Pre-compressed sealing tapes made of an open-cell flexible foam are usually used to seal joints. Starting from a supply roll of the type described above, the invention achieves the stated object in that the cover layer extends at least in the longitudinal direction of the sealing strip extending, tensile strength strands between which passage openings are provided for the flexible foam.
The use of a cover layer extending in the longitudinal direction of the sealing strip, arranged at a mutual distance, tensile strains brings about a film with the effect that the open cell foam can pass through the openings between these strands, so that the dense system of the sealing strip on an uneven Joint edge is determined not by the deformation resistance of the cover layer, but by the deformation resistance of the open-cell soft foam whose surface can follow even smaller local irregularities of a joint edge even at relatively low contact pressure. For the solution of the task, unconnected, parallel strands are sufficient as a cover layer. However, such strands are not easy to handle. In contrast to a cover layer made of a film, the grid or mesh only covers the surface of the flexible foam projected onto the grid or net surface to a small extent, preferably at most half. This means that the soft foam can pass through the openings of the grid or mesh meshes in a sufficient for the tight application of a joint edge extent. Although, within the supply roll, the soft foam of the one turn through the grid or mesh is pressed against the self-adhesive layer of the adjacent turn, the self-adhesive layer surprisingly readily loosens the soft foam of the adjacent turn of the seal tape when unwinding the seal tape from the supply roll, because obviously the soft foam is retained by the grid opposite the self-adhesive layer. If a small proportion of the self-adhesive layer sticks in a surface layer of the flexible foam, this does not matter. On the contrary, this circumstance can support the permanent application of the flexible foam to the joint flank through the grid or net.
The material used for the grids or nets may vary. Particularly good design conditions, however, arise when using grids or nets with strands of glass fibers, which bring advantages in terms of tensile strength and aging resistance. The shape of the grid or nets is not decisive if only sufficient tensile strength, in particular in the longitudinal direction of the sealing strip and a corresponding mesh width, is ensured. Thus, mesh or nets in the form of woven, knitted or laid can be used as cover layer. However, it is necessary to ensure that the cover layer forming grid or mesh can not move within the supply roll against the soft foam of the sealing strip, because otherwise the dimensional stability of the supply roll and thus the precompression of the sealing strip would no longer be guaranteed. For this purpose, the mesh or mesh of the cover layer may be bonded to the flexible foam of the sealing tape by providing the mesh or mesh with an adhesive layer. But it is also a shear-resistant connection between the grid or mesh and the flexible foam by an impregnating agent of the flexible foam possible if this impregnating agent shows sufficient adhesive effect, as is the case with impregnating agents based on acrylate and / or methacrylate.
