专利说明:
"Washer / Wringer with Plastic Pipe Connector" FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention generally relates to washer-extractors and more particularly to an improved hose connection system for connecting water supply pipes and other liquid to the washing tubs of the washer-extractors. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION In commercial clothes washers and clothes dryers used in commercial and public establishments, water supply pipes are commonly connected to a welded tubular metal connector at the back of the washer / wringer wash tub. The pipe is positioned on the fitting and fixed thereto for the purpose of supplying the tank with washing water. Such tubular connectors are commonly made of stainless steel to resist corrosion due to exposure to laundry chemicals. Because of the positioning and angle of these tubular connectors, it can be difficult to obtain a reliable and waterproof seal to the wall of the metal wash tub. The metal fitting is also a relatively expensive piece because of the stainless steel material and processes required to fabricate the workpiece and securely attach it to the wash tub. Although plastic pipe connection fittings were used to connect water supply pipes to the wash tub, these fittings were previously to be installed from the inside of the tank and then a lock nut was screwed onto a connecting portion of the pipe side of the fitting from outside the tank to hold the fitting in place and create a water seal with a compression seal interposed between the fitting and the wall of the wash tub. Such hose connection fittings did not allow replacement of the fitting without access to the interior of the wash tub, which is a significant disadvantage for field service if a damaged connector needs to be replaced. . With such plastic fittings, a protruding pipe connection tube must be externally threaded to receive the fixing nut. This further requires that the tube be oriented perpendicular to the wall of the wash tub in which the fitting is attached, which may not be an optimum angle to direct the water as efficiently as possible into the wash tub without leakage at the connection. OBJECTS AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to provide a washer / wringer with an improved connector for connecting water supply pipes and other liquid to the wash tub. Another object is to provide a hose connection connection to the wash tub which can be installed and removed from the outside of the wash tub without welding. An additional object is to provide a relatively low cost plastic molded pipe connection fitting as characterized above, which can be installed more easily and facilitates field replacement. Yet another object is to provide a plastic pipe connection fitting of the aforementioned type which has a projecting pipe connection tube oriented at an acute angle to the wash tub on which the fitting is mounted to direct the tubing. water optimally in the wash tub. Yet another object is to provide a plastic connector of the aforementioned type which can be mounted in a washer / wringer in the above manner for use with other accessories. Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent on reading the detailed description which follows and with reference to the drawings in which: BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of an illustrative washer / extractor having water pipe connection fittings according to the invention; Fig. 2 is an enlarged side elevational view of one of the pipe connection fittings of the illustrated washer / wringer; Fig. 3 is a rear view of the pipe connection fitting shown in FIG. 2; Figs. 4-6 are sequential perspective views illustrating the mounting of the pipe connection fitting in a wall of the wash tub of the illustrated washer / wringer; and FIG. 7 is a perspective view from the rear showing a pair of the connectors in the mounted position. Although the invention is susceptible to various modifications and constructional variations, some illustrative embodiment thereof has been shown in the drawings and will be described in detail below. It must be understood, however, that there is no intention to limit the invention to the specific form disclosed, on the contrary, the intention is to cover all modifications, variants of construction and equivalents entering the mind and the scope of the invention. DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now more particularly to the drawings, they show an illustrative washer / extractor 10 having a plurality of water supply hose connection connectors 11 according to the invention. The washer / wringer illustrated 10 is a washing machine of a type commonly referred to as a fixed built-in washing machine, comprising a body 12 supporting a washing tub 14, a drum rotated in the washing tub 14 to receive clothes or other articles to be washed, and an access door 16 to the washing tub 14 and to the drum 15 which opens at the front. To supply water to the wash tank 14 during the selected wash and rinse cycles, one or more water supply pipes 18 are provided, each of which is controlled by a control valve in a conventional manner. Since the pipe connection fittings 11, in this case, are of identical construction, only one of them needs to be described in detail. In addition, as one skilled in the art will appreciate, for the sake of clarity of the description with respect to hose connection fittings, the components and accessories of the illustrated washer / wringer have been omitted from FIG. 1. In accordance with the present invention, each pipe connection fitting has a molded plastic construction adapted for easy mounting and replacement from the outside of the wash tub. For this purpose, in the illustrated embodiment, each