专利说明:

The invention relates to a plastic container for packaging food products, comprising a container and a lid, to a mold for packaging foodstuffs, molds for manufacturing the same, and a method for manufacturing the same. forming the container, a mold to form the lid, and a method for forming the plastic container.
Plastic containers for packaging food products are commonly used for example in the consumer products trade for packaging food products such as mushrooms, tomatoes, etc. Plastic containers are easy to manufacture, easy to use and handle, light and recyclable.
The most complex feature of these plastic containers is the connection between the container and the lid to close the inner cavity. When the connection is a single-use connection, there are simple solutions in the prior art in which the container and the lid are, for example, welded to each other at particular locations, so that these connections can be broken relatively easily to access the contents of the container. However, when the lid and the container are to be reclosable, so that the container can also be used as a home storage container for storing remaining food products, the connection becomes more complex. A complex connection combined with various design constraints that can be generated by the manufacturing process makes the connections of the prior art unsatisfactory. It is therefore an object of the invention to improve the connection between the lid and the container of a plastic container for packaging food products.
This object is made by a plastic container for packaging food products, comprising a container having a bottom and side walls extending upwardly from the bottom to form a cavity for receiving food products, wherein sidewalls define an opening of substantially polygonal shape in a plan view for accessing the cavity. The container further comprises a lid to engage with the sidewalls to close the container cavity, wherein the lid has a polygonal shape similar to that of the opening of the container. The container is configured so that the bottom of the container can be introduced into the cavity of another container through the opening thereof for stacking purposes. Each corner of the polygonal shape of the side walls of the container is provided with a projection and a recess, in which the projection extends away from the cavity for the purpose of acting as a spacer, thereby adjusting the extent to which a container can be introduced into another container during stacking of the containers, and wherein the recess is arranged in opposition and correspondingly to the respective protrusion, i.e. say that a recess is arranged in a side wall of the container on the cavity side of a corresponding projection. The lid comprises a locking member at each corner of the polygonal shape of the lid, such that the locking elements are associated with respective recesses in the container, wherein each lid locking member and the respective recess of the container are configured to engage with each other to releasably connect the lid to the container for the purpose of closing the container cavity.
The present invention is based on the advantage that a feature that may be present for stacking purposes may also be used for connection purposes.
Containers and lids are usually manufactured in separate machines, transported to a packaging site where the containers are filled with the respective articles, for example food products, and then the lids are connected to the containers to close the containers. The filled containers are then transported to be ultimately sold to the final consumer. During transport from the manufacturing site to the packing site, it is preferable to stack the containers, and preferably also the lids, in order to keep the space occupied to a minimum, thus saving on transport costs, while also allowing the containers and lids to be handled in a batch-by-batch fashion. For this purpose, the containers are formed such that the bottom of a container can be introduced into the cavity of another container through the opening thereof, where it is preferable that during the containers are kept at a distance from each other to prevent the containers from sticking to each other, and to allow persons or machines which handle the containers to easily separate the containers from each other . The same principle can be applied to lids for similar reasons.
The side walls of the containers of a plastic container according to the invention are therefore provided with projections, said projections acting as spacers and regulating the measurement, i.e. the maximum measurement, with which a container can be introduced into another container during stacking of the containers.
By providing corresponding recesses on the cavity side of the side walls, said recesses corresponding to the projections present, these recesses can be advantageously used to connect the lid to the container. The lid according to the present invention therefore comprises locking elements which are configured to engage with corresponding recesses of the container to releasably connect the lid to the container for the purpose of closing the container cavity.
Such a detachable connection made using a locking member and a recess can be characterized in that it requires deformation of the lid and / or the container in order to connect the lid to the container and / or to disconnect the lid of the container. The recesses and the corresponding locking elements may be in frictional engagement with each other when the lid is connected to the container, for example such that the lid is clamped by the side walls of the container. Alternatively or additionally, it is possible that a deformation of the container or lid is only necessary for use during connection and disconnection, and that after the connection or disconnection, there is no deformation, or minimal deformation . The connection between the lid and the container may be based on a nesting of shapes. The recesses and the corresponding locking elements preferably have a complementary shape.
