Connection element.
The present invention relates to a connecting element.
More specifically, the invention relates to a connecting element for connecting a bicycle and a cart together.
From the U.S. U.S. Patent No. 7,131,657 discloses a connecting element for connecting a bicycle to a bicycle trailer, wherein said connecting element is attached to the rear wheel axle of the bicycle and wherein this connecting element is constructed in such a way that mutual movement is made possible between the bicycle and the bicycle trailer according to three degrees of freedom.
A drawback of such a construction is that it is relatively difficult to use due to the complex construction and that the assembly and maintenance of such a connecting element is also relatively time-consuming and expensive.
A further disadvantage of a connecting element according to US 7,131,657 is that such a connecting element, due to the large distance between the axle of the rear wheel and the actual bicycle trailer, must be provided with an elongated component such as a long pleated tube, which is a disadvantageous has an impact on the cost price, as well as on the required storage location for storing the connecting element.
Another drawback of a connecting element according to US 7,131,657 is that it allows use only in combination with a bicycle trailer with a low center of gravity, or in other words a fairly stable bicycle trailer that is low to the ground, so that such bicycle trailer does not lend itself to applications where a simple manual movement of the bicycle trailer is required.
When shopping, use is generally made either of a well-known shopping cart provided for this purpose, or of a so-called caddy or trolley, consisting of a two-wheeled mobile chassis which is provided with a handle located at such a vertical distance from the wheels that a the user can move this trolley manually without having to bend the back and wherein a vertically erected shopping basket is arranged on the aforementioned undercarriage in which groceries or the like can be stored for transport purposes. As is known, such trolleys are also provided with a support foot which serves as a third support point when the trolley stands upright.
Depending on whether someone wants to go shopping on foot or by bike, this person can use a trolley or a bicycle trailer, so that the person in question must purchase both carts and provide storage space for this, which is expensive and is impractical.
In addition, it is often not permitted or very impractical to go through a shop or marketplace with a bicycle and a bicycle trailer attached to it. When goods have to be placed in the bicycle trailer, a user must first place his bicycle down with a foot or so-called spot, which leads to an unstable situation where the bicycle can fall over.
The present invention has for its object to provide a solution to one or more of the aforementioned and / or other disadvantages. According to a special aspect the object of the invention is to provide a connecting element that allows to combine the advantages of a bicycle trailer with those of a traditional shopping trolley.
To this end the invention relates to a connecting element for connecting a bicycle and a cart to each other, wherein this connecting element, according to the characteristic aspect of the invention, comprises on the one hand anchoring means which can be attached to a luggage holder or a seat post of the bicycle, and on the other hand traction means that can be attached to a handle of a cart in the form of a trolley for pulling this trolley when the bicycle is being moved.
An advantage of a connecting element according to the invention is that it allows to pull a classic trolley with a bicycle, so that a user can easily move the trolley with the bicycle and thus does not need a separate bicycle trailer, which can save costs and storage space .
Another advantage of a connecting element according to the invention is that, because the connecting element is fastened to the luggage holder or seat post of the bicycle, it is permitted to move a cart whose center of gravity is relatively high, which also allows an easier manual movement of the cart then with traditional bicycle trailers that are attached to the axle of the rear wheel of a bicycle; and that no elongated tubular structures must be provided to bridge the distance between the anchoring on the bicycle, on the one hand, and the actual bicycle trailer, on the other.
According to a preferred feature of the invention, the aforementioned pulling means comprise a clamp which can be releasably secured around the aforementioned handle of the trolley.
This has the advantage that the trolley can be disconnected from the bicycle in a very simple and rapid manner for use, for example during shopping. When the groceries are arranged in the trolley, the trolley can conversely be fastened back to the bicycle very quickly and easily by means of the aforementioned clamp.
With the insight to better demonstrate the features of the invention, a preferred embodiment of a connecting element according to the invention is described below as an example without any limiting character, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: figure 1 shows a top view of a connecting element according to the invention; figure 2 represents a view according to arrow F2 in figure 1; figure 3 schematically and in perspective shows the use of a connecting element according to the invention.
Figures 1 to 3 show a connecting element 1 according to the invention for connecting a bicycle 2 and a cart in the form of a trolley 3.
According to the invention, the aforementioned connecting element 1 is provided with anchoring means 4 which in this case comprise a plate 5 which can be mounted on the luggage holder of the bicycle 2, in this case by means of a releasable fastening element in the form of a bolt-nut connection 6 which presses a tensioning element 7 against the underside of the luggage holder, while the plate 5 is tensioned against the upper side of the luggage holder.
All kinds of, preferably releasable and reclosable fastening elements can of course be used for fastening the connecting element 1 to the luggage holder, such as clamps, locking pins, snap connections or the like.
Furthermore, the aforementioned connecting element 1 according to the invention comprises pulling means 8 which can be attached to a handle 9 of the trolley 3 for pulling this trolley 3 when the bicycle 2 is being moved.
