Conveyor and method for manufacturing thereof
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to a conveyor driven by a chain and comprising: - a profile part bent in its longitudinal direction in the form of a desired path; a number of rolling carriages each provided with a number of wheels for guiding the rolling carriage along the profile part; and - coupling means for coupling a trolley with the chain.
The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing such a conveyor.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Conveyor belts or conveyors are known which are used on a large scale in industry, for example in the production of cars and electronics, the processing of food and medicines, and in the packaging industry. Such a conveyor can be driven by a conveyor chain for which a roller chain is used which is made up of links, pins and rollers. Due to the fact that the links are mutually pivotable, the chain can bend in a plane perpendicular to the pins so that it can make turns in that plane, for example to allow the conveyor to rise and fall. In a so-called 'side bow' chain, relatively large clearances are deliberately arranged between the components so that the chain can also bend, albeit to a limited extent, in a plane parallel to the pins, for example to allow the conveyor to make a lateral bend . General cargo or materials can thus be guided along a route with bends and rising and falling sections.
The present applicant is now a developer and producer of chain-driven conveyors. Such a conveyor comprises transport wings or plates which are mutually connected by means of the chain and thus form a transport surface or plate track. The basis of such a conveyor is formed by a metal frame that can be assembled from modules that are mutually combined into a desired arrangement. With such a modularly constructed conveyor it is possible to combine turns, ascent and descent in a single path that can be relatively long with only a single drive.
However, the drive with a roller chain has its limitations. With higher loads, such as with heavier piece goods or materials to be transported and / or longer trajectories and / or greater ascending and descending heights and / or smaller lateral bend radii, such as with a spiral trajectory, the pins are heavily loaded, which leads to relatively rapid wear, and possibly even breakage. Furthermore, the chain requires regular lubrication and maintenance. The chain is also relatively susceptible to contamination or attack by, for example, paint, powder, acids and other chemicals, abrasives, glass grit, metal shavings and so on.
There is therefore a need for a conveyor which, with greater loads and in particular with vertical spiral trajectories with relatively small bend radiuses and relatively large heights, does not have the above-mentioned problems, or at least to a substantially lesser extent. The present invention now provides for this.
Summary of the invention
The invention provides a conveyor according to claim 1 and a method according to claim 4. Advantages are that the link chain is very strong, very flexible in two directions, so that relatively sharp bends in two directions are possible, and requires little maintenance and no lubrication. A reliable coupling of the trolleys with the chain can also be obtained, whereby the chain can pivot in the two directions and remain well centered everywhere and at all times. The coupling can herein be established, for example, by means of a screw or pin connection, but preferably by means of a snap connection or a comparable connection. The term "coupling" is used in its broadest sense in the context of the present invention and includes all variants between, directly or indirectly, "releasable coupling" and "fixed connecting". The term "connected" is used in its broadest sense in the context of the present invention and includes all variants between, directly or indirectly, "releasably connected", "permanently connected" and "forming part of".
Short description of the images
The invention is explained below with reference to non-limiting exemplary embodiments.
In the pictures shows:
FIG. 1 shows a first embodiment of a conveyor driven by a chain with a spiral-shaped conveying surface according to the prior art; FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a detail of a second exemplary embodiment of a conveyor driven according to the prior art by means of a chain; FIG. 3 is a perspective view, partly in the form of a plan drawing, of a detail of a first exemplary embodiment of a conveyor according to the invention, and FIG. 4 is a perspective view, partly in the form of a plan drawing, of a detail of a second exemplary embodiment of a conveyor according to the invention.
Embodiments
The conveyor according to the state of the art shown in figure 1 has a spiral-shaped conveying surface and is driven by means of a roller chain. The forces on the chain are great in the given spiral-shaped configuration, as a result of which the chain will wear quickly and the risk of breaking the chain is high. The detail shown in Figure 2 of a chain-driven conveyor according to the prior art shows the driving roller chain built up of links, pins and rollers.
