Improved design container
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is in the field of disposable packaging for pressurized products, preferably for applying polyurethane foam. The invention is more particularly directed to an improved disposable container containing a composition for polyurethane foam (PU foam), which contains polymethylene polyphenyl isocyanate and in which free methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) monomer can still exist, or to an improved protective cap for a container with such a container. content. The invention can also be important in the field of technical sprays or paints, or sprays with insecticides and / or herbicides.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Polyurethane foam has many applications, especially in the construction industry. It is widely used as an insulating material, and often also to fill and / or close holes and cracks. It is easy to apply from a spray can under pressure, sticks easily to most surfaces, and in many cases can also be painted over. A cuttable solid foam is formed shortly after application, so that excess volume can be easily removed.
For intensive applications, mainly aimed at professionals, people like to use a spray gun or other device that fits comfortably in the hand and usually also allows precise dosing and application, so that even narrow joints can be filled easily and without much waste. Buses for such use are therefore offered with a specially adapted head or ring, which is arranged around the valve of the pressure container, and which must serve to be able to couple with the spray gun or other device, which is then usually intended to to bring where needed. The head or ring usually also includes a protective cap that, as a seal over the valve of the container, protects this valve, and what needs to be removed to release the valve. The spray gun can then be rotated on the ring on the bushing with screw thread or with a snap-in system, whereby the valve is simultaneously pressed into the open position and the spray gun is therefore immediately ready for use. An appropriate and very easy "Click & Fix" system of ring and matching spray gun is described in WO 98/43894. An improved version of the "Click & Fix" system is described in our unpublished patent application EP-A-10164927.5, filed June 4, 2010. A threaded system is described in US patent 5,271,537. An improved version of a double-function threaded connector is described in our unpublished patent application EP-A-10164924.2, also filed on June 4, 2010.
The containers with polyurethane foam intended for the do-it-yourselfer usually do not have a ring to screw or snap onto a spray gun. The valve is usually free, and its stem can itself be provided with an external thread, on which an applicator tube sold or supplied separately can then be turned or screwed, with a lever attached to it that causes the valve stem to tilt when pressed in and thus permits up that way to manually open the valve, and let it close again when released. For this application, the valve must therefore be free, and it is customary for the do-it-yourselfer container to be provided with a protective cap which is removably attached to the container, and which thus protects the valve until the moment of use.
A major component of all polyurethane foams offered in such disposable cans is methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI). Typically, such a formula contains more than 10% monomeric MDI.
The monomer MDI is a very reactive molecule. This monomer is also considered as potentially harmful to health and can cause irritation, such as in contact with skin. Since when the PU foam is sprayed, all the monomer has not completely reacted away, there is a risk that the user will be exposed to the foam, and therefore also to the monomer, through the skin, and especially the hands.
Although MDI is still relatively one of the most "safe" isocyanates, recent studies have also led to legislative measures being taken to protect consumers, and intended for implementation in the near future.
In certain legal systems, for example, MDI will be classified in the foreseeable future as a carcinogenic Category 3 product according to the DPD or DSD legislation (in full Dangerous Product Directive or also called Dangerous Substances Directive) and as a Carcinogenic Cat. 2 product according to the CLP Directive (Classification, Labeling & Packaging or Substances and Mixtures). This means that under that legislation all mixtures containing more than 1% monomeric MDI will have to be accompanied by an indication of, or a label referring to, the R40 sentence according to the DSD ("Carcinogenic effects are not excluded") or the H351 sentence according to CLP ("Suspected of causing cancer - by inhalation").
Other regulations related to Marketing & Use restrictions will, for example, enter into force in the European Union, which stipulates that all products that contain more than 0.1% free monomeric MDI are no longer on the consumer market, in other words do-it-yourself may be offered on the market, without adding protective gloves per unit and without providing the packaging with the necessary risk phrases. These regulations will, among other things, apply to all PU foams in disposable cans intended for the consumer market.