A challenge of the container according to the invention is to design the corresponding projections and recesses of the container and the corresponding locking elements of the lid so that two functions can be performed at the same time, namely to maintain the containers at a predetermined distance the each other during stacking, and allow connection of the lid to the container, where it may be important to locate the force required to connect or disconnect the lid within a specific narrow range. When .la. required force is too small, the container may open undesirably during transport or use, but when the force required to disconnect the container lid is too great, it may be difficult to open the container, especially for children, elderly people and / or people with disabilities.
Depending on the application of the container according to the invention, the force required to connect the lid and the container may be sufficient when used at home, but may be insufficient to prevent disconnection of the container lid during transport of the container. The container and the lid are therefore configured such that an alternative connection can be made between the container and the lid, so that the total force to open the plastic container can be greater during transport. The alternative connection is preferably a single-use connection, so that after opening the container for the first time, thereby breaking the alternative connection, the alternative connection can no longer be used, and additional connections between the lid and the container are made using the recesses of the container and the corresponding locking elements of the lid.
The term 'alternative' means in this context that the connections can not be made simultaneously, and that either the lid or the container is connected using the alternative connection, or that the lid and the container are connected using the locking elements. and corresponding recesses.
The alternative connection according to the invention is formed by one or more solder (s) between the container and the lid.
In order to facilitate the welding between the container and the lid, the container and the lid comprise corresponding flanges to the respective perimeters thereof to engage with each other for the purpose of allowing the lid and the container to to be connected to each other using a weld to close the container cavity.
In order to easily combine the solder connection with the connection through the recess / locking member, as described above, the cover can be used in two different orientations with respect to the container. In a first orientation of the lid with respect to the container, the flanges of the container and the lid may engage with each other for the solder connection. In a second orientation of the lid with respect to the container, in which, in the second orientation, the lid is inverted compared to the first orientation, the locking elements can engage with the corresponding recesses. Therefore, the cover can be provided with a flange on one side and locking elements on an opposite side, where the cover can be flipped depending on the connection to be used.
An advantage of the container according to the invention is that for two functions, a single component 14 is required, which makes the design constraints less severe, and therefore the design and manufacture of the less complex container.
Another advantage is that two connection configurations are possible, which makes it possible to optimize each connection configuration for a specific purpose. For example, the solder connections can be optimized for transportation, while the connection through the recess and the locking member can be optimized for home use.
In one embodiment, the container has a substantially constant wall thickness, so that the formation of the projections automatically forms the corresponding recesses.
In one embodiment, the polygonal shape is rectangular or square, where a square is considered a sort of kind of rectangle.
The polygonal shape is not limited to having straight sidewalls seen in a plan view, but may for example have concave or convex sidewalls, as long as there is a steep transition, it is ie a corner, between two side walls, thus resembling a polygonal shape.
In one embodiment, the plastic material of which the container is made makes it possible to manufacture the container by thermoforming. Preferably, the plastic material makes it possible to manufacture the container by using a deep-drawn packaging machine. Suitable plastics are, for example, thermoplastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, etc.
In one embodiment, the container is a thermoformed container, preferably a thermoformed container that has a rigid or semi-rigid plastic film structure with relatively strong walls, more preferably of a type intended for long-term consumer use. .
The container may alternatively be considered as a tray.
The container projections which act as spacers between two stacked containers are preferably provided on an upper side of the sidewalls, more preferably near the top of the sidewalls.
In one embodiment, the protrusions of the container which act as spacers between two stacked containers are provided at a level such that when the projections of a first container engage with the other container, all lateral displacement of said first container relative to said other container is prevented at the same time, so that stacked containers form a rigid or semi-rigid stack which can be easily handled.
In one embodiment, the lid is configured such that lids can be stacked easily. Preferably, it is possible to stack the covers so that the occupied space is minimized, and more preferably so that any lateral displacement of a cover relative to another cover is prevented or minimized so as to form a rigid or semi-rigid stack that can be handled easily.
