The invention relates to a device for driving a handrail of a passenger conveyor with an endless drive element which is driven by a motor.
Such a device is known for example from DE 11 2006 004 175 T5.
In such and other generic devices, in particular, when the drive of the handrail is not positive fit, but frictionally engaged, the problem that the drive element is sufficiently firmly pressed against the handrail, so no or the smallest possible slip between the drive element and the handrail occurs.
Another problem with such devices is the noise generated by the device, which occurs in both positive and non-positive drive systems.
The invention is based on the object to eliminate these problems as much as possible.
This object is achieved in a device of the type mentioned above in that on the opposite side of the handrail support rollers are arranged and that the drive element is supported by a belt on the support rollers.
The belt performs two tasks in the present invention. The belt spans the distance between the support rollers so that the force from the support rollers acts evenly distributed on the handrail. Furthermore, the belt, which runs freely between the handrail and the support rollers and therefore does not have to transmit tensile forces, can be made of a material which has good damping properties and thereby can dampen rolling noise that would occur when the

This is particularly advantageous if the Äntriebselement is a chain, in particular a roller chain. Chains, particularly roller chains, are preferred in the invention for the reason that they can transmit high forces and are relatively insusceptible to wear.
In the case of the invention, it is further preferred if the drive element has drivers which engage on the handrail. These drivers are preferably elements that cause the best possible power transmission to the handrail, especially in force or frictionally operating systems. This can be done on the one hand by the shaping or on the other hand by an appropriate choice of the material. Of course, both measures can be combined.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, an improvement of the non-positive connection by means of molding can take place in that the drivers have a substantially V-shaped widening recess into which a web arranged on the handrail engages, preferably with a substantially V-shaped cross section.

The device according to the invention is a drive unit which can be arranged at any point of a passenger transport device, for example a horizontal and / or straight moving walkway or an escalator. It can be seen that with the device according to the invention, a handrail 1 can also be driven in the upper area of a balustrade 2, so that no additional space is required under the run of the handrail running back in the lower area of the balustrade. The handrail 1 has in the illustrated embodiment a substantially C-shaped cross-section, wherein in the inner central region of the handrail 1, a web 3 is arranged. This web 3 may theoretically have teeth for a positive engagement of a drive element 4, but in the present invention is preferably continuous and is therefore driven by the drive element 4 only force or frictional.

Since the power transmission in the illustrated embodiment is force or frictional, it is important that the drive element 4 is pressed with sufficient force against the web 3 on the handrail 1. The belt 9 runs around two deflection rollers 12, 13 before and after the holder 8 or the support rollers 7 and about a tension roller 14, which is arranged below the holder 8.
In order to adjust the contact force of the support rollers 7 via the belt 9 on the drive element 4, engage on the bracket 8 adjusting screws 15, 16, which are screwed by clamping blocks 17, 18 to a frame 19.