For the convenience of the user of the PU foam container, it is therefore desirable to supply at least one, but more preferably a pair of suitable protective gloves with the container. This is particularly desirable for the protection of the do-it-yourself user, as he is generally less trained in the dangers with the products he uses than the professional user, and will therefore often not use personal protective equipment when handling substances that may present a potential hazard. contain. In addition, it is desirable to integrate the gloves with the container, and preferably in such a way that the presence or absence of the glove is easily noticeable to the user when purchasing the container, as well as to the retailer at the sale. For the container intended for use with a spray gun, the supplied gloves are preferably integrated with the container itself. For the container intended for use with the applicator tube, the gloves supplied may also be integrated with the protective cap.
There is therefore an attempt to be able to conveniently supply an accessory object, which may be of interest to the user, for example of the PU foam container, and this integrated with the container or with its protective cap. This practice relates in the first place to at least one, but more preferably a pair of protective gloves adapted to the contents of the container, but may also concern another accessory object of potential interest to the user of the container.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The invention provides an improved container whose contents include a composition for polyurethane foam which still contains free methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), as described in one of the relevant claims, or an improved protective cap for a container with that content as described in one of the relevant conclusions.
The invention thus provides a container intended for single use, the contents of which include a composition for polyurethane foam containing free methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), the valve of which is optionally protected with a protective cap which is removably attached to the container characterized in that at least one accessory item, which may be of interest to the user of the container and which may or may not be packaged, is removably attached to the container or to its protective cap itself or by means of its packaging.
The container according to the present invention offers the advantage that, in one offer together with the container, an accessory item is supplied that is of possible interest to the user. This object can, for example, be an information carrier with more information thereon than for which there is place on the outer walls of the container or that of its possible associated protective cap. This information is, for example, information that may be useful to the user, such as safety information related to proper use of the container or its contents, and then possibly in one or more languages different from the language or languages on which that same information may already be on the outer wall of container or protective cover. The article may be, for example, one or more preferably a pair of gloves, suitable to protect one or, if appropriate, both hands of the user against harmful influence of the contents of the container upon contact with his hands, if necessary against the influence of MDI monomer.
The invention further provides a shielding cap suitable for shielding the valve of a container whose contents include a composition for polyurethane foam containing free methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), in which an at least partially enclosed space is provided for at least one accessory object what may be of interest to the user of the container and what may or may not be packaged.
The protective cap according to the present invention offers the same advantages mentioned for the container according to the present invention, and said protective cap can be offered in one set together with a container with a content identical to the container according to the present invention.

Figure 10 shows the plan view. Figure 11 shows a section through the central axis of symmetry along section sn-ΧΓ in Figure 10. Figure 12 shows a bottom view, and Figure 13 shows a perspective view of the same cover plate.
DETAIL PRESENTATION OF THE INVENTION
In this context, a removable attachment means that the accessory item, or its packaging, is attached in a reasonably durable manner so that it cannot easily be inadvertently separated from the item during storage, handling throughout the supply chain, and on sale. on which the accessory item is attached.
It also means that the accessory item itself can be recovered separately and in full integrity after it has been removed from the item to which the accessory item was attached.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the attachment is made such that the user can sense, and preferably also recognize, whether or not the at least one accessory object is still present at its intended location, preferably visible to the eye or tangible with the fingers.
This offers the advantage that both the buyer and the seller can easily determine at the time of purchase whether the container is still complete and / or whether it still complies with any legal requirements.
In a preferred embodiment the attachment is such that sensory perception can also be observed, and preferably also recognized, for which purpose the accessory object is to serve. For this, preferably use is made of letters or logos that are of themselves sufficient information or clear to evoke the right association with the majority of the target group of users. For example, when attaching gloves, it is advisable to incorporate a hand logo or glove logo into the method of attachment, so that everyone immediately understands that there is something accessory related to hands or hand protection near the logo.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the at least one accessory item is selected from the list consisting of a toy, an information carrier, and one or more gloves. The article preferably consists of one or more preferably a pair of gloves suitable for protecting one or, if appropriate, both hands of the user of the container against contact with the MDI-containing contents of the container, and which is optionally or have been folded and / or or packed alone or together.
