    BOX WITH SLIDING PARTS FOR PACKAGING AND PRESENTING ITEMS
    This invention relates to a box suitable for packaging and presenting articles, comprising a box body provided for receiving one or more articles, and lid means provided for covering at least a part of the box body. In particular, this invention relates to a box for packaging and presenting chocolate products, such as, for example, chocolates, cosmetics or perfumery products, and jewelery.
    Almost all items that are sold in a store or specialty store are packed. In the case of pralines, for example, this can be done in various ways. The most common method of packaging is that in which a number of chocolates are packaged in a (decorated or not decorated) folding box or ballotin. Such packages are usually opened and closed a number of times, and this until the box is empty, after which it is usually thrown away. Another method of packaging is that in which the packaging consists of two separate parts, namely a box body and a separate lid. Such packaging is previously used as a luxury packaging, and because of its appearance is usually kept for the purpose of storing other items.
    Boxes also exist where the lid is hingedly connected to the box body. Furthermore, European patent publication EP 1 538 098 describes a box body with a lid slidable over the box body.
    Despite the fact that the known boxes generally work satisfactorily, they have the disadvantage that they often present the packaged articles less well to a consumer because in many cases the lid will form a (visual) barrier. The present invention therefore has for its object to provide a box which, on the one hand, allows articles to be packaged and, on the other hand, once opened, to present the articles to the consumer in a special way.
    The object of the invention is achieved by providing a box suitable for packaging and presenting articles, comprising a box body provided for receiving one or more articles, and lid means provided for covering at least a part of the box body, wherein said cover means comprise a first and second cover part slidable over the box body, each of which can be slid between a retracted and extended position, said cover parts being tiltable in their extended position to an end position in which the cover part extends transversely to the box body. Both cover parts are preferably provided to cover one half of the box body each in the pushed-in position. Because the cover parts extend transversely to the box body in their end position, a table-shaped unit will be formed, as it were, the box body resting on both cover parts. In this way the box according to the invention offers a unique presentation function for the articles contained in the box body.
    In a preferred embodiment of the box according to the invention, the box body comprises a bottom wall for receiving one or more articles, bounded by an opposite front wall and rear wall and two opposite side walls.
    In a more preferred embodiment of the box according to the invention, the box body can be moved by tilting the lid parts between a first position wherein the bottom wall of the box body extends in a first horizontal plane, and a second position, wherein the bottom wall of the box body extends in a second, horizontal plane different from the first. The first position is that in which the cover parts are in their extended position, whereby the box opening is therefore free. This first position can therefore also be considered as the open position of the box. In the second position due to the tilting, the bottom wall will extend at a certain distance from the supporting surface, this position is therefore regarded as the presentation position of the box.
    According to a special embodiment of the box according to the invention, each cover part comprises a support wall bounded by an opposite cover wall and bottom wall and two opposite side walls.
    In a more special embodiment of the box according to the invention, the cover part comprises at least one guide channel, and the box body comprises at least one guide element displaceable in the guide channel, a part of said guide channel being provided for receiving the guide element during the tilting of the box. cover part. Preferably, the two opposite side walls of the cover part each comprise a guide channel, one end of which is bounded by the support wall and the other end by an end part, said end part being provided to receive the guide element during the tilting of the cover part. cover part. In particular, the guide element is formed by a circular protrusion, and the end part is of semicircular shape. The guide element is preferably made of plastic. In a preferred embodiment of the box according to the invention two pairs are provided per box, each with two opposite guide elements, the one pair being movable in the guide channels of the one cover part, and the other pair being movable in the guide channels of the other cover part.
    In an alternative embodiment, the above-mentioned guide channels can be provided in the box body, while the guide elements displaceable in the guide channels are provided on the cover parts.
    In a particularly advantageous embodiment of the box according to the invention, the said bottom wall of each cover part comprises a support edge on which the box body rests when the cover parts are in their end position.
    In the box according to the invention, the box body and / or the cover parts are preferably made of cardboard, preferably cardboard with a thickness between 1 and 3 mm. Furthermore, the box can be provided with a decorative coating layer, such as for example gold foil, paint layer in matte or glossy version, ...
