connected to the case 11 by a double hinge system 13 and the other mobile screen 9 is connected to the case by a simple hinge system. Preferably, the mobile screen 7 connected to the case by a double hinge system is the right side screen.
However, according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the two screens (7,9) are connected to the case by a double hinge system 13.
The double hinge system 13, shown in FIG. 5, is configured to allow rotation of the screen 7, when it is deployed, by 180 ° along a vertical axis from its initial position, parallel to the case and making facing the user, to a folded position on the rear face of the case.
The double hinge system 13 according to the invention comprises two parallel axes of rotation (A, B), associated with a first hinge 15 and a second hinge 17 respectively.
Preferably, the first hinge 15 allows rotation around a first vertical axis A disposed at the outlet of the case 11 and the second hinge allows rotation around a second vertical axis B disposed on one side of a screen mobile (7, 9),
BE2015 / 5781 for example as shown in the right movable screen 7. Advantageously, the two hinges (15, 17) are spaced from each other by at least one arm 19, preferably two arms 19. Optionally the rear face of the case 11 comprises at least one magnet (not shown intended to hold in position the mobile screen (7, 9) when it is folded backwards to 180 °.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the first hinge 15 comprises at least one lock 21, preferably two locks 21 intended to receive the ends 23 of the pivot 25 of said hinge. As we will see in detail, the locks 21 are preferably configured to block the translational movement of at least one mobile screen (7, 9), preferably of the two mobile screens (7,9) and maintain them either in the retracted position, either in the deployed position. The latches 21 are preferably parts which are mounted elastically, for example on a spring
27. Preferably, the latches 21 are arranged at the ends of slides 29 internal to the case 11 in protuberances 35, or ears, of the case 11, on the lateral sides of the sheath formed by the case.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention illustrated in FIG. 9, the case 11 shows at least one pair of protuberances 35, or ears, placed projecting on one of its lateral edges, preferably on each of its edges lateral and at least one of the protuberances 35 of each pair receives a latch 21. Preferably the two protuberances of each pair receive a latch 21. The case is in rectangular form and each of the corners will have a protruding protrusion 35.
In fact, the case 11 can comprise two pairs of lower and upper slides 29 guiding the ends 23 of the pivot 25 of the first hinge (s) 15 towards the latches 21. Advantageously, the device 3 comprises at least one pair of lower latches 21 and higher. The locks 21 are arranged opposite one another at the outlet of the case 11. Preferably, the device 3 comprises two pairs of lower and upper locks 21. The pairs are arranged on either side of the case 11 taken along its length on the lateral sides of the case 11.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figures 5 and 6a each lock 21 shows a first notch 31 intended to receive one end 23 of the pivot 25 of the first hinge 15 when the movable screen (7, 9) is in deployed position. Thus the two ends 23 of the pivot 25 are inserted into the first notches 31 of said latches 21 when the movable screen (7, 9) is in the deployed position.
BE2015 / 5781
This insertion is advantageously done in an elastic manner. Thus, preferably the lock (s) 21 are mounted in the case 11 by elastic means 27, for example on a spring 27, authorizing a depression of said lock 21 when one end 23 of a pivot 25 penetrates or emerges from a notch (31, 33) presented by said latch 21. However, those skilled in the art may envisage that the pivot axis of the first hinge consists of two portions of axes mounted on a spring.
Preferably, at least one lock 21, preferably all the locks 21 show a second notch (33, 51) intended to receive an end 23 of the pivot 25 of the first hinge 15 when the movable screen (7, 9) is in position retracted, as shown in Figure 7.
When the movable screen 7, intended to deploy to the right of the user, is in the retracted position, the ends 23 of the pivot 25 of its first hinge 15 are retained in the second notches (33, 51) of the locks 21 located to the left of the device 3. The right screen 7 is deployed by a translational movement towards the right, along the case 11, preferably along at least one internal slide 29 in the case 11 which guides the ends 23 of the pivot 25 of the first hinge 15 towards the first notches 31 of the latches 21 arranged to the right of the device 3.
The first notches 31 will stop the translational movement of the screen 7 and block it in the deployed position. The rotation of the screen 7 about the pivot axis 25 of the first hinge 15 is made by a rotation of the ends 23 of the pivot 25 in the first notches 31 of the latches. It is therefore understood that the latches 21 are an integral part of the first hinge 15.
In addition to having a double function of lock and hinge, the locks 21 according to the invention are preferably designed to be able to act on the two movable screens (7, 9) right and left The invention is remarkable in that the locks arranged on the left of the device 3 will have a lock function on the right mobile screen 7 in the retracted position and a lock position on the left mobile screen 9 in the deployed position and vice versa.
