A MOUNTING SYSTEM FOR A HELMET
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a mounting system for a helmet. In addition, the invention relates to a helmet comprising such a fastening system.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The main purpose of wearing a helmet is to prevent injuries. The fastening system of a helmet is therefore very important and has a major impact not only on comfort, but also on safety.
Therefore, many helmet manufacturers have designed systems that provide advanced fastening systems to optimize both safety and comfort.
Most of these mounting systems include an adjustment mechanism with which the wearer can tighten or loosen the mounting system while the wearer has the helmet on his head. Such an adjustment mechanism usually comprises a knob or other shape that grips the wearer to adjust the tension on his head, the knob being connected to a ratchet wheel or a screw, e.g. the Rollsys system from Lazer Sport.
A general drawback of the above mounting systems is that the adjusting mechanism requires action from the wearer to tighten or loosen the mounting system until the correct size is obtained. US6425142 addresses the above problem and proposes a fastening system that includes, in addition to a size adjustment mechanism, an elastic element or a spring for positioning the shell against the occipital part of the wearer's head to stabilize the helmet against the wearer's head.
However, action from the wearer is still needed. In addition, the spring pushes the adjustment mechanisms against the occipital part of the wearer's head, making the system asymmetrically tighter and creating an uneven pressure distribution on the head.
Further disadvantages are that such an adjusting mechanism combined with an elastic element or a spring is clearly visible and aesthetically unattractive and that elastic elements lose their natural quality over time.
In view of the above, a first object of the present invention is to provide a helmet mounting system that requires only limited action or even no action from the wearer to make it tighter or looser to the right size.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a fastening system for a helmet which allows for better symmetrical tightening and which provides an improved pressure distribution on the wearer's head, which results in a better overall comfort.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a fastening system for a helmet that is less visible and / or aesthetically more attractive.
The present invention satisfies the above objectives by proposing a fastening system with a tightening means comprising a tensioning system and wherein both the forehead belt and the rear basket are tightened by a cable through the tensioning system.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a fastening system for a helmet comprising a forehead strap, a rear basket and a pull-on means for putting on the forehead strap and the rear basket along the head of a wearer, characterized in that the pull-up means has a clamping system and a fastening system attached to the forehead strap. cable, the tensioning system tightening the forehead strap through the cable.
In addition, the present invention relates to a helmet comprising a shell and such a mounting system attached to the shell.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES FIG. 1 illustrates an embodiment of a mounting system according to the present invention. FIG. 2 illustrates a spring and cable in a sleeve as can be used in a mounting system according to the present invention.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In the context of the present invention, a helmet covers all types of helmets that use a fastening system, such as sports helmets, safety helmets, soldier helmets, etc.
According to a first embodiment of the present invention, a helmet mounting system is provided that provides a forehead belt (4), a rear basket (5) and a pull-on means for putting on the forehead belt and the rear basket along the head of a wearer, characterized in that the tensioning means comprises a tensioning system (1) and a cable (2) connected to the forehead strap, wherein the tensioning system pulls the forehead strap through the cable.
By tightening the forehead strap by means of a clamping system via a cable connected to the forehead strap and the clamping system, the fastening system requires only limited action by the wearer to make the helmet tighter or looser in order to obtain the correct size.
By tightening the forehead strap through a clamping system via a cable attached to the forehead strap and the clamping system, the fastening system requires only limited action or even no action from the wearer to make the helmet tighter or looser to obtain the correct size. After pushing the forehead system's forehead belt (and rear basket) away to place the helmet on the head, the retracting force of the tensioning system will cause tension in the cable and in the forehead belt.
Another advantage is that the pressure along the wearer's head is spread over essentially the entire circumference of the head because the other object of the present invention is to provide a helmet mounting system that allows for better symmetrical tightening and that provides an improved constant pressure distribution on the wearer's head, which results in a better overall comfort.
In an embodiment according to the present invention, the clamping system may comprise a spring. The spring will attempt to retract and automatically adjust the mounting system to the size of the wearer's head.
In an embodiment according to the present invention, the cable can be movably connected to the rear basket. As a result, both the rear basket and the cable connected to the forehead belt and the tensioning system can be more easily held in the correct position, which moreover results in a better pressure distribution on the wearer's head. The cable can be connected to the rear basket by means of any holding means (6) that allows movement of the cable independently of the rear basket.
In a specific embodiment of the present invention, the spring may be a coil spring, preferably a coil of constant force. Such a coil of constant force is a coil of spring in which the force exerted over its trajectory is constant. In general, springs of constant force are constructed as a spring steel ribbon that is rolled up so that the spring is relaxed when it is fully rolled up. When it is unrolled, the retracting force mainly comes from the part of the ribbon near the roll.
Because the geometry of that area remains virtually constant when the spring rolls out, the resulting force is almost constant. The advantage of using such a constant-force coil spring in the fastening system according to the present invention can therefore be that the pressure along the wearer's head is independent of the size of the head.
In an embodiment according to the present invention and as an alternative to a spring, the clamping system may comprise a threaded bolt engaging a threaded part to which the cable is attached. The bolt can be made of very light metal or plastic.
In an embodiment according to the present invention, the head of the bolt can be a gearing wheel. Such a gear wheel is very easy to turn with your finger in one direction or the other in order to adjust the tension on the cable.
In an embodiment according to the present invention, the cable can be made of elastic material.
In addition, the present invention provides a helmet comprising a shell and a mounting system as described above and attached to the shell. The forehead belt and the back basket can be attached to the scale. The clamping system can be attached to the rear basket or preferably to the tray.
In the latter case, the clamping system can be located in a tube (3) that is placed in the shell, so that the fixing system is less visible and the helmet is aesthetically more attractive. The sleeve can be an injection molded plastic part that is designed as a housing for the clamping system.
In an embodiment according to the present invention, the forehead belt and the rear basket can be connected to the shell in a removable manner by means of hangers (7). In this way the fastening system can easily be removed from the tray for cleaning or storage.