    In order to further clarify the features of this invention and to indicate additional advantages and details thereof, a more detailed description of the packaging box according to the invention now follows. It is clear that nothing in the following description can be interpreted as a limitation of the protection claimed for the invention in the claims.
    In this description reference is made by reference numerals to the accompanying drawings, in which: figure 1 is a perspective view of a box according to the present invention in its closed position, the cover parts being in their retracted position; Figure 2 is a perspective view of the box according to the invention in its open position with the cover parts in their extended position; figure 3 shows the tilting of the cover parts when they are in their extended position; Figure 4: is a perspective view of the box in its presentation position with the two lid parts in their end position extending transversely to the box-shaped body.     The box (1) according to the present invention and as represented, inter alia, in Figures 1 to 4 is suitable for packaging and presenting articles, such as, for example, pralines, biscuits, cosmetics and / or perfumery products, jewelery and the like.
    The box (1) is composed of three basic parts, in particular a box body (2) provided for receiving one or more articles, a first cover part (3) and a second cover part (4). The different parts are in principle made from cardboard of 1 to 3 mm. However, it is evident that the different parts can also be made of other materials, e.g. plastic. The different parts can also be mutually manufactured from a different material. The box can further be provided with a printing or decorative covering layer.
    The box body (2) is composed of a bottom wall (5) for receiving one or more articles, which is bounded by an opposite front wall (6) and rear wall (7) and two opposite side walls (8 and 9) . Each cover part (3, 4) is made up of a support wall (10), which is bounded by an opposite cover wall (11) and bottom wall (12) and two opposite side walls (13 and 14).
    Characteristic of the box (1) according to the invention is that it can be moved from an open position to a presentation position in which the box will attract attention to the articles contained in the box body (2). To make this possible, both the first (3) and second cover part (4) are slidable over the box body (2), and this between a retracted and extended position, said cover parts (3, 4) being tiltable in their extended position towards an end position in which the cover part (3, 4) extends transversely to the box body (2). The various steps that the box goes through from a closed position to the presentation position are shown in Figures 1 to 4.
    In the retracted position (as represented in Figure 1), the cover parts will cover the opening of the box-shaped body (2). In this position the box (1) is in its closed position. The dimensions of the cover parts are chosen such that they each cover half the box opening.
    By now moving the cover parts (3, 4) from a retracted position to an extended position, the box opening becomes free and the articles received in the box-shaped body (2) are accessible. When the two cover parts (3, 4) are in their extended position, the box (1) is in its open position (see Fig. 2).
    Once the open position is reached, it becomes possible to tilt the two cover parts (3, 4) (see Fig. 3) to an end position in which the cover part (3, 4) extends transversely to the box body (2). Once the two cover parts (3, 4) have reached their end position (see Fig. 4), the box (1) is in its presentation position. In this position the box-shaped body (2) will rest (support) on a support edge (19) (visible in Figure 7). In order to form the supporting edge (19), the bottom wall (12) of each cover part (3, 4) is provided with a cut-out along its entire length as shown in Figure 7. The top edge of the bottom wall (12) will form the support edge (19). The height of the bottom wall (12) is smaller than that of the cover wall (11)
    In order to make shifting and tilting possible, the side walls (13 and 14) of the cover parts (3, 4) are provided with a guide channel (15, 16) in which a guide element (17) is provided on the box body (2). ) (see Fig. 5).
    Each guide channel (15, 16) is bounded at its one end by the support wall (10) and at its other end by an end part (18). The end part can be considered as the tilting point and has such a shape to receive the guide element and allow it to tilt the cover part around the guide element (17). The guide element (17) can for instance be formed by a circular protuberance, while the end part (18) is of semi-circular design. Naturally, other forms that make a tilting movement possible also come into consideration. The guide element (17) is preferably made of plastic. In practice, per pair (1) two pairs of two opposite guide elements (17) are provided, one pair being movable in the guide channels (15, 16) of one cover part (3) and the other pair movable in the guide channels (15, 16) of the other cover part (4).
    Because the cover parts are tilted so that they will extend transversely to the box body, they no longer form an obstacle. Moreover, once the two cover parts are in their end position, the articles packed in the box are presented in a special way, because the box part will extend at a certain height from the underlying surface, so that a presentation table is formed.