The connecting element 1 in this case also comprises a shaft 10 which, in this case, but not necessarily, extends perpendicularly through the aforementioned plate 5 and around which a part of the aforementioned pulling means 8 are rotatably arranged, such that the pulling means 8 be rotatable about this axis of rotation, with respect to the aforementioned anchoring means 4.
According to a preferred feature of the invention, the above-mentioned rotation axis, in the position of use of the connecting element 1, extends vertically or substantially vertically.
The mounting of the pulling means 8 around the aforementioned shaft 10 can be done by means of a slide bearing, but can also be realized using a different type of bearing such as a roller bearing. Naturally, an axial locking of the shaft 10 with respect to the anchoring means 4 and the pulling means 8 is preferably provided, for example by means of locking rings or the like.
According to a preferred embodiment of a connecting element 1 according to the invention, this rotation is the only possibility of movement between the two parts 4 and 8 and no other directions of movement are possible.
The pulling means 8 in this case consist of two plates, a lower plate 11 and an upper plate 12 respectively, with a clamping part 13 and 14 attached to each of these plates 11 and 12, respectively.
The clamping parts 13 and 14 together form a clamp which can be releasably secured around the handle 9 of the trolley 3. The aforementioned two clamping parts 13 and 14 are thus movable relative to each other between an open and a closed position.
To this end, in this case, the clamping part 14 is hingedly connected to the above-mentioned plate 12 such that the pivot axis extends transversely or substantially transversely with respect to the aforesaid axis of rotation, and this pivot axis extends substantially horizontally while the connecting element 1 is in use extends, either parallel or substantially parallel to the surface on which the bicycle 2 and the trolley 3 are placed.
It is of course also possible according to the invention for the two clamping parts 13 and 14 to be hingedly connected to a respective plate 11 or 12.
According to a special embodiment of a connecting element 1 according to the invention, not shown in the figures, it is possible for the clamp to comprise at least one spring which keeps the clamp closed when in rest, or in other words the clamping parts 13 and 14 towards each other press.
Preferably, the above-mentioned pulling means 8 also comprise locking means 15 for mutually locking the above-mentioned clamping parts 13 and 14 in the closed position of the clamp, which locking means 15 in this case are designed in the form of a bolt-nut connection which extends through a portion of both clamping members 13 and 14.
The use of a connecting element according to the invention is very simple and as follows.
In order to attach the connecting element 1 to a luggage holder of a bicycle 2, the aforementioned plate 5 is tensioned against this luggage holder by means of the aforementioned bolt-nut connection 6 and the tensioning element 7
The clamping parts 13 and 14 are then opened relative to each other, in this case of the opening of the upper clamping part 14, whereafter the handle 9 of a trolley 3 can be arranged between these clamping parts 13 and 14.
The clamp is then closed and the preferred locking means 15 are also closed in order to prevent the clamp from re-opening automatically.
Despite the fact that the aforementioned locking means in this example are designed in the form of a bolt-nut connection, it is of course not excluded that other locking means can be used such as a locking pin, a snap connection, a clamping clamp or the like.
During driving, the trolley 3 will simply follow the direction of travel of the bicycle 2, since a rotation of the pulling means 8 relative to the anchoring means 4 is possible.
Also, by limiting the number of degrees of freedom in the mutual movement between the pulling means 8 and the anchoring means 4, it is prevented that the trolley 3 and the bicycle 2 would fall over when parking the bicycle by means of a foot, wherein the bicycle 2 would be tilted.
On the other hand, it is possible to provide the shaft 10 as a spherical joint which realizes a rotatable connection with several degrees of freedom.
This offers a more flexible behavior of the trolley 3 and promotes driving comfort.
Alternatively, optionally in combination with the above-mentioned ball joint, the pulling means 8 can be designed differently, for instance by designing the lower plate 11 and the upper plate 12 and the clamping part 13 as one integrated part, and by the clamping part 13, albeit with buckled design, can only be connected to the aforementioned integrated component with the help of a tightening bolt.
Unscrewing the bolt, preferably provided with a large manageable grip, makes it possible to insert the handle 9 of the trolley 3 and then clamp it in by screwing the bolt in again.
Although in the embodiment shown in the figures and in the above-described embodiment the anchoring means 4 are attached to a luggage holder, it is not excluded according to the invention to connect these anchoring means 4, for example in the case of absence of a luggage holder, to a seat post or the like .
The plate 5 can also be replaced by a framework or the like.
According to the spirit of the invention, the term "luggage holder" is to be understood in a very broad sense and may relate to a supporting surface or frame on which luggage can be loaded, as well as to the nearby bicycle frame on which such supporting surface is provided or not, or with other words the part of the frame that is preferably located behind or below and near the saddle and / or above the rear wheel, whereby the specific advantage of a stable arrangement is retained.
The present invention is by no means limited to the exemplary embodiment described and shown in the figures, but a connecting element according to the invention can be designed in many shapes and dimensions without departing from the scope of the invention.
