The brush element comprises a piece of wire cable (1), one end of which is received in a clamping bush (3), which can be fixed to a brush disc. The piece of wire cable (1) is free of plastic coating (2) along the length (B) of the clamping bush (3) and possibly over an additional length (x). In one method, the pieces of wire cable (1) can be obtained by dipping the pieces (11) having the desired total length ((L + X) + B) over the desired length (L) in a liquid plastic bath. Before a piece of wire cable is immersed in the liquid plastic, the wire cable can be immersed in a bath adhesive. A good adhesion of the plastic to the wire cable is hereby obtained. A biodegradable material can be used as plastic.

专利说明:

Brush element for use with a rotating brush.
The invention relates to a brush element for use with a rotating brush as it is used for cleaning a street surface and the like, which brush element comprises a piece of wire cable, one end of which is received in a clamping bush, which can be fixed to a brush disc, and which piece of wire cable is provided with a layer of plastic.
Such a brush element is known from EP 1356750-B.
This brush element uses a piece of wire cable, in particular steel wire cable, which is provided with a layer of plastic over its entire length. The pieces can thus be cut off with a wire cable which is provided with a layer of plastic over its entire length.
The layer of plastic can be applied by extruding plastic over the wire cable or by winding a strip of plastic over the wire cable and then heating it.
The clamping bush is thereby slid over a part of the length of the piece of wire cable such that the clamping bush projects beyond the wire cable over a part of its length. The latter must prevent that, when fixing, such as in that case the welding, from the clamping bush to the brush disk, the plastic layer starts to melt or burn.
Nevertheless, there is a direct contact between the clamping bush and the layer of plastic, which will be strongly heated during welding. As a result, there is a risk that the layer of plastic will melt or burn if the part of the clamping sleeve protruding outside the wire cable is not long enough. As a result, the clamping force exerted by the clamping bush on the wire cable will be considerably reduced.
This entails that the length of the clamping sleeve will have to be considerably greater than is necessary for a good clamping of the wire cable. The usable length of the brush element will hereby be reduced.
If the clamping bush is not fixed to the brush disk by the use of welding, there is nevertheless the risk that a less intimate clamping of the wires in the clamping bush is obtained due to the presence of the layer of plastic.
As a result, the wires of the wire cable can be pulled out of the clamping bush when a considerable force is exerted on the wires, as is the case with the use of such a brush.
The invention now has for its object to obviate these drawbacks and to that end provides for use of a cut piece of wire cable which has the desired total length and is free of plastic over at least the length of the clamping bush, wherein a further part of the piece of wire cable is provided with a plastic coating by dipping the wire cable piece over the desired length in a bath with liquid plastic.
The end of the clamping bush can thus substantially coincide with the end of the piece of wire cable so that the latter also contributes to the strength of the assembly.
Due to the length of the wire cable piece being plastic-coated, a very fixed connection between the wire cable and the clamping bush is obtained.
If it is desired to fix the clamping bush to the brush sleeve by welding, it can be provided, according to a further elaboration of the invention, that the piece of wire cable is free of plastic coating over an additional length outside the clamping bush.
This prevents burning or melting of the plastic coating when the clamping bush is fixed to the brush disk by welding.
In practice, the additional length of the wire cable section, which length is therefore also free of plastic coating, will be between 15 and 25 mm and in particular substantially 20 mm.
To obtain a very fixed connection between it. piece of wire cable and the plastic coating can be provided that before the wire cable is immersed in the plastic, the wire cable is immersed in a bath with adhesive.
For example, "Vyprime" may be used as the adhesive.
Depending on the wire cable used, before immersing the piece of wire cable in the adhesive, the piece can still be immersed in a degreasing agent such as, for example, "Protefan".
This allows an even better connection between the adhesive, the plastic coating and the wire cable.
As plastic, particular use will be made of polyethylene, polypropylene and similar plastics.
There the plastic of the. coating will end up in the environment when the brush is used, a coating can in particular be made from a biodegradable material, such as "Bio-Plast".
It is also to be noted on US 2003/0172484 A1, in which an assembly of wire cable with the clamping bush mounted on it is first washed to remove grease or oil, then heated in an oven to about 105 ° C, completely immersed in liquid plastic and finally heated again to about 105 ° C for the curing of the plastic.
After this treatment, a plastic sleeve is fitted over the part of the steel wire protruding outside the clamping bush, which bushing has been made sufficiently flexible to allow it to be slid over the wire cable.
It is clear that this is a particularly cumbersome and therefore costly and energy-intensive operation. Moreover, only a limited connection will be obtained between the last fitted, external bushing and the first wire cable immersed in plastic. Because plastic is present on the clamping bush, the clamping bush cannot be welded.
The invention will now be further elucidated with reference to an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing.
The drawing shows a side view of a brush element according to the invention, consisting of a piece of wire cable 1, which is provided with a plastic coating 2 over the length L.
The length of wire cable 1 is substantially equal to the length of the bushing 3 over the length B, and over the additional length X free of plastic coating 2. The bushing 3 is clamped onto the wire cable 1 due to deformation.
In this case, the sleeve 3 can be welded to the brush disc without the risk of melting or burning of the plastic coating 2 being present.
Depending on the manner of attachment of the bushing 3 to a brush disc (not shown), the free end of the bushing 3 and the wire cable 1 can be cut at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the wire cable 1 or at an acute angle.
Optionally, the sleeve 3 can be designed such that it can be connected to the brush disk by means of one or more bolts. The brush elements can then each be replaced separately.
As indicated above, before the plastic coating is applied, the piece of wire cable can first be immersed in a degreasing agent and then in an adhesive agent. After drying, the wire cable can be immersed in a liquid plastic bath.
It will be clear that only a single possible embodiment of a brush element according to the invention is shown in the drawing and described above and that many modifications can be made without departing from the inventive concept, such as those in the claims is indicated.