In the second orientation of the lid and the container, the flanges are preferably spaced from each other when the lid and the container are connected to each other. This allows the gap between the flanges to be used to easily engage the lid flange and / or the container flange to separate the lid and container from one another. The invention also relates to a mold for forming a container, as described above, preferably thermoforming a container, as described above, by deep drawing. The mold may alternatively be used to form a container, as described above, by injection molding. The invention further relates to a mold for forming a lid, as described above, preferably thermoforming a lid, as described above, by deep drawing. The mold may alternatively be used to form a lid, as described above, by injection molding.
The molds for the container and the lid may be a negative mold or a positive mold, in which, in the case of a negative mold, a sheet of material may be drawn into a mold cavity, and in which, in the case of a mold, a positive mold, a sheet of material is stretched above the mold. The invention further relates to a method for forming a plastic container according to the invention, wherein it is preferably used a mold for thermoforming the container by deep drawing and / or a mold for thermoforming the container. lid by deep drawing. The invention also relates to a lid for a plastic container according to the invention. The invention will now be described in a non-limiting manner with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which like parts are designated by like numerals, and in which: Figure 1 is a side view of a container of a plastic container according to one embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 is a perspective view from below of the container shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a side view of a stack of two containers which are shown in Figure 1; Figure 4 is a perspective view from above of the container which is shown in Figure 1; Figure 5 is a perspective view of a lid suitable for closing the container which is shown in Figure 1; Figure 6 shows the container and lid shown in Figures 1 and 5, respectively, in a first closed configuration; Figure 7 is a perspective view of the container and lid shown in Figures 1 and 5, respectively, in a second closed configuration; Figure 8 is a top view of the second closed configuration shown in Figure 7; Fig. 9 is a cross-sectional view along the line A-A of the second closed configuration which is shown in Fig. 7; and Figure 10 shows a detail B of the second closed configuration which is shown in Figure 7.
Figure 1 is a side view of a container 1 forming part of a plastic container according to one embodiment of the invention. Figure 2 is a perspective view from below of the container 1 which is shown in Figure 1. The plastic container is suitable for packaging food products, for example mushrooms, tomatoes, etc.
The container 1 comprises a bottom 3 and side walls 5 which extend upwardly from the bottom 3 to form a cavity for receiving the food products. In this embodiment, the four side walls 5 define a rectangular shape in a plan view, as can be seen in the perspective view from above which is shown in FIG. 4, but the invention can be applied to any polygonal shape or shape resembling a polygon. Figure 4 also shows that the cavity is designated · by the numeral 7.
Figure 1 further discloses that the sidewalls 5 extend upwardly from the bottom 3 and slightly apart from each other, so that the size of the opening of the cavity at the top of the container 1 is larger than the size of the bottom, thereby allowing the bottom 3 of a container 1 to be inserted into the cavity 7 of another container via the opening for the purpose of stack.
In this embodiment, the bottom 3 is not completely flat, but has a more complex shape, thereby creating ribs 4 on the bottom 3 inside the cavity 7. These ribs 4 can be used to advantageously to strengthen the bottom 3 without having to increase the wall thickness of the bottom 3 and / or to act as spacers to keep food products away from the bottom and receive fluids, for example from the water, between the ribs that may be useful for separating fluids and / or food waste if necessary / desired.
An example of a stack of two containers 1, 1 'is shown in Figure 3. To prevent the two containers from sticking to each other and allow easy separation of the two containers, the two containers are maintained at a predetermined distance D from each other by projections 9 provided on an upper side of the side walls 5 in each corner of the rectangular shape. The projections 9 act as spacers, thereby setting the maximum extent to which a container 1 'can be introduced into another container 1 during stacking. The. the lower side of the projections 9 of the container 1 'therefore engages with an upper side of the side walls 5 of the container 1.
Although the example shown in FIG. 2 only shows a stack of two containers, the same principle applies to a stack of more than two containers when each container is preferably provided with respective projections 9.