connector 11 has a base plate 20 mountable to an outer surface of a rear wall 21 of the wash tub and a tubular connecting portion 22 extending from outwardly around which a water supply pipe 18 can be clamped or otherwise otherwise fixed. The tubular connection portion 22, in this case, has an annular lip 24 extending radially at its end end to facilitate a tight connection. The tubular pipe connection portion 22 defines a water flow passage 25 communicating at the outlet of the pipe 18 passing through the base plate 20 and the wall 21 of the wash tub with the interior of the tub of the tub. washing 14. The base plate 20 of the connection fitting, in this case, has a generally rectangular configuration and is provided with a pair of clamp members or lugs 30 adjacent to diametrically opposite corners of the base plate 20. The Each of the illustrated clamps 30 comprises a clamping arm 31 and a connecting portion 32 which supports the clamping arm 31 in parallel and spaced rearwardly with respect to the base plate 20. The clamping arms 31, in this case , extend parallel to each other and in opposite directions, each having an end end 34 disposed at a short distance "d" from a respective opposite corner of the base mounting plate 20. According to the invention, the pipe connection connector 11 can be mounted in a keyed opening 40 of the wall 21 of the washing tub. The keyed opening 40, in this case, has a generally rectangular configuration, with dimensions slightly smaller than the base plate 20 of the connector with a pair of mounting flanges 41 extended at diametrically opposite corners of the opening 40. The keyed opening 40, although smaller than the base plate 20, is large enough to receive the clamping members 30 when positioned in the corners 40a of the opening 40 facing the mounting flanges 41, as illustrated. on fig. 4 and 5. With the clamping members 30 positioned in the keyed opening 40 in this manner, the connector 11 can then be rotated to position the clamping arms 31 adjacent to the rear sides of the mounting flanges 41 on the wall of the washing tub aligned with them. To facilitate this rotation of the connection fitting 11, the clamping arms 31 are spaced at a distance slightly greater than the thickness of the wall 21 of the wash tub. Therefore, in the rotated position, as illustrated in FIG. 6, the perimeter of the base plate 20 is disposed adjacent to an outer surface of the wall 21 of the wash tub by surrounding the keyed opening 40 and the clamping members 30 are disposed adjacent to a rear side mounting flanges 41 on the diametrically opposite wall. To facilitate the safe fitting of the connector on the wall 21 of the wash tub, the mounting flanges 41 on the wall are each formed with a mounting opening 44 receiving a fastener, and the base plate of the connector 11 is formed with a pair of mounting apertures 45 at diametrically opposite corners coinciding with the mounting flange openings 44. Each clamping member 31 is furthermore formed with a rearwardly extending cylindrical locking pin 46 receiving the fastener. In the rotated position as illustrated in FIG. 6, the connector 11 can therefore be easily attached to the wall 21 of the wash tub by a pair of self-tapping screws 48 which extend through the aligned base plate and the mounting flange openings 44, 46 and in the immobilizing lugs 46, they engage by tightening means to attract the clamping members 31 and the base plate 20 in close engagement with the wall of the washing tub. To provide a seal between the pipe connection connector 11 and the wall 21 of the wash tub, a rectangular seal 50 is interposed between the rear side of the base plate 20 of the connector and the wall 21 of the tub washing. Preferably, the base plate 20 of the connector is formed with a recess 51 receiving the rectangular seal, sized to support the seal 50 during mounting and rotational positioning of the connector 11, while projecting towards the outside of the base plate sufficiently to seal the front surface of the wall 21 of the wash tub during attachment. The mounting apertures 46 of the base plate are preferably smaller in size than the self-tapping screws 48 so that when mounting the connector 11, the screws 48 also engage sealingly in the base plate 20. Since the pipe connection connector 11 can be mounted in the wall 21 of the wash tub without the need to screw a retaining nut on the tubular portion 22 receiving the pipe, one skilled in the art will appreciate that the tubular portion 22 receiving the pipe may be formed at an angle to the base plate 20 to optimally direct the water into the wash tub. In this case, the tubular pipe-fitting portion 22 is disposed at an angle of about 45 ° with respect to the base plate, and therefore the wall 21 of the wash tub, to direct the water from the water supply pipe 18 in a downward and inward direction. From the foregoing, one skilled in the art will appreciate that the pipe connection fitting can be produced economically by injection molding and effectively mounted on the wall of the wash tub and removed for maintenance or replacement. if necessary, completely from the outside of the wash tub. Although in the illustrated embodiment, each water supply pipe is connected to a fitting of its own, it will be understood that alternatively, the base plate of the connector may be integrally formed with a plurality of tubular portions. pipe connection each for connection to a water supply pipe of its own. In addition, although the invention has been described in connection with liquid pipe connection fittings, the invention can also be applied to other types of fittings such as drain chute connections, trap fittings of liquid and ports for mounting temperature sensors and other accessories.
