Truck trailer
The present invention relates to a truck trailer and a method for drying cargo with a truck trailer.
Raw materials from, for example, the soil or lime extraction are generally supplied moist, after which they are transported to a location for processing to be dried and processed there. This is a time-consuming process where the time required to dry the raw materials cannot be used for other activities. It is therefore the object of the present invention to overcome this drawback or to provide a suitable alternative.
To this end, the invention comprises a truck trailer, comprising a walled loading floor, provided with at least one air delivery opening and an air supply channel opening onto the at least one air delivery opening, provided with at least one air intake opening. The walled loading floor is suitable for loading the load onto the loading floor, after which air flows from the air intake opening via the air supply channel through the air delivery opening. In this way the load can be dried by means of the air flowing past.
By a truck trailer is meant a trailer that can be coupled behind a truck, as well as a combination of such a trailer with a towing vehicle, such as a truck. The semi-trailer can be a detachable semi-trailer or relate to a loading part permanently connected to the truck.
In one embodiment, the truck trailer is provided with a plurality of air delivery openings, wherein the several air delivery openings are arranged substantially distributed over the entire loading floor, in particular such that an equal air delivery takes place over the entire floor surface. The openings can be evenly distributed over the loading floor for this purpose, but a distribution whereby the density of openings increases as a distance to be covered for the air from the air receiving opening is larger is also conceivable. As a result, the entire loading floor of the trailer can be used efficiently for drying the load, whereby the load is generally evenly distributed over the loading floor. The loading floor can also be moisture-permeable for this purpose.
In a further embodiment of the present invention, the at least one air delivery opening has a diameter of less than 500 µm, preferably less than 250 µm and in particular of about 100 µm. These dimensions are smaller than the average size of the load to be dried, so that it cannot pass through the openings and the load remains on the loading floor. The openings are large enough to allow sufficient air flow through the openings.
In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the air intake opening of the truck trailer comprises a coupling for coupling the air intake opening to the outlet of a truck. Coupling the air intake opening with the outlet offers the special advantage that the hot exhaust gases from the truck can be used for efficient drying of the cargo in the truck, and that these gases are already produced while driving. For example, exhaust gases are around 400 degrees when they leave the truck's exhaust pipe.
In one embodiment the coupling is flexible and / or the coupling consists of rotatable parts, for keeping the outlet and the trailer coupled while the truck is moving. The truck and the trailer can move relative to each other, so that the whole can go through bends without any problems. It is therefore advantageous to design the coupling flexibly in order to be able to maintain a coupling also during a bend.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the air supply channel is provided with a fan for moving the air from the air intake opening to the at least one air delivery opening. The fan can help to distribute air or exhaust gases through the air supply duct to effect the supply of air or exhaust gases over the entire loading floor. The fan can also be used when the trailer is not connected to the outlet of a truck, for example to suck in ambient air. This means that the trailer can also function on its own if the trailer is parked somewhere without a truck or if the truck does not produce any exhaust gases.
In one embodiment, the loading floor is provided with a double bottom, for forming a distribution chamber for the air. The double floor ensures an even distribution of air or exhaust gases over / under the loading floor, and therefore for an even drying of the load in the truck trailer.
In another embodiment, the air supply channel is substantially under the loading floor. By placing the air supply duct and any other additives under the loading floor, the extra space required for drying the load is limited as much as possible.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the trailer is provided with a controllable outlet valve, for venting air from the trailer. The air or exhaust gases that are supplied to the trailer must also be able to leave the trailer. This is preferably done via a controllable outlet valve, so that, for example, the valve can remain closed until a desired temperature or pressure is reached, in order to subsequently open the valve and realize flow of new air or gases. An additional opening and optional valve could also be provided for discharging excess moisture, for example through condensation by the hot gases. These would preferably be in the lowest part of the trailer.
In another embodiment, the air supply opening is provided with a controllable supply valve, for controlling the amount of air supplied. The amount of air to be supplied is also preferably controlled via a control valve. The supply valve and the output valve can, for example, be operated in combination with each other to achieve better control of the pressure or temperature in the trailer.
The present invention also relates to a method for drying cargo with a truck trailer according to one of the preceding claims, comprising the steps of coupling the air supply opening with the truck's outlet during transport, supplying the truck's exhaust gases to the charge through the at least one air delivery port and drying of the charge through the heat of the exhaust gases.
In a preferred method, the exhaust gases are also used to apply soot particles from the exhaust gases to the charge to be dried. For example in the glass industry it is advantageous to add a certain amount of soot to the basic raw materials in order to obtain a correct coloring or discoloration of the glass. This also results in a better glass structure. The lorries produce soot particles while driving, whereby application to the load places less strain on the environment, and the glass industry has to add less soot during glass production.
The invention will now be elucidated with reference to the following non-limitative figure 1, which schematically shows a truck trailer according to the present invention.
Figure 1 shows a truck trailer (1), comprising a walled loading floor (2), provided with a plurality of air discharge openings (3); an air supply channel (4) opening onto the air discharge openings, provided with at least one air receiving opening (5). The air discharge openings can extend substantially over the entire loading floor. The air receiving opening is provided in Figure 1 with a flexible coupling (6) for coupling the opening and the air supply channel with the outlet (7) of a truck (8). The air supply channel (4) is optionally provided with a fan (9), for moving the air through the air supply channel, and optionally sucking in air through the air supply opening. The air supply channel can also serve as a double bottom, such that supplied air can spread over substantially the entire loading floor.
The embodiment in Figure 1 also shows an operable outlet valve (10), for discharging air from the trailer and an operable supply valve (11), for controlling the amount of air supplied to the air supply opening.
During driving with the truck trailer in Figure 1, the air supply opening is coupled to the outlet of a truck and exhaust gases from the truck are supplied to the load (12) of the trailer through the at least one air supply opening. The load is then dried by the heat of the exhaust gases. During driving, soot particles from the exhaust gases can also be applied to the load and the residence time of the gases and the temperature of the gases in the trailer can be controlled by the controlled opening of a controllable outlet valve (10).