Optionally, access to the first 31 and second 33 notches of the latches, for example from the internal slides 29, is made by ramps (37, 39) on the surface
BE2015 / 5781 of the locks 21. These ramps (37, 39) will facilitate the elastic insertion of the lock 21 when the pivots 25 move in the direction of the notches.
According to a preferred variant of the invention illustrated in FIG. 6b, the second notch 51 is bottomless and means 53 for holding the pivots 25 in the notch 51 are provided. These means 53 may be constituted by a bulge on the side wall of the lock 21.
According to a possible implementation, the first notches 31 are placed centered along the width of the case 11 and the access ramp 37 to the first notch 31 is curved so as to bring the mobile screen (7, 9) from an eccentric position relative to the width of the case 11 when it is retracted to a centered position relative to the width of the case 11 when it is deployed.
Preferably, when the lock 21 has two notches (31, 33 or 51), these are distributed along the length of the device so that the first notch 31 is more eccentric than the second notch (33, 51) according to the length of the device
3. Such an arrangement makes it possible to avoid a retracted screen being able to impede the rotation of a deployed screen when both are in connection with the same pair of locks.
According to an embodiment of the invention not shown, the lock has only a first notch. The mobile screens are retained in position in the case by a lock system internal to the case, independent of the lock of the first hinge. The internal lock comprises for example a spring-mounted element, ideally in one of the slides, and intended to be inserted in a complementary indentation presented by one of the horizontal sides of the mobile screen associated with said internal lock.
Optionally, the bottom of the first notches 31 has at least one relief (not shown) intended to cooperate with a complementary relief presented by the end of the pivot that the notch is intended to receive so as to avoid free rotation of the screen around the pivot axis. The depth or height of this relief being determined to slow the free rotation of the hinge without prohibiting it when sufficient force is exerted by the user for the rotation of the hinge.
BE2015 / 5781
Advantageously, the double hinge system 13 according to the invention comprises a second axis of rotation B associated with a second hinge 17. In one embodiment of the invention illustrated in FIG. 5, the hinge 17 comprises a pivot in the form of two lugs 41 placed on either side of the horizontal sides of the mobile screen (7, 9) and intended to cooperate with connecting pieces 43 or complementary notches carried by said mobile screen so as to form an axis of pivot. In the embodiment presented in Figures 5 and 7, the movable screen 7 will have cavities 45 receiving the connecting pieces 43 complementary to the lugs 41. The connecting pieces 43 are preferably mounted resiliently so that they can press into the cavity 45. The elastic force bringing the part back into the non-pressed position.
Preferably, the second pivot axis is remarkable in that it comprises means for holding the screen in position intended to prevent its rotation when the user has chosen the position in which he wants to place the screen. Thus the pins 41 will show a rib intended to penetrate a complementary groove of the connecting piece 43 arranged opposite, or vice versa. When the user turns the screen around the second axis of rotation B, the rib will emerge from the groove. This rotation clearance will push the connecting piece 43 into the cavity
45. The elastic means 47 associated with the part will exert an elastic return pressure making it possible to keep the screen enclosed between the two pins 41. Advantageously, the pins 41 are carried by the arms 19 of the double hinge system 13.
According to a preferred embodiment, illustrated in FIG. 7, the second hinge does not comprise elastic connecting parts but is in the form of a notch hinge system 55. Portions of axes having a relief at their end are inserted in notches with complementary relief. Said reliefs, or notches, will cooperate to allow the holding in position at a given angle of the hinge. The hinge can nevertheless be actuated by the user who will apply sufficient force to rotate the hinge.
When a simple hinge system is implemented in the invention, it comprises a pivot axis connected to the mobile screen (7, 9) preferably to the left mobile screen 9. The ends 49 of the pivot pin will cooperate with locks 21
BE2015 / 5781 nestled in the protrusions 35 projecting from the case similar to the pivot of the first hinge, as can be understood in FIG. 8.
The device according to the invention can be fixed on the back of the laptop screen by any means. Preferably the case 11 has on its front face at least one magnet 51 for fixing and / or holding it in position on the rear of the computer screen as illustrated in FIG. 2 showing the device according to the invention with the two retracted screens.
Advantageously, the case 11 is dimensioned so as to be able to be placed on the support on which the computer is placed so that the weight of the device is not carried by said computer screen. Preferably, the device 3 comprises a foot 53 which can be deployed to prevent it from tilting backwards as illustrated in FIG. 3. More preferably, the foot 53 is designed to be placed under the screens (7, 9) so as to do not interfere with their rotation towards the rear of the device 3. Preferably, the foot has an offset axis of rotation, allowing it to land lower in a vertical direction than the underside of the case.
The connection of mobile screens to the computer or tablet is preferably done by USB port, for example by USB2 or USB3 port. The case therefore contains at least one screen connection mat, joining female USB ports arranged for example at the protuberances of the case.