Furthermore, it is explicitly mentioned here that this embodiment has a projection 9 in each corner of the rectangular shape, but the use of a projection 9 may already be sufficient to hold two containers in a stack at a distance adequate from each other. In the case where two projections 9 are provided, the two projections are preferably positioned on opposite sides of the polygonal shape.
If two or more projections 9 are used as spacers, these protrusions are preferably distributed, more preferably substantially evenly distributed around the perimeter of the opening of the cavity as viewed in a plan view.
In this embodiment, preferably caused by the manufacture of the container using a sheet material having a constant thickness, the formation of the projections 9 is accompanied by the formation (automatic) of the corresponding recesses 11 (see FIG. cavity side of the side walls 5.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a lid 13 suitable for closing the cavity 7 of the container 1 which is shown in Figures 1 to 4. The lid 13 has an upper surface 15 which is delimited by an edge 17 and walls side 19 extending downwardly from the edge 17 to terminate in a flange 21 extending laterally.
Preferably, the upper surface 15 has a size similar to the bottom size 3 of a container 1, so that the bottom 3 of a container 1 can be received on the upper surface 15 within the edge 17 to be surrounded by the rim 17, preferably so that any lateral displacement is prevented, thereby making it easy for containers filled and packaged in which the lid is connected to the container in a first closed configuration of the container, such as is shown in Figure 6, in which the cover 13 is in a first orientation relative to the container 1.
The lid 13, in a plan view, has a similar polygonal shape, i.e., a rectangular shape in this embodiment, as defined by the side walls 5 of the container 1. The lid comprises locking members 23 in the corners which permit coupling to respective recesses 11 of the container 1 to detachably connect the lid 13 to the container 1 for the purpose of closing the container 7 cavity 1 in a second closed configuration of the container as shown in Figure 7, in which the cover 13 is in a second orientation relative to the container 1, where the cover in the second orientation is inverted compared to the cover disposed in the first orientation.
In the first closed configuration shown in Fig. 6, the flange 21 of the lid 13 engages with a corresponding flange 25 of the container 1. The flange 25 of the container is shown more clearly in Fig. 4. In Fig. 6, the two flanges 21, 25 are connected to each other using four welds at locations indicated by the numeral 27 in Figures 4 and 5. These four welds provide sufficient strength to keep the container closed during transport but also to allow a user to remove the lid of the container. After this removal, the seals can no longer be used, and it is therefore not possible to connect the lid and the container to each other in the first orientation of the lid relative to the container in a practical manner. The advantage of the container according to this embodiment of the invention is that the lid can be turned over and detachably connected to the container by using the locking elements 23 of the lid in combination with the recesses 11 in the container. The connection between the lid and the container in the second closed configuration can for example be made by frictional contact or interlocking connection.
Figure 8 is a top view of the second closed configuration of the container which is shown in Figure 7. Figure 8 clearly shows a line AA which indicates the orientation of the cross-sectional view shown in Figure 9, in which one can see the manner in which the locking elements 23 of the lid engage with the recess 11 of the container.
Figure 10 shows in more detail the part B which is shown in Figure 9. From this drawing, it is clear that the locking member 23 of the lid 13 engages with the recess 11 of the container 1 in the side wall 5, wherein the angle of the side wall portion of the recess 11 with respect to the vertical designated by the reference symbol a is such that the locking member 23 clings behind said side wall portion of the recess, so that a deformation of the cover and / or the locking member 23 and / or the side wall 5 is required to remove the cover 13 1Q14 container 1.
In this embodiment, the edge 17 of the lid is sized so that it engages with the side wall 15 when the lid is positioned in the second orientation relative to the container and closes the cavity, thereby helping to make an appropriate connection between the lid and the container.
The plastic container according to the invention can be manufactured using a thermoforming process. The method for making the container may include a deep drawing step using a positive mold or a negative mold.
Preferably, the container and / or the lid are made of a sheet material.
Although the invention is described with reference to a specific embodiment which is shown in the drawings, the invention is not limited to this specific embodiment, and features described in combination here can also be applied separately. unless specifically stated otherwise. The invention may alternatively be described by the following clauses: 1.