The accessory object can aim for a multitude of objectives. A major objective may be to alert the user of the PU foam to the dangers of contact of the still-reacting foam with the skin.
Another objective may be to offer the user a protective means to protect at least one of his hands, preferably both hands, from any contact with the PU foam, especially when it has not yet been fully reacted.
In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the at least one accessory object is either glued to the container or its protective cap by means of its packaging, preferably at the base of the container, more preferably in a cavity present in that base or it is enclosed in a space formed partly by a wall of the container or of its protective cap, preferably the base of the container or the upper surface of the protective cap, in cooperation with a sealing element.
The glued embodiment is very suitable for attaching an object that is packed in a disposable package to the container or to its protective cap. Upon removal, the disposable package may then be torn, but the article remains intact available to the user. This embodiment is therefore extremely suitable for attaching one or more MDI-resistant protective gloves, packed in a plastic or other suitable material foil, to a single-use container containing a composition for PU foam, or to the protective cap of it.
This embodiment ensures that the accessory item remains with the container during the treatments that the container normally undergoes until the moment of sale to the user. It increases the likelihood that the container will still be intact at the time of sale, so that any legal provisions are still met and the user can enjoy the full utility of the container including the accessory item.
This glued embodiment also offers the advantage that it can be carried out without any modification to the entire process from the filling of the container up to and including the marketing of the final product to the consumer. That entire process can be preserved, no additional steps are required when filling the container, the conventional components for assembling the consumer product remain unchanged, and the existing packaging can also be retained. This embodiment offers the possibility of gluing the accessory object even before filling, if desired to the container or preferably to the protective cap, even more preferably in such a place that the presence of the accessory object also does not interfere with the filling. The inventors prefer to glue the accessory object to the inside of the shield. Most preferably, the accessory article is a pair of plastic gloves that are small when folded and packaged in a small and tearable plastic package, so small and light that they do not affect the existing treatments during filling and further processing and handling until at the consumer.
In one variation on this embodiment with a sealed space, the sealing element of the space in which the accessory object is enclosed is glued to the wall of the container or to its protective cap. This offers the advantage that if the sealing element has been removed, it cannot be applied back to its former location without gluing. In a special embodiment, the closing element is embodied such that it loses its integrity during removal. A suitable example would be to close the space with an easily tearable film, for example aluminum foil or paper, which must be broken as a seal to remove the accessory object from the space. The absence or presence of the closing element therefore becomes an easily recognizable sign of whether the accessory object is still in place, or possibly has already been removed. This may be important when purchasing for the user, but also during the trade through the distribution chain to the user for the intermediaries, in particular if there is a legal provision that would impose, for example, an obligation to carry a certain accessory item. deliver with the container.
In another variation of this embodiment with a closed space, the closing element of the space in which the accessory object is enclosed forms a moving part of the shielding cap and by its movement it can open the space intended for the at least one accessory object and Close. This, in turn, offers the advantage that the object can be replaced by the user, for example if the container is not yet completely emptied, so that the accessory object can be easily found and remains available for a subsequent use of the container.
In a variation of this embodiment with a closed space, the space is intended for the at least one accessory object provided in the shielding cap, and the shielding cap is thereby formed such that several identical copies of the shielding cap can fit together space-saving. This offers the advantage that the screening caps including the accessory object can be manufactured separately and can be transported space-saving to the place where the containers are provided with their screening caps.
In one embodiment, the present invention relates to a shielding cap that is shaped such that a plurality of identical shielding caps fit together in a space-saving manner. This offers the advantage that space-saving transport is possible from the cover caps to the place of assembly with the container.
In one embodiment thereof, the protective cap has a conical shape, preferably it is then formed as a truncated cone or pyramid, more preferably as a truncated cone or pyramid, and wherein the base of the cone or pyramid can be removably attached on the container. The ways in which a protective cap or removable manner can be attached to a container are well known to those skilled in the art.