Figure 3 shows a detail of a first exemplary embodiment of a conveyor according to the invention (10). The conveyor (10) comprises a profile part (2) which is bent in its longitudinal direction in the form of a desired trajectory, for example a vertical spiral trajectory with a bend radius of 1 meter and a height of 15 meters, and a number of trolleys or trolleys (3) with wheels (4a, 4b) for guiding the trolleys (3) along the profile part (2). According to the invention, a link chain (6) is used for the drive. Coupling members (5a-c) are used for coupling the trolleys (3) to the link chain (6): first coupling members (5a) which can each be partially accommodated in a "vertical" link (7a); pairs of third coupling members (5c) each provided with a first receiving space (8a) in which a first coupling member (5a) can be partially received and thus coupled to the third coupling members (5c); and pairs of second coupling members (5b) connected to a trolley (3), each provided with a second receiving space (8b) in which a third coupling member (5c) can be partially received and thus coupled to the second coupling members (5b). The profile part (2) and the link chain (6) are made of metal, and the other parts (3-5) shown are made of a suitable plastic.
Proceed as follows for coupling the trolley (3) with the link chain (6). A first coupling member (5a) is slid into a "vertical" link (7a) in the manner indicated, see Figure 3. Two third coupling members (5c) are arranged on either side of the first coupling member (5a) and the relevant 'vertical' link (7a) in the indicated manner, see figure 3, and placed against each other so that the first coupling member (5a) is partially received in the space formed by the two involved first receiving spaces (8a) and thus being coupled to the relevant pair of third coupling members (5c). The pair of third coupling members (5c) is formed in the space formed by the second receiving spaces (8b) in a pair of second coupling members (5b) connected to a roller carriage (3). That process is repeated for coupling a subsequent roller carriage (3) and so on. A reliable coupling is thus obtained between the roller carriages (3) and the link chain (6), whereby the link chain (6) can continue to pivot in the two directions and remains well centered everywhere and at all times.
Figure 4 shows a detail of a second exemplary embodiment of a conveyor according to the invention (20). The conveyor (20) again comprises a profile part (not shown), which is bent in its longitudinal direction in the form of a desired path, and a number of trolleys or trolleys (3 ') with wheels (4a', 4b ') for guiding the profile part of the trolleys (3 '). According to the invention, a link chain (6) is again used for the drive. For coupling the trolleys (3 ') to the link chain (6), use is again made of coupling members (5a'; 5b '): first coupling members (5a'), each of which can be partially accommodated in a 'horizontal' link (7b) ) and thus can be coupled to said 'horizontal' links (7b) and second coupling members (5b ') each connected to a trolley (3') and provided with a receiving space (8b ') in which a first coupling member (5a') is partially can be included and thus be coupled to the relevant second coupling member (5b ').
The number of parts in the second exemplary embodiment (20) is lower than in the first exemplary embodiment (10). This is possible because in the second embodiment (20) the first coupling members (5a ') are slid into' horizontal 'links (7b), while in the first embodiment (10) the first coupling members (5a) into' vertical 'links (7a) be shifted. By "horizontal" and "vertical" in the context of the invention is meant "in the position of use substantially parallel to the conveying plane" or "in the position of use substantially perpendicular to the conveying plane".
Because the link chain, in contrast to a roller chain, is very flexible in two directions, relatively sharp bends in two directions are possible. Furthermore, the link chain is very strong so that long trajectories with many and / or sharp bends are possible, such as a vertical spiral trajectory with a small bend radius of, for example, 1 meter or possibly less, and a large height of, for example, 15 meters or possibly more. The link chain also remains well centered due to the coupling by means of the coupling members. Furthermore, the chain is insensitive to contamination or attack by, for example, paint, powder, acids and other chemicals, abrasives, glass grit, metal shavings and so on. Furthermore, the link chain requires no lubrication and requires little maintenance.
It will be clear that the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments shown and described, but that all kinds of variants which are obvious to a person skilled in the art are possible within the scope of the invention.