In one of these embodiments of the present invention, the protective cap is in the form of a truncated cone or pyramid, and the space for the at least one accessory object is provided in the top surface of the truncated cone or pyramid. This makes the space easily accessible if the space can be opened and closed again, or makes it easy to recognize whether the possible seal is still intact or the accessory object is still present.
In a special embodiment, the space for the at least one accessory object is closed with a seal whose integrity or breaking is recognizable by the user of the container, preferably visible with the eye or tangible with the fingers. This offers the advantage that it can quickly be seen whether the whole of container, any protective cap, and accessory object, is still intact and, if this is the case, still complies with the possible legal provision.
The present invention is now further illustrated in detail with the following examples and special embodiments, in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, without thereby wishing to mean that the invention is limited to these detailed descriptions.
Figure 1 shows a top view of a preferred form of a round protective cap 1 according to the present invention, suitable for the bus intended for the do-it-yourself market. Centrally located is an approximately circular lid 2 which is movably integrated with the protective cap 1 with a film hinge 3.
Figure 2 shows a cross-section of the round protective cap 1 along the line A-A "in Figure 1, through the axis of symmetry of the protective cap. In Figure 2, the lid 2 is flipped open around the film hinge 3, and a cavity 4 is made accessible for storing or taking out an accessory object. Lid 2 is provided with a closure 7 to hold the lid in place when closed, and with a lip 8 that should make it easy to fold open the lid with a sharp point such as a fingernail. The protective cap 1 is provided with a lower edge 5 which fits on an upper flange (not shown) of a disposable spray can to protect the head thereof and the valve against undesired contact. The body of the protective cap is for the most part 6 conical, which allows the protective caps to be stacked to save space, as shown on
Figure 3.
Figure 4 and Figure 5 show an alternative embodiment of a cover plate 10, which fits as a closing element according to the present invention thanks to its appropriate top edge 11 on the (not shown) bottom flange of a disposable spray can, and with the typical but not necessarily hollow bottom of the spray can closes off a small space in which an accessory object can be stored.
Figures 6, 7, 8 and 9 together describe another specific and preferred embodiment of a shielding cap 20 according to the present invention, with a clamp 21 for visibly storing a pair of protective gloves. Figure 6 shows a top view of the protective cap. Figure 7 shows a cross-section through the central axis of symmetry along the line VII-VII "shown in Figure 6. Here it can also be seen how the lower edge is provided with a provision 22 which is adapted to snap onto the upper flange of the container. Figure 8 shows the bottom view and Figure 9 shows a perspective view of the same protective cover. Also shown in these figures is the lip 23 with a hole 24. The lip can make it easier to separate the protective cap from the container, but at the same time, through hole 24, also serves as an option for the applicator tube, which is indicated. can be supplied for the somewhat targeted application of the container contents, for example by hanging it in hole 24 of lip 23.
Figures 10, 11, 12 and 13 show an alternative and also chosen embodiment of a cover plate 30 that can be clicked at the bottom on the bottom flange of a PU foam container and in which, thanks to an integrated clips 31, a package containing a package is visible pairs of protective gloves can be stored. Figure 10 shows the plan view. Figure 11 shows a cross-section through the central axis of symmetry along section ΧΙ-figuur in figure 10. Here it can also be seen how the lower edge is provided with a provision 32 which is adapted to snap onto the lower flange of the container. Figure 12 shows a bottom view and Figure 13 shows a perspective view of the same cover plate.
These embodiments are intended for supplying a pair of protective gloves, and the visible outsides are therefore provided with a logo that indicates this in an appropriate manner, as seen in Figures 1,4, 6 and 10 respectively.
Now that the invention has been fully described above, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that the invention can be implemented within a wide range of parameters within what is described in the following claims, without therefore departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. . It will be understood by those skilled in the art that the invention in general, as defined in the claims, also encompasses other embodiments which are not specifically shown in this document.
